So has anyone seen one of these in person? Or better yet used one? I can't find a review.
Public Mobile seems to be expanding their coverage better than Wind (Oakville/Mississauga), but these phone selections seem sketchy.

I've seen the Buzz phone at their stores. They had a working model to demo at the store near me. Really good price. But may not have all the bells and whistles as a regular Blackberry.
The phone selection is presently limited to 5 models. I guess it helps keep the costs down. I mean look at the cost configuration for a phone data plan.
$15 unlimited province wide line
$ 5 Voice mail
$10 unlimited e-mail & data plan.
That's $30 a month plus taxes. Hard to pass up if you want something like that as a plan.

I purchased a BUZZ yesterday from Public Mobile. I have to say, it's the worst piece of garbage I have ever bought. The web browsing capabilities are practically useless. Navigation is poor and the menus are very poorly designed. If you're thinking you are getting a blackberry alternative, think again. I am very disappointed with this phone.. I tried to return it, but apparently I spent 30 mins on the phone with tech support over why Google Maps doesn't function. And, if you go over 30mins, no returns/refunds/exchanges... So, I'm stuck with the worst phone ever.. I should have dropped the 300$ on the Blackberry Curve, at least it doesn't look like a 4yr old designed the GUI. And at least browsing websites isn't impossible, like the BUZZ.
Public Mobile shouldn't buy China-made and designed garbage. You've been warned! (I wish I was...)

Sorry to hear about your experience with Public Mobile.
FYI, we settled on a Blackberry Curve with Wind. Interestingly, the trackpad on the Curve didn't seem right, so we went to return it a week later. We had 85min on the phone.....but two 30min phone calls were to 611 to wait while this lady tried to figure out how to add the BES option to the phone. The Wind reps could see the phone calls were to 611, so they let us go ahead with an exchange for a brand new phone. If we were over 30min, we would have had to exchange for a refurbished phone.

First of all, as a rookie - want to thank you all on this (and other forums) regarding Public and Wind - Until this morning I was adamant to purchase the Buzz w/Public - thanks to your feedback/experiences my choice is questionable. I'm currently locked-in w/contract w/one of the 'big 3' (just following your trend) though, my new business will require lots of day-talk mostly within the GTA.
It seems after my research (as I said being a rookie - I looked into: Solo, Koodo, Mobilicity and I don't want to keep embarrassing myself so I'll stop)
I'd be happy with a carrier and phone that allows me to: unlimited day-time provincial calls, good coverage, v/mail and email. No contracts. Cheap.
If you could please advice me on the questions to ask. I don't want to be 'eaten alive' when I go to the shops and their sales reps with their charming fast-talk may not take any pity on me, and end up buying something that I may regret. I felt awful reading what happened to stephen M.
In advance, thank you all... I'm so sorry.. but I'm soooo confused now! ... Any help to lessen the burden would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day! G.

We were shopping for a phone for my wife. Her company was providing $50/month. Our area is Oakville/Burlington, so that crossed Mobilicity off the list. With Public, you're limited with the phone selections.
We went with Wind, with the BB Curve 3G 9300. Pay $140 for the phone. $45/month unlimited province wide talk and unlimited data and text. As long as you're within the Wind Zone. We noticed driving down the St Catharines this weekend, the phone was roaming onto Rogers' system. Just fyi.
But as it turned out, her company uses BB Enterprise, and I was surprised to see Wind even offers that, and only for an extra $3/month. I don't believe Public offers BES and neither Mobilicity. And I think Rogers/Bell/Telus charge much more for BES service. So anyway, it's all worked out so far. She'll find out soon enough how the service is, especially within her office, etc.

Thanks for your response.. I am considering doing a full review of the Buzz and putting it on YouTube, so that others don't have to go through what I did. Then, I'll probably destroy it and count it as a loss.. I will definitely be buying a blackberry.
Reminds me of the time I bought a cheap ipod nano imitation when apple first launched them.. Nothing comes close to a product that was designed in North America. The Buzz must have been designed and made in China, which is why the interface is terrible. Not to say the chinese aren't capable, they just probably got low-balled on the design contract and did what they could do.
I've tried everything with PM, they are not caring what I say. The supervisor won't take it any further and quoted me the company policy on returns about a dozen times. It's just sad that I spent it trying to get support via *611...

Could the Buzz have been re-branded just for Public mobile from the manufacturer? Maybe there are reviews of it, but under a different model name.

I'm a hardware designer by profession, so I can speak fairly confidently that this was designed overseas. It is quite easy to design hardware for something like this, but the interface is something that takes time and refinement.
This is where the Chinese lack, they don't have the finesse to create a seamless and logical interface. Look at the blackberry/iphone, very difficult to compete. It takes a large company and a lot of investment to support that kind of development work.
I should have known better... I spoke to PM today, mentioned that Wind doesn't count the 611 support minutes, they didn't care.
I will do a review this weekend and put it on youtube. Wouldn't want someone thinking they were getting something close to a blackberry, then get screwed like I did.

Find it kind of weird Stephen would join digital home just to poo poo on this phone. Hardware designer by trade should have tried the phone out in the store and seen all the deficiencies before buying it...just saying :rolleyes:

FYI: Stephen_M and Gataba are both first time posts who are deriding the Public Mobile Buzz within a day of one another. Neither has returned to the forum since that time.

I bought the Buzz from Public Mobile 1 month ago for $69 and a very sweet package for $35 month with unlimited everything including Internet for
6 months. NO CONTRACT.
The phone works just fine, no complaints. Takes good pictures too.
I don't know who makes the Buzz phone. It seems to be a no name from China, made for Public Mobile. Some say it's a cheap copy of a Blackberry. I've never had a Blackberry so I don't know.
It comes with an AC charger, all the other accessories are extra, but very reasonably priced. $15 for a car charger, $15 for a case, $20 for a 4 gig micro sdhc card, $20 for a bluetooth ear piece.
The AC charger uses a detachable wire with a USB connection which allows you to connect the phone to your computer to transfer pictures or music.
The only drawbacks with companies like Public Mobile, Wind etc. is the limited coverage areas. It's only good in and around big cities.
I was with Bell before and had a tri-mode phone Sanyo Katana, and it would work just about anywhere, I might have to hook it up again on a pay as you go just for when I'm out of town.
