danbcman 2011-09-06, 12:03 PM CIVI-2 17 "Lines of interference"
I get the same problem here I wonder if the exciter is blasting a too high data rate to the transmitter?
stampeder 2011-09-06, 12:09 PM I've been monitoring CIVI-DT 17's Error Rate, Forward Correction, and Signal-To-Noise ratio for awhile at the same time as watching it on screen. There are no anomalies seen in the statistics, yet I eyeballed occasional picture breakups or mini-glitches.
I'm inclined to believe that the problem is upstream somewhere within CTV instead of at CIVI's ATSC exciter/transmitter.
danbcman 2011-09-06, 01:42 PM I have been doing the same observations from two seperate systems and two antennas at the same time and in both cases the signal is not the issue it is internal in my view also.
KBTC had the same issue feeding to Direct TV and they resolved the issue by lowering the bit rate feed to direct tv so that was where my thinking came from.
danbcman 2011-09-07, 12:52 PM CIVI 17's BER, SNR, and FEC
I had a great conversation with CTV2 engineering about the irregularities and have been assured they are looking into tracking the problem and correcting it.
:)
Archerotor 2011-09-07, 05:00 PM Great work, danbcman
I was going to ask if anyone here had been in contact with CTV on that issue. How did you find the right contact info to get to speak to CTV2 engineering?
danbcman 2011-09-07, 06:13 PM I had to call CTV1 and explained to thier engineer and he then referred me to CTV2 it was not the easiest pathway but I did get the right person for the job that way.
tvlurker 2011-09-08, 11:46 AM For a similar issue with CTV2 in Ottawa, I also made email contact with someone in CTV(1) engineering. The problem was with the feed and not with the transmitter.
danbcman 2011-09-09, 02:06 AM I hope they get soon as the new programs are due to begin :)
danbcman 2011-09-09, 09:30 PM CHAN HD 22.1
I find I am having a very large drop in CHAN HD barely able to lock great fluctuations
Looks like the PSIP has a very high rate
Program Number: 1 CHAN-HD
PCR PID: 0x0031
Stream Type: 0x02 MPEG-2 Video PID 49 (0x0031)
MPEG Video: Bitrate 24.000 Mbps Resolution 1920 x 1080i
MPEG Video: Framerate 29.97 fps Aspect Ratio 16:9 Chroma Format 4:2:0
A few hours later 10:11pm things have stabalized I saw many changes in the PSIP entries until about 915pm when it remained the same, I guess they fninshed the changes for now.
swan_ch 2011-09-10, 02:32 PM did anyone notices that the program guide of CIVI (CTV two VanIsland) is gone?
tvlurker 2011-09-10, 11:39 PM The program guide is gone on CTV-Two in Ottawa, as well.
danbcman 2011-09-11, 08:56 PM How is global 22.1 for you mine seems to be no lock?
I get a lock in Coquitlam at 10:39 pm, a little touchy with the silver sensor clone, but a lock and fairly strong signal
danbcman 2011-09-12, 02:07 AM Thnaks s40 I had to reaim fussy antenna when it gets moved.
queerasmoi 2011-09-23, 01:37 AM Okay I finally tried out my indoor amplified Philips Silver Sensor clone for the first time since post-transition. I'm getting CBC, City, CTV Two, Global, SRC, CTV, OMNI. All of the Mt Seymour stations and nothing else. My Samsung TV got confused by some of the remappings and was unwilling to find CTV or CTV Two until I did a full rescan.
SRC in HD is actually the one channel out of those seven that Shaw is still not yet carrying. So perhaps when Olivia Chow is on Tout le monde en parle this Sunday I'll flip to the antenna :)
Michael DeAbreu 2011-09-23, 07:17 PM Has anyone else experienced breakup and pixelation on CTV Two (formerly CIVI 17)?
I have 100% signal strength on both my TV and in Windows 7 Media Center.
danbcman 2011-09-23, 07:30 PM CTV2 I have contacted them a bout a week ago and sent off some further info last week via land mail and I am awaiting their reply they are are very aware of the problem and are trying to track it down and correct it.
jbr439 2011-09-24, 01:02 AM OK - so I'm not the only one seeing the breakup. I thought it was a problem with my reception.
conurus 2011-09-29, 09:46 PM Rimor - CHEK engineers are aware of their audio problems (Mpeg-2 instead of AC-3) and are waiting on parts. Once that has been resolved (no ETA when I spoke to him last week) then I'd revisit the audio volume issue and address it if required. They've got changes in the works.
My temporary workaround for the CHEK-DT channel 6.1 audio problem is to hook up an analog VCR and tune it to channel 6 and use only its audio. So, audio from analog channel 6 and video from digital channel 6.1.
Alex1978 2011-09-30, 01:32 PM I have a Samsung TV that until a couple of days ago would not re-map CHAN-HD to channel 8-1. That tuner still isn't displaying any program information, but at least it has the virtual channel right. Has anyone else seen a change in CHAN's PSIP?
