Yeah, that is really good. Like that homebrew preamp of yours.

I was happy to get ION solid this morning for the first time this year. Actually it is the first time since setting up my distribution to four tuners (was wondering if I was drowning out this weak channel via over-amplifying the stronger ones).

@becks not quite as good as yours but definitely strong this morning. I have an attic-mounted SBGH, and while I normally receive WNPI 18.1/2/3 (RF23), this morning I've received WNYF-LD 28.1/2 (RF18) for the first time ever. I watched for a few minutes and it seems flawless, no artifacts. Normally I can get a whisper of a signal at night but not enough to lock on to - TVfool says it's -9.3 from my location. My antenna is pointed toward South Colton.

I can't see any of the others you mention.

Did anyone else have reception issues last night
Definitely a strange night. I lost all of the local digitals all evening (till past midnight) except CBOFT-DT and OMNI 27.1 on both of my main antennas, but the tropo was pretty extreme. Here's what a scan picked up just before 10pm on my "test" setup (HD8800 pointed to Watertown + Ch 6 yagi, thru UVSJ to Kitz200, all on a 10 ft pole, 50 ft RG6 into HVR950Q):

A scan on my pre-amped CM3671 at 30 ft was similar except didn't catch the ION/WSPX trio, which may have been due to time differences.
Was able to watch parts of the game on Utica NBC 2.1 (WKTV-HD), rest on analog 4 or 36.

Last night was definitely a major tropo night even into this morning, as was the night before. I had everything from WGRZ in Buffalo to WTVH out of Syracuse. Posted some shots in the DXing section. I cant seem to get WKTV and Ive seen a few posts today where people were picking it up.

Yeah, to my surprise I've been getting WNYF/WWNY 28.1/2 (Fox + CBS) and even WWTI 50.1/2 (ABC 50 + CW) with just rabbit ears here in Ottawa north-east (near Crosswinds) past couple of nights (and today).

But also annoyingly I've lost Mountain Lake PBS 57.1/2/3 (UHF 38) apparently because of interference coming from analogue TVO Kingston (CICO-TV-38), which I normally don't get.

Tropo appears tonight!
I get WNPI-DT(18.1-3) here in CDN, Montreal. It's -25NM from 96 miles away according to TVFool. Signal strength is about 40%, quite watchable.
Interesting!

Still getting some tropo activity tonight. Not as good as last night or the night before and a lot of turbulence in the ducting, but have WWTI from Watertown, WNYF-CD rf 35, and WPBS 16-1 16-2, and 16-3:

Great reception of Syracuse channels in downtown Ottawa yet again, with nothing but a knock-off 4-bay uhf antenna and my preamp. Also all Watertown channels and almost perfect reception of analog channel 28 (fox) from Watertown. 100% on RF 35 digital.

As of 10:00 this morning I was able to receive 7.1 and 7.2 for the first time. The last couple of days I have been able to receive 28.1 and 28.2 reliably during the day. Tropo effect must be high.

Current set up -

Crudely built stealth hawk from aluminum ground wire hung outside about 10 feet off the ground. 100' RG6 run without an amplifier.

My TVFool gives 7.1 a signal strength of -10.3 at a height of 30'.

All Watertown channels in Ottawa again tonight. A few breakups but can still watch complete tv shows an hour long.

Seems to be a pattern here. Maybe Watertown isnt much of a DX, but picking up WNYF on 35, with a tv fool of below -40 margin seems pretty impressive to happen consistently almost every night.

Watertown again tonight. Could set my clock to it nowadays. Best reception is actually WNYF 28-1 on rf 35, then WPBS 16-1, 16-2, 16-3, then WWTI 50-1 and 50-2. That's 3 nights in a row, and there were 3 nights in a row last week.

I was starting to think perhaps I had simply found the sweet spot for Fox/CBS with my rabbit ears since it's coming in clearly every night, but I guess this can't last forever...

OT, but this has made be realize: 16:9 (native) 480i programs on Fox look much better to me than the "16:9 double letter-box" (4:3 native) 480i programs on WNPI and WCFE. I wish the SD PBS channels would broadcast native 16:9 instead of double letter-box on 4:3 when appropriate (16:9 shows)...

FOTA -

Fox and CBS are on 2 different channels. Fox high def is on channel 35 UHF which maps to 28-1. CBS is on channel 7 which maps to 7-1 I think. I cant get the CBS channel normally since it is VHF, only the Fox channel.

You might be thinking of the Norwood channels that I cant get because of the building blocking them. There is apparently now a Fox/CBS combo on RF 18 coming from there. You may very well have found a sweet spot. Depending on the part of Ottawa, you can get those channels 24/7 summer and winter. But you would need a good outdoor antenna and a pre-amp.

Nice reception xilbus. You should point your antenna at Watertown for more channels. Im consistently getting everything every night now. I never noticed before but the Fox affiliate is in 720p and not 1080i. Kind of disappointing, but still looks very crisp. A shot from tonight, before sunset, here in downtown ottawa:

I believe most--if not all--Fox affiliates, where HD is used, broadcast in 720p. Same with ABC affiliates.

Thanks Jase. Seems you are right - at least for ABC Watertown - which is still coming through even after 10 AM

Here is something crazy - rare tropo that happened up to almost 10 AM this morning from Buffalo. It must have been unbelievable around 7 AM when it would have peaked, but I wasnt around to see it.
