: BTV 2011 Outages Thread - Please read post 1.
dirtroad 2011-06-09, 06:34 PM Thought it might have had something to do with GTA's weather, it went down during our local news in Manitoba so glad I still have OTA! I was a little concerned it may have had something to do with the huge solar flare recorded by NASA, but luckily no new zombie sats yet! At least the Aurora Borialis would be spectacular to watch!;)

conundrum2 2011-06-24, 12:31 PM Down for a few minutes in southern Manitoba, around 11:15 am central June 24. Weather clear.
Another storm in Toronto??
Yes, very heavy rain in Toronto - see radar links in post 1. Thanks for reporting - added date/time to post 1 list.
dirtroad 2011-08-04, 06:42 PM For the last few days transponder 5 has been out on 91 degree satellite, I suspect this has something to do with configuration of the satellite to allow for more locals in SD, unless anyone knows the reason. This is not a problem, just an observation. Don't use transponder 5 for trying to align a dish!;)
Pinza 2011-08-04, 09:45 PM Transponder 5 on Nimiq 91 is now 8PSK, so SD Receivers and Sat Meters will no longer see it.
Transponders 1 & 2 on Nimiq 82 have also gone 8PSK.
There is a National Installation Bulletin out describing it, my scanner just failed or I would have posted an image.
Sybok 2011-08-07, 08:22 PM I live in SW Ontario and we lost the satellite signal on both receivers a couple minutes ago. Clear here ... perhaps Toronto is getting hit with rain?
Pinza 2011-08-07, 08:24 PM Yep, that is my Guess, Radar shows a huge cell over Bell Uplink Station.
Signals now returned here.
Tom.F.1 2011-08-09, 12:47 PM I seem to lose signal twice for most rain outages. Storm passed uplink and I lost signal @ 11am, now storm is here and I've been out from 12-12:30.
Same thing sunday eve.
I'm about an hour east of the uplink as the crow(storm) flies.
P.S. I previously reported that bigger dishes helped. But now i'd say, didn't help much.
I've added the last two episodes to Post 1. Thanks for posting.
tofinoguy 2011-08-09, 05:32 PM I found it quite ironic that Sunday's outage was during the series premiere of Discovery's Curiosity, where Stephen Hawking was concluding that there is no evidence of a god. Perhaps this was a sign :D
regkit 2011-08-21, 02:40 PM are we down again????
Pinza 2011-08-21, 02:43 PM Yep, been out for 7 minutes so far, major cell over Scarborough's uplink station.
regkit 2011-08-21, 02:48 PM sunny here in Orillia
streamer 2011-08-21, 02:49 PM Back up
David1953 2011-08-21, 02:53 PM Yet another outage caused by thunder in Toronto, with sunny and warm conditions in Halifax. Rather irritating to see this happen so many times this summer, and a pity that Bell doesn't have a backup uplink site.
Today is my last day with satellite though, returning to cable tomorrow.
timpayne 2011-08-21, 02:53 PM TSN lost the source signal for the race. Roll commercial(s)!
Thanks Pinza..I thought it might be the solar flare finally reaching satellites.LOL.
Quite the storm. The top half of a 150 year old tree came off and is now blocking the entire street outside our home. 30 mm of rain in 10 minutes! I'll add this outage to the list in post 1.
Went for a walk after the storm and half the streets in our neighbourhood are closed with downed trees and branches. Lots of power lines lying around, but mostly to individual homes. The mains are up and our street still has power. Several cars crushed under trees and branches. So far no reports of major injuries, but I'll be watching the news tonight.
The wind was not that bad though - measured a peak of 53 kph at my weather station, but microbursts may have been higher in the area.
zarrell 2011-12-04, 04:28 PM Satellite is out south of Calgary. Had a good winter storm come through last night so I guess that could be part of the problem. Although my dish is completely clear and the skies are now clear as well.
