Ryski, Sounds bad! I only had to return the first one, the second one worked. It took hours to convince them it was defective... they didn't believe me at first and wanted me to take the first one to the Bell store and try it there... Do you believe that??? What a joke. LOL

Good luck with this one.

Okay, round 3 went well until viewing any HD content. During prime time viewing when all of the good HD programs are on, every show I watched in HD seemed quite dark and had large white hazy lines running horizontally across the screen. This didn't happen during commercials nor on non-HD channels. I was fooling around with the set-up trying to fix this issue and found a temporary solution. On the 1080i setting was when I was getting the dark picture with blurry lines, but when I changed to 720, it got better. I don't know why this is and it never happened on the first receiver I had (the second one didn't even work at all). Isn't 1080 the best setting for HD? Thus I am wondering if anyone can help me out here. The frustration contines!

What make and model of TV are you using, and how is the 6100 connected?
This might be helpful if someone has a similar model to compare to.

Is your TV connected to the receiver with component cables or DVI? Is your TV able to use both types, and if so, have you tried both to compare?

cheers,

Ooops, guess it helps to know the full details. The TV is a Hitachi 50VS810 with the 6100 receiver, hooked up with a DVI to HMDI cable. I will try going back to the component cables but didn't have time yesterday. The lines seem to appear along with brighter sections of the picture screen...eg. a shot of a bright window in a dark room would cause hazy white lines across the screen the same width as the window on the TV screen. When there is a shot of a mostly dark area, the lines don't appear. The lines are quite dim and don't have any specific time pattern. If someone on the screen was wearing a white hat, there would be a line the same width as the hat and it would run horizontally across the screen and move with the picture. I hope this makes sense. I'm going to mess around with the different cable tonight but any other insight would be great.

That's helpful, and just an initial hunch without ever having seen your TV is a power supply problem. Is the TV new?

Yes, new enough...got it 4-5 months ago. I'm pretty sure it's the cord. I switched the DVI out and replaced it with component and the problem is fixed. No more white lines or darkness or off-centred SD channels with component cables. Looks like the DVI cord on the 6100 is an inferior way to connect. What a waste of money the cord was. Bell shouldn't make the DVI output an option if your PQ suffers.

Channel 230 is now showing n a new software download for the 6100. A fix for dark screens, search function with the # key and interactive TV plus a dolby digital fix. Available April 19th (tomorrow). I think I'll wait until some of you more daring people try it first and report. :D

I will be trying it as soon as its available............. almost 8:00am on the 19th and i dont see it yet. Im looking forward to the dolby sound as my Panasonic amp is one of those that only works in PCM mode,

I also had PQ problems using hdmi/dvi cable and switched back to component.
I had bars at the sides of screen in HD mode that were identical in size to that shown when viewing SD picture, they were not solid.... probably 98% transparent but you could see them during all HD programs

Maybe they'll also come up with a fix that will let us use the timer facility, so that we don't get black screens with no audio output when the timer function engages.

Will this update change the software version as it's currently displayed (E472) ?

Just checked and my 6100 has upgraded to E555 and I finally have Dolby Digital sound !!! yaahhoooooooo ! :D

Search function using # button now works
Dont really notice any difference in picture brightness (component) but i never
thought i had a problem.
ITV now functions

So far it appears to be a good upgrade that fixes problems as planned

My 6100 upgraded to E555 and the entire menu system responds quicker, but now when I go to Menu - 6 - 1 - 5 for OTA reception I notice a couple of things about digital OTA (no change in analog OTA from what I can tell): first, when adding a DTV channel manually the response of the user interface is quicker but I've now seen several false locks (locks with zero signal strength) when before it would occasionally do a false lock only on channel 2, the one it defaults to when it first opens. Second, when I run a "SCAN DTV" it now takes about four times longer than before to go through channels 2 - 69 but with no noticeable difference in results. I'm hoping there have been improvements but maybe its my own setup that can't make use of them. I'm an optimist after all.

Update seems to have fixed event timer issues (black screen if reciever turned off).
set timer -> turn OFF reciever -> reciever turns on WITH a picture and audio (not a black screen as before)

Just got the new upgrade. Now the HD picture adjustment in the setup doesn't work. I have an LGE R45NZ60 with the picture offcenter to the left by an inch. The 6100 with the older software corrected it.

Do I need to have my reciever plugged into a phone line to get this update or is it an over the air deal?? Thanks..

Brooky, power your receiver off for 30 minutes at some point tonight. If you have "Download without my permission" it will come automatically. Otherwise when you power on it will tell you there's a free software upgrade, and do you want it.

This revision for the timer issues makes me very happy. Am Idol sounded great in 5.1 just now.

The jury is still out as to whether the 'brighter' output on the component feed to my ISF"d Tosh 36x81 is better or a little washed out.

I can't tell if this revision also lessens the darkness feeding out of the S-vid connection to my DVD-recorder. (I've had to set the recorder to 0 IRE to get past the ultra-dark shows (Like Austin City Limits on PBS-HD), so this will take a little experimenting to see what works best.

Any feedback/suggestions on the s-vid to the dvd-recorder would be most welcome.
