Battscrew 2004-11-17, 09:00 PM SWEET!! thanks BAttscrew.... thats awesome to know... i m starting to REALLY like this receiver...one question.. How do you get it back onto SD....?? go to an SD channel and page up??
I just use the Page up(HD mode) button to stretch the picture if I am on an SD channel. I leave my TV on the DVI(or component) input and do not use S-video. Forgot for SD normal stretch etc use page down or the 0 (zero) button
barrycam 2004-11-20, 09:02 PM I've have two 6100s for a couple of weeks now, and after much tweaking from tech at Expressvu, they're up and running fairly smoothly. One nagging issue is audio sync on HD programming--ever so slight sound preceding lip--which I've noticed over the last few days on all the HD channels, but especially on CityTV and M 840. I've spoken to tech about the issue, and they're going to look into it. Theoretically, previous software revisions were supposed to sove this problem. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I have noticed it off and on.
jwkessler 2004-11-21, 11:21 AM The satellite gods must not want me to have HD. After having a nice Hitachi HD monitor for about two years, getting the limited HD programming from my C-Band dish, I finally decided it was time to get access to the US network programming in HD. So I called the fine folks at KUSat and had then ship me a 6120 system.
The dual feed dish installation went reasonable well, but I noticed that the new receiver didn't provide test tones during the alignment process. I also found the standard dual feed dish to be a bit tricky to get lined up, but after some time tweaking I had a reasonable signal on both 82 and 91 degree positions. But the barker channel had no sound.
After a few calls to the folks at KUSat they offered to send me a new receiver. They even covered shipping costs. Good folks. The new box arrived in several days and worked fine. KUSat had even arranged to have my programming preauthorized so the system worked as soon as I plugged everything in. Whoopee - HD heaven!
I did notice a number of the minor issues that others are discussing on this thread. Specifically, brief freezing, occasional pixilation (maybe due to the weaker signal on the HD satellite?) and sound synch problems. These are annoying, but I can live with this.
After a couple of days the unit stopped responding to the remote. The front panel controls worked however and a check of the batteries in the remote showed them to be dead. All four cells were below 1 volt. I thought the original batteries might have been defective so I put in a new set. These also died in a couple of days. Oddly the remote appears to be functioning well in every other respect. So I again called KUSat and they sent me a new remote. Thanks Guys!
A few days later, with the new remote in hand, I hit the power button - and nothing happened. The remote looks OK, but I can't get the pretty blue light on the box to come on. I have power - the box is warm on top like it usually is, but it won't power up and there is no video. So KUSat is once again sending me a new receiver - my third. As I write this I'm still waiting for the replacement.
Has anyone else had this many hardware related problems with the 6100? Or am I doomed to to life with SD programming?
JK
barrycam 2004-11-21, 04:00 PM I have noticed it off and on.
Can we do anything about it beyond informing tech and hoping for the best? Sound out of sync, in my mind, is more disturbing to our viewing pleasure than even quasi downresing--which I think is also happening occasionally.
I was also wondering whether "copy-once" protection is enabled on the HD VU channels?
McAngus 2004-11-28, 01:41 PM I am a tvtech, and I purchased a 6120 a week ago from Future Shop. I have a 4700 and 5100 already, but I needed the new dual LNB receiver. I replaced my current dish and LNB assembly, and, like Black Bear, have had no luck seeing Sat 82. I see 91 with 100% signal strength, but never a peep from 82.
Anyone know what gives?
I've tried swapping LNB's, tried different receivers, shuffled the wiring around, but I never see 82. The odd thing is that if I check to see where 91 is coming in, it's always in the LNB position and the wiring for 82. The SW21 switch reports seeing only 91, and that in the input for 82. Using an LCD monitor on the roof I swung the dish every which way, but 91 comes and goes with the no sign of 82. There are no trees or such across from my south-facing house. Two Bell CSR's along with a tech are baffled.
Altaman 2004-11-28, 03:05 PM I know this sounds like a simple answer, but have you tried reversing the cables?
Alt
McAngus 2004-11-28, 03:11 PM Gawd, yes. I have swapped the LNB output cables themselves, swapped which side of the SW21 each cable goes into, and swapped which receiver sees which set of cables. I have put each receiver on the output of only one LNB as well, in order to eliminate the switch.
chaotic_monk 2004-11-28, 03:19 PM hrm...if you can get 100% on 91 all that you should have to do is skew your dish a bit and 82 should come in fine
another stupid question, but have you have performed the check switch right?
i know during a few of my recabling efforts, i've lost one of the sats because i forgot to do a check switch.
McAngus 2004-11-28, 03:37 PM I suspected the skew adjustment, since 91 was where I expected to see 82, so I did run through that repeatedly. All I saw was the EV91 satellite come and go, so I left the skew setting where that maximum signal was.
You raise a good point though; should I run a "check switch" every time I reskew to refresh the system, as it were?
McAngus 2004-11-28, 03:38 PM And what is a reasonable angle to incrementally reskew at? I did about a half a degree each time.
chaotic_monk 2004-11-28, 03:53 PM you might want to keep performing a check switch if you've been swapping and switching cables
you shouldn't have to keep performing one each time you move the skew angle though, but it doesn't hurt. you certainly don't want to end up with half the transponders.
my suggestion is to look up your city in the installation instructions and see what the recommended skew angle is and start there. try and find that darn 82 sat!
you shouldn't have to try every half a degree, the signal isn't that minute. i would try every 5 degrees or so. first job is just trying to see a signal from 82
keep in mind you might have to adjust the elevation angle too. i think i had to lower mine slightly to find 82
one last stupid question. on your y adapter, you have each lnb on the correct side. if you face the front of the dish, 91 on the right, 82 on the left?
McAngus 2004-11-28, 04:32 PM We have liftoff!
I didn't realize the "check switch" was necessary to alert the receiver to the changes - I thought it would be dynamic. So I do see 82 now. Both are at 80%, though, so I'll have to optimize now.
Thanks, Chaotic Monk!
chaotic_monk 2004-11-28, 04:35 PM just trying to help out
you're very welcome
ergz99 2004-12-01, 02:56 PM I too have the same problem that Gerry301 and fricfrac have. If you power off the reciever after setting a timer, the reciever powers on when the timer starts, but there is no video or sound output from the reciever. If you hit any button, even the Cancel button, the picture and sound appear.
Also, if you leave the reciever powered on, all is fine.
Bev tech support started by arguing that there was something wrong with the VCR. I finally convinced them that it was not because the TV is blank too and it appears as soon as you press a button. They then said to just leave it powered on all the time. Thanks, I could have figured that one out on my own. An answer like "We are aware of the problem and it will likely be fixed in a future upgrade" would make the customer much happier. ;)
Not a huge deal, but obviously a bug. Hope for a fix in a future upgrade.

CharlesK 2004-12-02, 08:56 AM Hi
Just got my 6100 set up and subscribed to the HD package, I'm quite pleased so far.
Is it possible to change the resolution with a shortcut on the remote (instead of menu 6-1-9 and arrow keys)?
I'm still getting used to this but I thought King of Queens looked better in 1080i than 720P last night - even though my set is 720P native.
Maybe the faroudja chip in my Samsung converts better than the 6120 does?
Great forums :)
Snoman 2004-12-02, 09:05 PM Comparing the Faroudja chip to whatever is in those Echoscrap boxes is like comparing a Ferrari to a Tempo.
chmod 2004-12-09, 10:01 AM Any clever person know of a remote shortcut or other means to quickly and easily toggle the output resolution of the 6100?
It is a major pain, in fact a ludicrous oversight of Echostar to force a user to plough multiple layers into the Setup menus to change between 480p, 720p and 1080i.
Can anyone share a shortcut or offer some insight on this?
thanks
patrick
Dockton 2004-12-17, 11:40 AM Yes hopefully software updates will work out the bugs.
I have attempted to do a reset as you mentioned without any luck at all. Still the same audio issue. My audio receiver is in Auto mode and it works fine in digital mode with my DVD. I have more than one optical port on the receiver and swtiching them around made no difference. I have as I mentioned which led me to damaging the optical connection several different cables. Still no audio when I set it to Dolby Digital. I have unplugged the unit for several hours, did a factory reset. Not much left to do except replace the unit. Although as you mentioned that may not solve the issue.
I had the same problem with 6100 Dolby Digital audio. However, after I reset the receiver by pressing down the power button for about 10 seconds, it re-downloaded the software, and it worked. Thanks for the tip about "RESET". :D
markus_maximus 2004-12-20, 10:13 AM Will iTV ever work with the 6100?
