johnny_marin 2006-03-08, 10:42 AM This is a known issue for the latest firware, but apparently a factory default, followed by a front panel reset resolves the issue. but i have also heard this appears to be a temporary solution (any 1 with the issue resolved, pls correct me if thats not the case).
What do you mean by factory default? Do I have to call BEV so that they have to download a firmware fix followed by a front panel reset?
Thanks, John
captainthe 2006-03-09, 04:57 PM Anyone know of any dealers in Edmonton? I need hardware and soft.

Reave 2006-03-10, 05:34 PM 6100 with firmware E559.
Trouble started around 2-3 weeks ago.
HD channels freezes for 2-3 seconds every 5-10 minutes?
Tried unplugging the power cord to reset the unit but still the same.
What to do next?
Note: No problem with SD channels.
I am having this problem as well. Its very annoying. Happened last night during the Montreal/Boston Hockey game.
Every 2-3 minutes .. just stills on a image and the sound continues. Then jumps ahead to real time.

factory default is accessed thru the menu (6->1->6), select yes + a front panel reset. now before u do this make sure u make a note of any of your customized settings, since selecting factory defaults will remove them
johnny_marin 2006-03-13, 08:56 AM Did the factory default reset and the zoom function works properly now. Thanks for the info.
The picture freezing for a second or two on HD is a BEV problem as I had the same thing happen last week on a TSN HD hockey game. The next night there was a different game and no freezing. I'm wondering if BEV is compressing the signal too much causing this to happen.

Battscrew 2006-03-13, 12:23 PM I have been getting the 1/2 sec freeze up multiple times over the last week - did the power button reset and still get freezes.
aw124 2006-03-14, 12:06 AM While watching 24 tonight, the picture freezes 1-2 seconds again.
This is getting to be a pain in the *ss
Note: I'm using component with my 6100 and the HDMI/DVI with my LG dvd player.
BTW, I can not zoom in SD but I can not see myself using this feature.

Anynews on a fix?
I purchased a 6100 on the 23 of Feb.Was getting one second freezes on 839 and 840 ocationally. The reciever froze up on me a few times and had to reset it to restore it.Called bell and they sent me a new reciever. The new reciever was getting more frequent freezing. Also this reciver when shut off for a few hours or over night would not turn on.Would hve to hit the power botton 7 or 8 times or stand 2 or 3 feet from reciever to turn on.When it did come on it would search for sat signal and then download the guide.I'm on a fourth reciever and I'm still having the same problem only now it's worse and on more HD channels.
I have a 6000 upstairs which works fine.I switched location of the 2 reciever. The 6100 is still having the same problem upstairs and the 6000 is fine downstairs.
Called bell and they offered to send me another reciever.I told them I don't want another reciever but to figure out what the problem is as I don't feel that it is the reciever.
Thier going to have an installer come out on Sunday to check the lines.
vidar 2006-03-25, 11:23 AM Ok, just got the 6120 receiver last week, got my new HD tv this week.
I used the Component cables that were included (why they hell don't they offer the DVI cable...twits).
Anyways, when I'm flipping through the channels, it says HD : Normal SD : Normal on the screen.
I tried the sample HD channels (800-820) and it still says "HD : Normal" but the SD : Normal is highlighted. It never highlights the HD : Normal one.
So, I messed in the settings a bit, and set it to 1080i (I think that's the number). Well, HD is still fine (not highlighted) but the regular channels went back to 4:3 ratio instead of stretching to widescreen like before when it was on 480....
If any of this makes sense....I'm looking to find out why the HD is never highlighted and how to keep it at 1080i and get the regular channels to fill the widescreen tv....

I think there is buttons on the right side of the remote to change to HD Normal from SD normal. There is also full, and zoomed setting for each HD and SD.
I don't remember which buttons as I now use a Harmony 880 remote.
Try some buttons ( think they are one above and below ) on the right top side of the remote.
Hope my bit of help helps you figure it out.
Brian
Edmonton101 2006-03-25, 11:33 AM Oh, I think I changed every channel to HD Normal as I don't care that much about the setting on regular channels as I think when I tried changing the 799 and under channels to SD when I went back to the HD channels they were then set in SD and could not have a variety of both. Maybe someone will tell me why this is and how to get around it.
WestCDA 2006-03-25, 12:13 PM THe HD and SD settings you see on the top of the screen are the settings that apply to the respective outputs on the receiver. If you change the setting for SD but are only using the HD output, there will be no change on what you are viewing.
The settings are controlled by the Page Up and Page Down keys at the top right of the the remote. Whe you press Page UP, the receiver will cycle through any available HD settings. Page Down for available SD settings.
If you are on a regular SD channel (4:3) and viewing via the SD outputs, then there is nothing to toggle for the SD output - there is only one option (NORMAL). If you are view HD content on an SD output, then you will have various SD format options available to get the picture format you want.
Same thing applies if you have an HD display connected - it depends what the source is for what HD display modes are available, but changing the SD setting won't do anything for you.
vidar 2006-03-25, 03:11 PM so, if I'm using component outputs, is that considered HD output?

Yes.
The page up button scrolls through the various settings on a HD TV. The remote has a memory of your last setting when going from a HD channel to a SD channel and back up to HD. The page down button seems to be only for SD TVs and you can press it all day on a 16x9 HD TV and nothing will happen. I hope this explains peoples confusion.
I change my settings frequently as some programs on a HD channel are in 4x3 and I don't like looking at lines on my screen and I've heard it can cause burn in.When I watch sports on a SD channel I also play with the settings.
FuzzyQball 2006-03-29, 02:08 PM Burn in is an issue with rear projection tube tv's. I have also heard some mention of plasma, but LCD,DLP, and rear projection LCD do not have this problem. Personaly I leave it so as not to distort the picture and make people fatter thatn they should be.
White Water 2006-07-18, 08:17 PM MY RANT: Save your money don’t buy or rent a 6100 if you want to watch HDTV! This unit works great for SD but the picture freezes when watching HD, Bell ExpressVU will not admit to the problem and will tell you that you are the only one with this problem and the trouble is with your installation and it will cost you to fix it. I have two other receivers working on the same dish and they work fine, all receivers have a signal as high as 100% on some transponders.
I have an HDTV and can’t watch HDTV because the 6100 unit is a piece of junk!
Save your money if you want to watch HDTV maybe the 9200 is better, I don’t know, but look to Cable or StarChoice, Bell ExpressVU will not support their product and will pretend that everything is fine when you call in and you are the problem.

WestCDA 2006-07-18, 09:19 PM Sorry to hear you're having trouble, but I've had a 6100 for about 8 months and have never had a problem with freezing on the HD channels.
I've got no transponders with signal strength at 100% (very few over 90), and I'm even using pre-existing RG58 cable from the SW44 to the 6100. I could run RG6 if necessary, but no problems so far.
Having said that, I do much prefer the 9200 guide and feature set to the 6100. As for Bell's customer service, no arguments from me on that one ...

WestCDA,
What firmware and revision number is your 6100? We are trying to see if there is a firmware co-orrelation with the stuttering problem. I am running E559 and the 6100's revision number is DNASP: 02 REV2C5. You can get this information on the system information screens. Also, the firmware thread shows that E560 is in the stream but my unit has not downloaded it. Does anyone have this version loaded and is the stuttering problem eliminated?
Thanks, John
WestCDA 2006-07-19, 01:18 PM Same - E559, DYNASP 02 REV2C5.
