Yes, I do. Typically only in the first 10 minutes or so after powering on, though.

Last week I upgraded my satelite from 3100 to 6100 as well. Everything so far has gone very well. I have a comment and a question that almost all of you can answer.

Comment- Although I bought the 6100 I was not impressed with Expressvu packaging for programs and I sent them an email in regards to that. What I mean is that I have the digital advantage package. I was surprised when I saw NO "hi-definition digital advantage package" which adding things up should be $3.00 more expensive than the "regular digital advantage". Or why the hi-def package is not one of the 5, 6, 7 packs. Anyway I shall wait and see what expressvu replies with.

Question - I installed the new dish and the new LNBs and found the nimiq1 (SAT 91) with excellent strength. On most of the transponders I get 94% and up and some are sitting at 99%. However, the best I am able to get for nimiq2 (SAT 82) is around 82% for some transponders. I called Expressvu and they told me that is good enough "sir". Here are two questions:

1 - Does everyone experiences the same thing. That is the SAT 82 in general runs at lower signal strength.

2 - I don't believe I can do anything to improve the signal as the Nimiq1 already sitting at 99%. Any movement in the dish will cause the Nimiq1 settings to be messed up? Am I right or there is something I can do.

OR as the expressvu said "That is good enough sir".

Get a bigger dish.

Same problem here and the biggest pain is SAT82 suffers badly from rain fade. Everytime it rains, whether it is light or hard, I loose all the HD channels.

That's wierd, I've never had that problem. I think I get about a 77% signal on 82, never had a problem in the rain. If I did, I'd be in trouble. I'm in Vancouver.

Maybe now that Nimiq 1 and 3 are both beaming down a strong signal, you can point slightly more towards Nimiq 2 (82) to strengthen that signal, and ease up on Nimiq 1/3 (91) which should be fairly strong anyways?? Or am I out to lunch?

I get about the same signal as you on 82 but as soon as it starts to rain, HD is out. Wierd??

I lost all but one of the channels on 82 during a big 15 minute downpour we had last weekend. Once the rain lessened to very heavy, they cut in and out for about an hour. I haven't noticed any other problems before or since that one downpour.

I have noticed that during heavy rain, the signals from 82 drop faster than the signals from 91. This is a really naive and probably wrong guess, but maybe it's because 82 is further east and the signals have more signal blocking moisture to travel through???

If the weather is good this weekend, I'm going to check that my mast is plumb and that the skew is correct. I'm also going to seal the outside cable connections, as I have read that moisture can leak in and cause havoc.

Well last night in Winnipeg we had a pretty wild electrical storm and I lost all signal from both 91 & 82, both were flat lined most of the time and then as the storm moved you would start to see the signal strength creep back up (then back down as the storm wrapped around). I found that 91 would come back up much faster then 82. Now during these big storms that we are use to on the praries I've found it to be normal to lose your signal (I use to be on *C as well and the same thing occured).
Although in heavy or light rain I never lose my signal from either 82 or 91 (maybe the odd pixelization on an HD channel but nothing horrible), it's only in the heavy electrical storms that I find I lose signal.

Last week we even had a big wind storm with 80+km/h winds and heavy rain and I never lost signal in that although I thought the dish was going to be ripped off my roof as the wind was blowing directly onto the back of the dish.

Visor: Is anybody experiencing the "jumpy picture" bug on the 6100's?
TelusMobilityGuy: Yes, I do. Typically only in the first 10 minutes or so after powering on, though.

Anybody else have similar results (or worse?)

Actually the reason is because 91 has more power. If you check your signal strength, you will see that 91 beats 82 by at least 15-20% in signal strength. Hopefully Bell will be able to increase 82 like they did 91 earlier this year.

Yes, I see the jumpy picture (dropped frames) and screen shake. Have even tried a replacement - it did the same so I sent it back. (Also see it on my 3100.)

The dropped frames happens all of the time. It drives me nuts! It made watching the World Cup of Hocky in HD particularly frustrating.

Don't want to complain about it too much in this thread as I have complained sufficiently in some other threads:

http://digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14912

and

http://digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13632

I would just like to know if anyone thinks this problem will eventually be fixed by a SW update or if it's a HW limitation?

I have seen a image freeze now and then but never shaking or anything more serious on my 3100 or 6100.

is changing channels via the up/down button, not the guide, faster with the 6100?

yes...very much so. i haven't noticed the problem at all, but i can't speak for everyone.

what i find really annoying is the guide itself. i leave my 6100 on 24x7 yet every 2 days or whatever, when i press the guide button, it has to download the updated guide...of course this happens with my 3100 too so i digress.

Spoke to a Bev techie today-signal from my 6100 doesnt get through to my vcr although the vcr goes through the motions, but tape is blank when rewound. Bev says I have to leave 6100 turned on for recording later events until a software upgrade is available. I asked if this pertained to all 6100s and she said " yes, and some of the pvrs have the same problem".

As I havent seen anything in this thread before, has anyone else had the same experience?

i think you have your VCR connected incorrectly...if your VCR is going through the motions, that means the receiver is sending the IR commands to your VCR and it is being received by your VCR...if your tapes are blank, you don't have your VCR on the proper channel/input...so it is simply recording "dead air".

Using 6000 with component and S-video to HDTV. It is a real
hassle having to change the tv input from SD to HD all the time.
Tryed using only component but regular channels are worse in HD
mode. Do the new 6100 auto change this now to the tv ? Anybody using only component and getting a clear picture on both feeds ? Thanks

Is anybody experiencing the "jumpy picture" bug on the 6100's? Many 3100 owners (including myself) experience this and I would not think of droping $400 for a box that still has this bug.

Worse, I've had mine for 7 weeks now and it locks up more and more when using the remote. The picture suddenly shrinks to about 20% of the screen size or explodes to overzoom mode through DVI and S Video. It's going back for an exchange.

came home today, turned on my tv and no picture. noticed that my 6100 appeared to be off yet i leave it on all the time. not sure what happened, but i had to actually unplug it from the power bar for a few minutes and plug it back in.

not sure what happened, but something to take note of i guess. first time this has happened since i bought it.

could have overheated i guess but it's the only thing on my stand, nothing above or below it except a lot of air :)
