CBC will now be in 1280x720P
Sounds like they may be putting both CBUFT and CBUT from the same transmission stream?
Not from the same TS.

Another note CBC will now be in 1280x720P (I’m just a messenger)

What is the bit rate going to be? I've only got a 40" TV so I really can't see a big difference between 720P and 1080i, but if the bit rate goes down that would be sad to see.

At least we have a rebroadcast of KBTC on channel 24 (RF) from Bellingham, nothing for ION sadly.

Until CKVU fires-up channel 27 in Victoria and kills KBTC's OTA signal on Mt. Constitution. Then we lose the 1080i PBS and the Woldwiew and TVW subs, and go back to that lame down converted SD version of PBS.

KBTC puts 10 to 30 dBu of signal over most of Victoria on channel 27 -- that's not enough for anyone to get a lock on their signal, but it is enough to scew-up the SNR and prevent a lot of on Vancouver Island from being able to lock onto CKVU's repeater on channel 27 reliably.

The geniuses at Rogers should have gone after different allotments. 33 and 27 are among the worst they could have chosen.

Isn't 720p supposed to be better for sports because it is progressive?

Yep, they just moved to 33 with great signal strength (around 90 on my tester) and SNR hovering between 30 and 31dB with no FEC problems. :)

Let's see what happens with CNHU coming up on 47 today...

Nothing in Victoria from 33, CKVU, nothing on 27 at the moment either.

I now get CKVU-DT 10 (UHF 33) strong, whereas I couldn't before on UHF 47. I do wonder if previously they were using their max allotted 8300 watts.

From what I've read on Wikipedia it looks like CKVU has not changed their ERP, I didn't receive anything from that channel before so I wasn't really expecting to get anything now.

Isn't CHNU transmitting from the same place as several other stations? Are they not yet up?
gshall is online now Report Post Quick reply to this message

According to the IC database (thanks Stampeder) the co-ordinates of CHNUDT1 and CIVI are the same, however CIVI must be at a lower power because I get CHNUDT1 at about 80% and CIVI at about 40%
