: Official: 6120 Thread
Hooked up my 6100 last night and everything works like a charm. The one thing I couldn't figure out was how to get the receiver into SD mode. The remote has a HD/SD button but it does not appear to work. Called Expressvu and spent an hour on the phone to find out they didn't know either. Anybody have any experience in this area yet. When you push the info button, on the screen appears the HD and the SD logos, with the receiver on the HD logo along with the aspect ratio that you have chosen. The SD logo is unchecked with aspect ratio of normal.
You can do so by pressing Pg Up for HD and Pg Down for SD Modes. Hope this helps
Does it still have the slot for a card behind a door on the front panel?
Yes, Model 6120 does have it behind the flip down panel on left front of the receiver
Cosmic 2005-10-20, 05:49 PM I am a new member and not allowed to start a thread. That in itself is a problem. Anyway, my coax out to tv shows guide, and title info and has sound but black screen with no video. I had this problem once befre but it fixed itself on an update. How do you force a software download to reset it? I tried paging ahead in the guide but it just updated the guide.
Thanks

What channel is your receiver tuned to? I had this exact problem because I was tuned to channel 0 (probably after a S/W update?) and all I got was the black screen. Changed channels and everything was fine. If you are still having problems you can go into the system setup menu and do a switch reset which will test your LNBs and sometimes that helps as well to get rid of the glitch.

Interceptor 2005-10-27, 06:27 AM Here's my three questions. I have an old 13" TV hooked up in my computer room. It only has coax in, so I run it off my VCR with the VCR hooked up to my 6100 by composite.
1. I want to upgrade to a 14" 480i TV and use a component cable to my 6100. Would this give me the best picture or would S-Video or composite work just as well?
2. I have another problem with the component connection as the audio is already devoted to my HD TV connected by DVI. Can I split the red white audio connections and run them to both TVs and where can I find such splitters?
3. Is there any problem with running both component and DVI out of my 6100 receiver at the same time?
Battscrew 2005-10-27, 08:05 AM To answer
1. use Svideo if you use component then you would continually have to switch yu outpur resolution from 1080i to 480i
2 any electronic store - I got mine at the source
3 no problem.
Interceptor 2005-10-27, 10:58 AM Thanks for your reply Battscrew, it's helpfull, but what would happen if I used component and didn't switch the 6100 to 480i? Would there just be no picture or could I cause damage to the TV or is the TV or receiver smart enough to compensate. I understand that component is better then S Video. Just checked and my 6100 only offers 1080i, 720p and 480p.
johnny_marin 2005-10-27, 01:16 PM If you have the receiver set up for and HD resolution such as 720p or 1080i I think it outputs the same resolution over component and DVI. I don't think you can separate the two outputs by resolution (anyone else know for sure?). So you still might not see a picture on your SD set unless you set your resolution in the receiver to 480p BEFORE on your HD set.
Regarding your audio - does your HDTV have an optical audio input? If so, you can hook the optical out of the 6100 to your HDTV and the RCA analog output to your SD set. That way you don't need an additional splitter. Also there are two sets of analog audio outputs on the 6100 and you should be able to use both at the same time and run to your two sets.

Interceptor 2005-10-27, 08:07 PM Thanks Johnny, my HDTV doesn't have an optical input. My other analogue audio outputs are connected to my VCR. My 6100 toslink is hooked up to my stereo, so I guess I can just hook up the other audio to the proposed 14"TV, if the component works.

Unless the 14 is HDTV ready you would get no picture, a friend had a small LCD that would only accept 480i even if it was component.
You could always use a composite splitter set similar to the audio, In our trailer I have the audio/video composite split to the inside tv and for an outside one if I want.
j0dest3r 2005-10-30, 12:48 AM Yes hopefully software updates will work out the bugs.
I have attempted to do a reset as you mentioned without any luck at all. Still the same audio issue. My audio receiver is in Auto mode and it works fine in digital mode with my DVD. I have more than one optical port on the receiver and swtiching them around made no difference. I have as I mentioned which led me to damaging the optical connection several different cables. Still no audio when I set it to Dolby Digital. I have unplugged the unit for several hours, did a factory reset. Not much left to do except replace the unit. Although as you mentioned that may not solve the issue.
Did you ever fix your audio problem? I just watched CSI and it said HD+5.1. The HD looks great but there is no 5.1 :-( 5.1 used to work with my old SDTV Star Choice reciever. I checked the manual did searches on this forum, no luck. It works fine with my DVD player ? I may try PPV w/ 5.1 to see if I can get it to work. Perhaps BEV doesn't support 5.1 on the CBS feed??? I'm not sure how that all works.
j0dest3r 2005-10-30, 01:54 AM I just switched to a different channel with a movie on it and my DD light on the receiver came on but still no dialogue through the center channel. :-(
I may have to bite the bullet and try PPV to see if it works.
ahilden 2005-11-04, 11:44 AM I loved this reciever, the remote is way better then the rogers remote and UHF is a useful feature. The Guide on Bell is also much better. But rogers has great deals to switch to them so I did and got the free 8300HD PVR.
Overall it was the right decision. Bell took 3 months to credit me charges that they accidently added to my account so I had to do something as each tie I had to wait about 70 mins on the phone to talk to someone.
Ampler 2005-11-06, 07:08 PM I just hooked up my new 6100 this weekend. I love it except for the issue with the guide. I get the "Info not available" crap 2 hours into the future on the guide and it's driving me crazy. I've tried all the recommended tricks to force the guide to download - none of which worked. I'de appreciate it if anyone could provide a solution to this.

This is a bug with the latest firmware. The guide is downloaded but it does not display properly. I find that if you advance the guide quickly by several hours until data shows up then go back in time the data will be there. You may have to go back and forth a few times. It is a real pain in the A$$. Hopefully Bell will fix this in the next firmware upgrade.

Thanks. That works. I see now that most people are getting it wrong. You don't have to force the guide to download anything - it's already in the guide's memory, but isn't getting displayed for some blocks.
FuzzyQball 2005-11-11, 12:09 PM I am fairly new to BEV. I switched from Rogers due to lack of bandwidth issues. Anyway, one thing that annoys me about the guide, is that shows end a few minutes before the half hour mark. If I go to the next show I want to watch on a different channel, it refuses to switch and and takes me to timer setup. I can trick it to go there, but it would be simpler to let you select the show if there was 5 or less minutes to go before the show starts. Rogers would just let me go there with a small warning.
Is there a easy way to make the guide do this?

I hear ya. It's much easier on Rogers digital to do this.
What I do when I find a program in the future and I want to turn to that channel right away is just scroll left until it stops, then hit enter.
I just bought one of those "cheap" Daytek DT-3220 at Costco. Right now, I have it hooked up to a 3100 with component connections and it looks pretty good (DVDs look really good by the way). The only thing is that when I watch fast motion (like a hockey game), it pixellates a bit.
I am thinking of upgrading my 3100 to a 6100 with a DVI connection....will this help the pixellation at all or will it make no difference?
FYI, I already have a 9200 downstairs and I can't afford another one.
I will be receiving my hardware this Friday and am little bit afraid of what awaits. I ordered a 6120 and 4120 from Bell and am sure I will have problems with the install. If anybody has a link to a comprehensive installation guide,I would be forever greatfull!
