Why is it taking CHEK 6 so long to fix their audio issue on their digital channel? The transition was on Aug 31st and it's Oct 4th today, and their analogue channel VHF 6 is still running. Is there any CRTC or Industry Canada deadline for them?

I noticed today that Chek in Victoria now has sound on my tuner, I guess they finally got it going.

CHEK has changed to 1080i and changed call sign from CHEK-DT to CHEK-HD. As of 5pm, PSIP is working, including program descriptions (e.g. guests are listed for Jimmy Kimmel at 11pm). Immediately preceeding the 5pm news, there were two commercials in 16x9 HD.

Update: Clock is messed up, always X:59 when flipping to that channel. Otherwise, PSIP seems to be working.

CHEK-HD

Looks good worth the wait they made a good choice to go all the way to 1080i cool.

Just spoke to Ron with CHEK's engineering group. They just got the parts in yesterday and were installed right away.

It is commendable that a small locally owned station such as CHEK is broadcasting an OTA HD signal and have implemented PSIP and onsreen program info before most of the major local stations, but I have noticed the following over the past couple of nights:

1. Real time EPG as displayed by my Samsung TV is either off by aprox 1 hour (displays the previous time slot show) or the EPG displays the "dreaded" No Title - No Detailed Information.

2. All programming is displayed in letterboxed 4:3 SD

Perhaps they are working on implemented HD programming in the near future, or the conversion from 720p (the ABC HD shows that CHEK is rebroadcasting) to CHEK's 1080i needs more work. It is just a bit odd that CHEK is showing 16:9 full screen HD commercials no problem, but "Night Line' and Jimmy Kimmel" are shown letterboxed 4:3 SD when the exact same shows / episodes are shown an hour later on KOMO in full screen 16:9 HD.

PS: CHEK just showed a short preview for an upcoming "60 Minutes" episode in full screen 16:9 HD (CBS also broadcasts in 1080i). Could the conversion from 720p to 1080i be the problem for the ABC shows or is it some kind of rights issue?

In North Vancouver, CKVU 10.1 (33) has not been broadcasting since at least 7:00 p.m. local. TS Reader is unable to pick up any digital content even though the signal is strong (-20 dB) I confirmed that there is a good signal on channel 33 with my HTPC and TV. I didn't find it when I did a channel scan to see if it had moved to a different virtual channel. Left a message with the station.

Same for CHNM-DT Omni TV 42.1 (UHF 20)

CKVU-HD City TV Vancouver is off the air

So is its sister or fellow Rogers station CHNM (OMNI). Both channels show good signal strength but just a black screen. One of these stations (or both) seem to have a similar problem on a fairly regular basis (few hours every 30-40 days)

Filed under wishful thinking on my part, perhaps this time they have both shut down in order to implement full EPG.

Also 17.1 CIVI is breaking up badly with a very weak sigmal. I temporaily have the 4 Bay antenna indoors and pointed the opposite direction for Bellingham channels, but all the other Mt Seymour channels are the usual strong and steady with the same setup.

It appears they're having transmission problems this morning.

Mine were out last evening (Oct 10th) as well. I really thought with the heavy rain it had gotten into a connection on my rooftop antenna, but it's good to know that it is likely a technical issue and I received them this morning. I was getting 74% signal intensity and 100% for signal quality for both of the above stations, but just a black screen with no picture. Of interest, both stations are broadcasting at a relatively low 8500W compared to the others, which for the Mt. Seymour stations I was noticing a 10-20% reduction in signal strength for CBUT-DT 43, CIVI-DT-2 17 and CIVT-DT 32, but CHEK-DT 49 was stronger and the Bellingham stations were also strong.

Is anyone aware if CHEK-DT 49 recently bumped up their transmitting power from what they were using initially? I'm getting CHEK-DT much stronger since yesterday (Oct 11).

CHEK-TV, channel 6 analog, has signed off the air, marking the last of the full power analog stations to go off the air in the Vancouver/Victoria markets.

http://members.shaw.ca/nwbroadcasters/recentnews.htm

No question now, Vancouver/Victoria are officially UHF over-the-air TV markets.

My converter box says there is a strong signal, but no CHEK here either at 8:30 pm, I noticed it wasn't on earlier as well.
