: Official: 6120 Thread
rickhd 2004-07-22, 08:48 PM I used the toslink cable on my DVD player, no problems at all. Also tested my audio receiver and it works fine.
Expressvu has no knowledge of the 6100 at all so that does not help at all. They would just step me through the standard stuff, unplug the receiver, do a reset. Or as they said the last time, you have to use the RCA cables for some stations and toslink for other stations. I don't think so. They did honestly try to solve the issue.
On the plus side at least the VCR will record with this receiver. The other receiver would not record at all.
Elvisator 2004-07-22, 09:34 PM Hey Rick
Where exactly is your 6100s Optical Cable plugged into on your Receiver?
What is the Input called on the back of your Receiever, also what is the make/ model/year ?
rickhd 2004-07-23, 06:56 PM My audio receiver is a Panasonic SC-HT400. Purchased in 2003, however the manual dates 2002.
I have two Optical ports. Digital In-Optical 1 (TV) and Optical (2) (DVD). You can use either one and change the settings. I have attempted to use both without any luck. DVD however works fine.
spoonky 2004-07-24, 02:20 AM does anyone no if i get a 6100 reciever and subcribe to hd channels will i be able to view them on my standard tv as super definition until i can aford a new tv.
SatGuru 2004-07-24, 09:09 AM spoonky,
Yes you can choose to output everything to 480P to a standard definition TV as long as your TV has S-video or component inputs.
SatGuru
GregoriusM 2004-07-26, 12:13 AM You mean it can output to 480i, I would assume, since standard TV's cannot accept a progressive input.
Greg :D
Elvisator 2004-07-27, 02:18 AM Yes u can use the 6100 on a regular TV via Composite, S-Video or Component Outputs.
480i,480p,720p,1080i
GregoriusM 2004-07-27, 02:29 AM Yes, you can have those formats being input to the STB, but the OUPUT to your TV is only going to be 480i because that is ALL a standard TV can recognize out of those 4 resolutions listed.
We're talking a STANDARD TV here, not an SDTV i.e. Standard DIGITAL TV.
jayeffaar 2004-07-27, 11:32 AM True, he's only going to get a standard NTSC signal, but considering the HD channels get a lot more bandwidth than the regular channels, his picture is going to look a lot better than on the SD channels. Right now, on my 6000, if I use the s-video output only, NBC HD looks a lot sharper than the regular NBC feed.
GregoriusM 2004-07-27, 01:35 PM Good answer! :D
spoonky 2004-07-27, 08:37 PM thanks for all of you that replied i appretate it.you answered my question expertly not like the answer i got from express vu on there site

Mark Oliver 2004-07-29, 02:25 AM A couple important questions.
1) Does it come with a DVI cable?
2) If you use a DVi to HDMI cable will the sound still be able to output through the optical port (if it has one). I don't want to hook up a HDMI cable and then no sound comes out of other ports.
SatGuru 2004-07-29, 08:26 AM Mark Oliver,
1) Does not come with a DVI cable, comes with the same nice component cable the 6000 came with.
2) In regards to HDMI it will transmit video only and audio will still be transmitted via toslink.

brintdw 2004-07-29, 09:01 AM Anybody else notice that the audio level coming from the 6100 is low. I have a 400 watt audio system (no TOSlink) and I pretty much have this cranked to max to get 'loud' volume out of this system. Is there some way to boost it?
dm_4u 2004-07-29, 09:21 AM As a matter of fact...yes...
Not that bad...but a big difference from my 3100 when i switch back and forth.
Mark Oliver 2004-07-29, 11:05 AM Anyone have a picture of the menu's or OS as it were?

That is what my 3100 looks like. Has it not changed at all for the new 6120?
SatGuru 2004-07-30, 12:31 PM Mark Oliver,
Yes, the backgroud is now pink with purple poke-a-dots and the text is lime green. :)
