Can you explain WLED-LD ? My searches indicate that it's a New Hampshire PBS station. As well, you listed WSEE as being 12-3 (RF12). Isin't it 35-1 (RF 16) ?
2011-08-13, 10:46 PM
I believe he meant WLEP-LD. They show RTV,Tuff TV and movies. ERP is 13kw.
WSEE is also carried on a the 3rd sub channel of WICU 12. Even to this day for some reason.
Here, tropo has ramped up just after the rain in the area has exited. WOTV Battle Creek is insane strong on 20 at 149 miles.

I've been seeing some tropo from Detroit the last few days as well. That means it must really be booming in for some folks here. I also saw 9 from Toronto one day, 9 from Windsor the next and CHCH 11 Hamilton both days, even with CFPL 10 on air (I'm about 5km from the CFPL tower.) Not much else in the way of digital channels from the US though, even when the Canadian analogs were good. That doesn't bode well for PT reception here.
I've also been seeing improvements due to tropo on CHCH 51, CKCO 13 and CIII 29. The usual snow was gone. That doesn't say much for their coverage of London.

Thanks Phil for clearing up my post. My bad on WLEP-LD. How important one letter makes in the call sign.....
I swung my antenna towards Cleveland on account that I was watching the Browns game and ended up watching Benny Hill over on 8-2 WJW sub channel.
I thought I would check to see if I could pick up RF24 WOIO-LD while pointing at Akron transmitter roughly 180 degrees but the signal from WJET was so strong that it was all I could get. There is a lot of co channel though as the picture pixelates alot at that position.
So now we here in London have yet more congested co channel to deal with on channels RF24, RF26, RF43 and RF50. Hence the importance of a directional antenna. BTW the DB8 is far from a directional, from my experiences. It picks up way to much on the side lobes, as did my 4221 HD mod's did.

Anyone here have any luck picking up WLMB channel 40 in Toledo? I actually locked it in last night, and it still comes in, albeit it a pixilated mess.
Their major issues is their chose of VHF 5 as a frequency, and their tower far west of the other Toledo stations.
2011-08-14, 11:19 AM
I tried to get it once up here Someguy - no dice....but I have no interest in the content they have on, so I've not tried again.
2011-08-14, 11:33 AM
Signal is now not locking in at all (but does register on the meter), meaning it was just a tropo event. This clearly shows how bad VHF-Lo is. WLMB is only 49 miles from my house and I can't lock it in for the most part (with a clear LOS), yet WLNS and WILX Lansing are about 60 miles away and I can get those fine, even with large trees in the way!
I've talked to their engineer and they have no plans to increase power or move to UHF. Their loss.

TV fool doesn't give a virtual channel for WLEP (RF 43), nor does it show a network affiliation. I assume the virtual channel is 43.1 (a logical conflict with WUAB?). What's it's network affilation?
I've never gotten WOIO (Akron) - but something doesn't make sense. Why would they put that station on RF-24, when WJET is on the same RF channel and only about 25 miles away ?!
What's conflicting with WNYB on RF 26?
You could also add RF-28 as being in conflict (WUAB and WCMZ) both of which I've gotten. Also RF-45 (WNEO and WDIV) and RF-41 (WXYZ and WKBN).
As of 11:15 am today, with my antenna pointed to Cleveland, I'm picking up Wjet with 4/5 bars, and WFXP with 4 bars. With this crappy weather?
WLEP-LD has RTV on 9-1, Tuff TV on 9-2, and movies on 9-3.
25 miles? It's 103 miles.

The co channel I speak about are the ones that, from our location, give tuners a hard time to decode.
Yes there is co channel on RF41 between Youngstown and Detroit but this type of co-channel barely factors in as I use a directional antenna and they are spaced far enough that the tuner does not get affected.
My issues are with, for example RF50. If I point at 180 degrees I can receive the PBS station out of Akron but usually WQLN out of Erie affects reception as they are only 50 degrees apart. When tropo is occuring the tuner now has to fight with two incoming RF50 signals, which from my experience will knock them out. RF43 is especially bad with one from Buffalo, Erie, and Detroit and another one from the Ohio market which I can't remember right now.
WVIZ Cleveland RF26 conflics with WNYB Jamestown RF26
on many tropo nights.

Yea I got confused - I thought WJET was in Cleveland (hence my comment about it being 25 miles from Akron). I've yet to pick up WVIZ - any idea why not?
Are there any Toledo stations that can be picked up in London? Or are they on VHF?
Speaking of VHF - is it worth while putting up a VHF antenna in London for long-distance Rx? I have (stored in my garage) my parents old Radio Shack VHF-only antenna (circa 1985-1988). I believe it was their largest model (10 foot beam?).

I have pulled in Toledo. The VHF channel RF11 and RF13 typically are tough to pull in an account we have channel 10 CFPL which causes adjacent channel issues with channel 11. Then you have channel 13-1 WTVG but it is hard to pull in on account of CKCO 13 out of Kitchener affecting it.
Same deal with channel 11 out of Hamilton, pretty hard to receive.
I would really like a bigger VHF antenna but the small Delhi VIP302SR model I own actually is pretty good, and creates lest stress on my rotor. Is it worth having a VHF antenna? I say yes. Is it needed? Probably not.
Most VHF stations pump out weak signals causing more difficult reception.
With my VHF antenna I pull in these channels during tropo/summer:
12-1 WICU RF12 Erie
8-1 WJW RF8 Cleveland
7-1 WJBK RF7 Detroit
Hope this assists a bit.

Very active tropo evening tonight. From the northern Detroit suburbs, I've been receiving (with my CM 4228A on a rotor on my chimney):
WGRZ 33.1/2.1 Buffalo
CHCH 11.1/11/1 Hamilton
WICU 12.1/12.1 Erie
WJET 24.1/24.1 Erie
WQLN 50.1/54.1 Erie
WFXP 22.1/66.1 Erie
CKXT 19.1/19.1 London
2011-08-16, 03:13 AM
Same here but with a few different channels.
Got to see TVO in both Kitchener/Paris and London convert to digital.
Global Paris on CH6 is completely crystal clear. I have not seen it that clear before.
Trying for new CHCH-DT11 but WTOL will not allow it from behind, so left with No signal for both.
Even stuff off the CN Tower like CKXT 66 and CIII 65 are in barely as well as the analogs. What a poor night for those judging reception of the new digital channels.
2011-08-16, 03:26 AM
All coming in tonight. Even weirder, I'm receiving CIII Global on 6. Something I never receive.. without snow or ghosting or just in general (thus the 8foot long Delhi VHF sitting in the corner that's gonna be hooked up when they convert.)
2011-08-16, 09:42 PM
My first glimpse of CIII-HD RF 22 here in Buffalo...
Is That Stevenson?...
Nice to report some finds from the other end of the lake that begin with the letter C for once...
2011-08-16, 10:56 PM
From Burlington - I'm picking up ION and WBBZ tonight. I didn't expect to ever see WBBZ on a CM4221 :-)
Does anyone else in the area (North Hamilton or Oakville), without an excessive tower reliably pick up either of these two (on non-tropo events)?
...I may need to invest in a nice VHF yagi or lp. I wonder what my wife will think
2011-08-16, 10:59 PM
It sure is majortom. Tower is actually right on the lake about 7 miles from me. This must mean stuff from your end of the lake may be bouncing over here again tonight, though I haven't checked here yet.
2011-08-16, 11:16 PM
Cleveland rocks in Niagara Falls Canada tonight!
I almost got me a piece of that new CHCH DTV broadcast, I think there was some Meg Ryan on there...
Also a new scan allowed me to enjoy NBC channel 3.1 and weather 3.2 from WKYC and some WEWS 5.1 ABC TV.
This is from the reflectorless SBGH (that I built from specs off this very site) in my closet on the second floor of my house, meanwhile the CM 4221HD on the roof hooked up to my 7777amp is getting me not much!
2011-08-17, 10:24 PM
So regardless if I point my yagi to Buffalo or Erie, I'm picking up WJET, WFXP and WGRZ at the same time. I think also WQHS.
When pointed to Buffalo, I can also pick up WIBV, WKBW and WNYO (and WNYB). Can't get WNLO or WNED.
Is WGRZ the strongest station in Buffalo (when viewed from London?). I'm getting it with 8 bars, while the other 2 or 3 Buffalo stations are like 1 or 2 bars.
Heh. Even when pointing at Buffalo, I'm getting WDIV and WWJ. When I swing around to Detroit, I lose WWJ (?) but I get WXYZ.
11:30 pm: WYFX (33-1/2/3) Youngstown OH - 10 bars.
