RBC, the same guys that predicted $200 a barrel oil by 2010 and so on. The headlines are blogworthy but the economic analysis is missing.

source??

I know Jeff Rubin did (formerly of CIBC World markets) but don't recall RBC saying the same.

A little Steve Jobs in you maybe? joking, joking.

You're probably right. I'm just tired of wild ass speculation by analysts in order to sell their reports which have little or no basis in reality hence my reference to Mary Meeker.

I'd confirm that it was Jeff Rubin and I would agree that analysts seem to be given a lot of credibility in many areas when it is not earned. Having said that, if anyone on the pro-Apple side of the fence is so certain of Apple's continuing dominance, then I invite you to buy shares. I believe I'll sit on the fence on that one just as I will sit on the fence when it comes to buying a tablet.

I just can't believe that Apple is the only one that can do it right.

The very fact that the quality of tech sector analysis is so poor is why I don't buy shares. AAPL has some strong fundamentals, but if some self-proclaimed "analyst" is going to drive stock prices based on what they read in the blogosphere instead of a proper sensitivity analysis, then I'll put my money elsewhere.

Like james99 said a couple of posts up, tech investing is better left to fantasy pools.

Well here we are three and a half months after this report so I thought I would check in on this thread.

Since this thread was first posted. We have had many new tablets released. Currently, Apple can't keep iPad's on the shelves and is expecting to sell 12 to 14 million iPads in the next quarter. Sales of competing tablets seem lukewarm at best.

Three months later, I still think RBC Analyst is full of it and doesn't know what he's talking about.

It will take time, look at the first Android smartphones. I think things are starting to heat up and will even more so once Ice Cream Sandwich is out. I know quite a few people that have recently bought Android Tablets and I will be replacing my iPad with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on July 22 unless more info on the HTC or Amazon tablet comes out soon.

As others have, I've voted with my wallet. I picked an iPad 2 during the first week it was out. It's a great product, despite a number of maddening things in the UI experience of iOS.

I was lucky enough to get an ASUS Transformer within a few weeks of its release and the only hiccup was intermittent wifi drops the first few days after the Android 3.1 update.

My comparison between the two? Let's put it this way: I use the Transformer frequently throughout the day, every day. Despite the iPad's slickness, I think I've opened the Smart Cover three or four times in the two months since I got the ASUS. 'Nuff said. ;)

My money's with iOS, AirPlay and iTunes (music, movies, apps) nothing else especially Android comes close. All my iOS gear plays very well together even at this early stage. Ever try the iPad Remote app with an AppleTV? Or multicast audio on a handful of AirPort Express's & ATV's. Pure joy.

Android's a mess right now, it was freely available without any apparent effort to control what hardware or software was put on it. Every Tom, Dick & Harry put it on their gear with varying results turning it into a quagmire. It's apps are poorly protected and easily pirated, not much incentive for app developers either. Google either pulls in the reins (which they seem to be doing) or Android will wind up like the 1984 video game crash.

Gonna disagree here
iTunes is just awful to use, and it's frustrating to HAVE to use it to simply load media onto my iDevice

There are lots of DLNA streamers for android that allow me to stream media to my Archos tablet without having to transcode it first (like I do with my iDevice)
so in this regard, Android wins the media battle

with android and windows, it's also easy to do multi casting.

I really do like how Apple has set up the air port extreme (i think?) where you can just plug a set of speakers/receiver into it though. it's a very elegant solution imo

the REMOTE app is very nice, but there's a dozen windows and android apps that do basically the same thing.

all that being said though, I don't think anyone has really gotten the tablet just right yet

I love the form factor of the Playbook, but it just isn't going to have the legs to get the support it needs.

Android will have the most hardware variations, and hopefully the right one comes along

right now, I'm almost 100% satisfied with my archos tablet and iPod touch combo

just need to combine the 2 into 1 unit, heh

Time will tell.

It's all in the details.

The AirPort Express has the audio out (both analog and optical) and is AirPlay compliant.

iTunes on Windows is awful, I blame it on the way Windows handles files. On OSX it's great.

Playbook well the recent layoffs and poor sales aren't a good sign.
