: Rugby World Cup 2011
nufan 2011-07-21, 12:22 PM I found a more recent article directly from tsn.ca which gives some details: http://www.tsn.ca/rugby/story/?id=372115
The article says: As part of the deal, every RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011 match will be broadcast live on either TSN, TSN2 or TSN.ca.
Every match live would be amazing! However the next paragraph says: TSN, TSN2 and TSN Mobile TV will deliver live broadcasts of all Team Canada matches, the quarter-finals, semifinals and Finals along with other key matches from the 2011 and 2015 tournaments. Select matches will be broadcast live exclusively on TSN.ca.
So I'm a little confused as to what will be shown live on TV, but I'm wondering if some of the non-Canada pool games will be only on TSN.ca, which isn't terrible.
Under 50 days till the WC starts, can't wait! And excited for TSNs live coverage :)
NB Josh 2011-07-22, 11:56 AM Here (http://canadiansportsfan.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/rugby_world_cup_2011_tsn_and_tsn2_broadcast_schedule.pdf) is the full schedule. As you can see, most will be on TSN or TSN2.
Wayne 2011-07-22, 12:37 PM That's great to see - but then again, why wouldn't they show all of the matches live since what else are they going to be showing at 3 am that is more important?
And I assume that all games will be in HD?
NB Josh 2011-07-22, 01:01 PM The games that are on TSN.ca are:
Sept 9, 9pm ET - Romania vs. Scotland (TSN has CFL, I think TSN2 has NASCAR)
Oct 1, 8pm ET - Argentina vs. Georgia (TSN has CFL, not sure about TSN2)
Everything else is on TSN or TSN2.
nufan 2011-07-26, 10:10 PM brilliant! thanks for the schedule. Must say I am impressed that TSN is covering this so well. Of course it helps that they are mostly early mornings Canada time so not many conflicts, but still, I can't wait! Was fully expecting to have to follow my AB's with some kind of online stream.
Some early mornings coming up, but at least they are mostly Sat and Sun, with just 2 friday early mornings, but who needs to be awake for work :)
hercules130 2011-08-29, 10:32 PM I am so glad to see that TSN / TSN2 carry all but two games live. While I might not see them all live, I can record whatever I want, thanks to PVR. This is quite significant as our Southern neighbors do not get as good as we do.
NBC / Universal Sports only carry some of the games, and even then yet only a few of them live. Their other option is to watch online at $24.99 / game. I myself am not crazy about watching on the internet.
Overlord0102 2011-09-06, 04:39 PM I have searched everywhere for the World Cup Rugby 2011 on Setanta and cannot find any TV listings anywhere. In fact when England play Argentina on Saturday Sept 10, they are showing an old England Wales game from gawd knows when. I think Setanta have lost the rights to 2011, so it's down to TSN/TSN2 and CBC in NA, and it doesn't matter what time the games are on in NZ, they should show them live here, I mean, whats better than tucking into a pint and breakfast while watching a great game of rugby
VanCitySports 2011-09-06, 05:00 PM You've searched everywhere but this thread? As mentioned, all games will be shown live on TSN, TSN2 or TSN.ca
TSN Broadcast schedule - http://www.tsn.ca/rugby/feature/?id=47571
Wayne 2011-09-06, 05:15 PM What's wrong with having them on TSN & TSN2 as they have a much larger subscription base than Setanta? I believe it was a goal of the IRB to get the RWC out to as many people as possible rather than trying to wring every last dollar out of the rights and have the games on super-premium channels or PPV.
You must eat an early breakfast as the latest games will be ending at about 6:15 am Ottawa time. At least the Canada-NZ game is on at 10:30pm which is a reasonable time for watching a game with a pint.
nfitz 2011-09-07, 08:26 PM Adding TSN2 without HD cost me a lot more than adding Setanta in HD.
That said, most of the Canada games are on TSN, which has much higher penetration than Setanta. And I suspect even TSN2 has higher penetration.
Nighthawk 1 2011-09-10, 07:48 PM Does anyone know why today's scheduled match between Fiji and Namibia was replaced with tennis? I'm now wondering how reliable the schedule really is.
Wayne 2011-09-10, 09:27 PM Well the Fiji-Namibia game was shown live at 11:30 pm last night so if it was supposed to be on today that was a replay. It is understandable to pre-empt a replay with live sports, assuming the tennis was live.
VanCitySports 2011-09-10, 11:25 PM Wayne is correct. All the rugby matches are live late at night/early in the morning. Anything during the day is a replay.
NB Josh 2011-09-11, 02:58 PM I presume it was the game scheduled for 6-8 pm ET? The US Open men's semifinals were supposed to end at 6, but they ended up both lasting 4+ hours and not finishing until 9 or later.
Wayne 2011-09-12, 12:12 PM There was more of an issue with the Aus-Italy game which started at 11:30pm on Saturday. It was joined in progress as the Serena Williams - Wozniacki tennis match went late.
We missed the first 6 minutes of the rugby game but it could have been worse as Serena won in two sets. It if was a three-setter it could have gone on for the entire first half of the rugby game.
JethroChoiceBro 2011-09-12, 02:45 PM What was annoying about the Aus-Italy game was that TSN (I think) was only showing Sportscenter and then some show about Gretzky's trade from Edmonton. So would have made sense to move the tennis over to TSN and let TSN2 show the rugby as scheduled.
Not sure if moving programs from TSN2 to TSN though doesnt create just more issues/confusion.
Unrelated, have been pretty impressed with the HD picture quality of the games, looks great - unless I am just overly jaded from usually watching rugby in SD on Setanta
Wayne 2011-09-12, 02:55 PM You are right - they should have showed either tennis or rugby to TSN. It wouldn't have helped me if they moved the rugby as I was recording this to watch later. Luckily it doesn't seem that much happened in the first 6 minutes of the game as the score was still 0-0.
You are right that the games look great. I have Setanta HD and this is a far better picture quality but that could be due to several things in the chain from TV cameras to our TVs here in Canada.
hercules130 2011-09-13, 10:40 AM What happend on Saturday I think because TSN had previous commitment for NASCAR that made U.S. Open moved to TSN2. And they were right, they needed to air U.S. Open in its entirety in one channel.
What I do not understand is that TSN does move the beginning of a program to TSN2 - as an overflow - if the previous program runs beyond its schedule. Once the previous program is over, the current program is then moved back to TSN. However, it seems like it does not work in reverse. That is, overflow can not work from TSN2 to TSN, apparently.
Guess it is their way of showing that TSN is on a higher standing than TSN2.
Wayne 2011-09-13, 10:57 AM I just prefer them to keep everything to the originally scheduled channel as much as possible as I don't watch anything live - I PVR all of my sports, especially stuff that happens in the wee hours like the RWC. But US Open tennis is one of the rare sporting events, outside of NHL playoff hockey, that can go past midnight. But it will no longer be an issue as it is over.
VanCitySports 2011-09-13, 12:46 PM Of course we all want them to stick the the schedule, I'm sure. Doubt there are many that enjoy things getting moved around. Unfortunately that is the hazard with live sports, there typically is no guaranteed finish all the time.
Baseball is notorious for going over their scheduled time. Just last weekend I missed the start of the Whitecaps game because some lame baseball game went over. Sad part is there was still a 30 minute buffer between the scheduled end of baseball and the start of the Whitecaps and the game didn't even go into extra innings. Not the first time with baseball. Luckily I got home and found out the Caps were being shown on Sportsnet East/Ontario.
Most sports are pretty good in general with not doing that though as you say. Tennis happens quite often and sometimes with NHL playoffs.
