Does the 6100 require two lines, 1 for SD and 1 for HD, much like the 9200? I have the 9200 and am looking to add a 6200 and 5200. Would like to do this without adding a second dish.

Thanks.

I am doing the same research. I noticed in a picture I found that there is only 1 satellite coax input on the back. So I assume you need to run 1 wire from your SW44 switch.

I am amazed that none of these 6100 owners has answered you in 13 days!!!

6100 requires one line - assuming because you have the 9200 that you also have the sw44 multiswitch (either in your house or on the dish) one of those outputs can connect to the 6100. If you also want a 5200 then it may be easier for a second dish with another SW44

I have a 6100, software: e562. I have a few questions.. I find it kind of annoying that the guide doesn't display in 16:9 aspect ratio. I have looked for a setting, but cannot find anything anywhere.. In system setup you can change the aspect ratio, but that onlt seems to effect the actual shows, and not the guide.. Does anyone know if there is away to make the guide 16:9?

My second question is with the HD connections. My Sony Grand Wega only has HDMI and component inputs. Would it be worth getting a DVI to HCDI converter and using the DVI output on the receiver over the components??

I have actually been thinking about upgrade to the dual tuner HD PVR which has the HDMI outputs, but it's pretty expensive.

I don't think you can change the guide aspect ratio other than using the stretch modes for SD. I would think that purchasing a DVI to HDMI cable is better than the converter as you eliminate an additional connection which may become problematic. I also prefer the DVI output to component as I find the component a bit softer. You will also need a Toslink or coax cable (or the two wire analog cable) for the audio as DVI does not support audio.

I don't know your financial situation but I would recommend getting the HD PVR. It has better features and it will change the way you watch TV. Plus you can watch a recording while taping 2 new ones simultaneously, all in Hi-def. It has many different guide possibilities also. I absolutely love mine.

And if you decide to sell your 6100 I'd be interested (as a second receiver) - no I don't have sneaky motives, just a suggestion since I'm looking for a used 6100.

No it will not fix the problem... but call and complain about it. Mine comes and goes, some channels are worse than others.

Does the 9200 have the same freezing problem as the 6200?

Nope. It has the odd minor issue or two but its a pretty solid receiver.

It was installed on Monday, and I was at work. I came in and everything was set-up. I was told having the HDTV receiver would improve the quality of the standard definition channels - I haven't seen this yet. I have to stretch all the images because they black bars appear on the sides. The guide is like this as well. I honestly don't notice any difference with the HD channels, so something must be wrong.

It's connected with a component cable, I've set the ratio on the TV to 16:9 and likewise with the BEV satellite settings. I'm using the samsung slimfit, is there something I'm missing out here?

1. SD channels are typically no better on an HD STB, don't know where you heard that it would be.

2. Have you adjusted the output of the STB to 1080i?

Others may be able to help you more.

3. See the Digital Home FAQs (under help).

- What's on in HD (not all programmes on HD channels are true HD).
- Black Bars (normal for upconverted 4:3 on an HD channel)
- What you need to do to your new HDTV (proper setup may help with PQ)
- Why does my HDTV have poor SD PQ.
- Etc.

My 6100 has done a few differant things this week.......the info screen pops up without warning.......usually about five or six times during the first five to ten minutes of operation. At first thought it might be someone in the neighbourhood with new Evu equipment using their remote but it only happens with the info screen........no other channel changes etc that you would associate with another remote in the area. Just curious if anyone else has seen this happen?

Hi All,

before i go the route of asking Viewsonic (my HD TV company) why the HDMI audio is not working, i thought i'd ask you if there is a setup in the 6100 receiver to allow this? Bell has been useless.

I just bought a DVI to HDMI cable to start using my HD capabilities to the fullest (i was using composite before). I'm pretty sure HDMI cables support audio and video. the video is working great, but after 4 hours of essentially trying everything, i cannot get the audio to work. I've called a few friends that have this current setup and they told be that there should be an RCA out on the receiver (which there is) and an DVI/HDMI audio in on the TV (which there is not). Ideally i'm hoping someone with this receiver and the Costco special Viewsonic N3752W reads this and can fill me in how to do this. i have the audio working now through my 5.1 audio system, but i'd like to have the audio working on both the TV and the 5.1 system.

Thanks,
DJ

Hello Djay75 and WELCOME to the DHC Forums!

If you're using a DVI to HDMI cable, then you won't get audio because DVI does not carry the audio signal.

You will have to use the stereo RCA outputs from the STB to the corresponding input on your HDTV.

Read the Digital Home FAQs re:

1) Cables & Connections
2) DVI/HDMI Information

haha...you answered my questions. thaks for the quick response! well it looks like the DVI to HDMI cable i spent $25 is essentiallu useless. Component is practically just as good. Live and learn. So it is my TV then. I have HDMI in but no HDMI RCA audio in support. I guess it's expecting the receiver to be HDMI (audio and video) versus the DVI to HDMI connection...There probably is a way to get the sound (aside from going back to component). I just have to figure that one out.
Cheers!

Dave

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that particular Viewsonic has a stereo miniplug input for the corresponding HDMI input. You will need to run the stereo RCA outputs to the stereo miniplug and then plug it in to the stereo miniplug input for the corresponding HDMI.
But using Component and the stereo RCA outputs is fine.

It does claim to have this (look at the Digital):

INPUT PC RGB analog (75 ohms, 0.7 Vp-p)
TV TV/cable, composite (RCA), component YPbPr/YCbCr, S-video
Audio 3.5mm mini stereo audio in/out and RCA (left/right) audio in
RGB Frequency Fh: 30~64kHz, Fv: 60~75Hz
Sync H/V separated (TTL)
Digital HDMI (with HDCP and audio support)
Tuner ATSC/NTSC

however there is no RCA in on the TV for the DVI or HDMI. It only has a component and an AV/S in. I've tried going out from the receiver into both RCA ins. none of them worked.

Yes, the HDMI input supports audio, but as I stated previously DVI does not so you won't get audio to the HDMI input using a DVI to HDMI cable.

I'm sure the stereo miniplug input is for the corresponding HDMI input, so I would advise using that. Check your manual thoroughly. I know I advised someone else to set it up this way, but I can't find the post.

thanks, I'll try the stereo miniplugs tonight. this could be a stupid question but, i'd probably have to buy these stereo miniplug cables right? they wouldn't come with anything? these cables plug right into the receiver on the RCA outs?

Sorry...new to all of this

No problem, that's what we're here for. WELCOME to the DHC Forums.

All you'll need is a stereo miniplug adaptor. They should cost no more than $5 at The Source or other stores of the kind.

You'll ust have to run your normal stereo RCA cables from the STB to the adaptor, and then plug the adaptor to the HDTV.

When you're done, post back here and give back as you have received. You'll find that others are just as eager to get the practical advice you can contribute. Also, take some time to update your User CP with your location as it often helps us to help you.

Once again, WELCOME to the DHC Forums.

one more question Cyclism, the receiver has a digital audio output plug, is that what i connect to the TV? one cable going from there to the mini plug in on the Viewsonic?
thanks again...
