: OTA Station Status: Buffalo, Rochester NY
I often get rf15 TCT from Buffalo where I am - just east of the central business district. And I get analog 15 StarRay too. I am nervous about CHCH on 15, but looking forward to it. The present situation with CHCH on 11 is not acceptable so anything will be better.
recneps77 2012-05-24, 03:50 PM afraid so. must have fixed it sometime today.:(
Seriously, you get this from Whitby?
Yes, which is why I was hoping it was gone in time for CHCH's move :p
It's mostly a summer station, don't see it too often in the winter (but still there on occasion) - I never watch it, just use it for signal sensitivity tests as it's one that may or may not be there depending on weather.
majortom 2012-05-24, 09:35 PM seems they have changed PSIP generators (or at a minimum reprogrammed it)
Now they are sending WBNF-CD, WBFN-HD, etc in their ch 15 instead of WNYB like they were:(
alebowgm 2012-05-24, 09:52 PM Why a :(. It makes sense for it to say WBNF.
majortom 2012-05-24, 10:10 PM my way of indicating unhappy that it's still around. the band aid has been ripped off the wound, i guess;)
CoconutJoe 2012-05-31, 12:29 AM I came searching on here to see if anyone else is noticing the same issue I have with WKBW. I'm getting audio drop out issues, but of a different nature than what I've seen previously posted. The actual PROGRAMS are fine (full volume), but random commercials will be silent (actually, most commercials are silent, but the odd one kicks in with full volume). But no matter what, once the program comes back on I have full volume again. I do not lose volume during the programs. I assumed there was a problem with their feed, but I didn't see anyone else mentioning this in my search.
Every other channel seems fine and does not give me this issue, though I have absolutely no volume on WNED (17.1). There is volume on 17.2 though.
majortom 2012-05-31, 01:36 AM i haven't noticed anything wrong with WKBW's audio.
The WNED issue sounds like maybe ya need to select the right audio program?
Maybe see if your TV has a setting for selecting different audio programs (i.e. language, etc)?? For instance, 17.3 sometimes has a descriptive audio program labelled as "English 2". The normal Program would be "English1".
ota_canuck 2012-05-31, 02:04 PM I would suggest doing a complete factory reset/rescan on your TV's tuner. Some TVs [like my Samsungs] have a function in the main menu to do a complete factory reset and then you'd have to do an initial rescan for OTA[air] channels. I'd think your tuner may have lost the ability to read/decode certain audio formats.
I had a similar Samsung issue a while back with WBBZ video going to black, but audio stayed on, and I did the factory reset/and initial rescan,.. all has been good since.
This is an issue with ATSC,... Not all TV tuners seem to be able to deal with the abundant array of audio/video formats that broadcasters have in their toolbox.
majortom 2012-06-16, 08:02 PM Anyone besides me notice how "grainy" the picture is on the ION main channel, 51.1? When I compare it to the Ion Mux on CBAND Satellite it doesn't look any better there. Looks fine during commercials. Almost looks like a snowy or sparkly analog picture. Looks the same on PC and TV. Don't think all programs look like this.
here is a VLC snapshot of Psyche from this PM as an example.

fordescort 2012-06-17, 09:37 PM Hi, anyone else having problems with this station? I have not been able to get any signal at all for over 2 weeks now. However, other stations in this area are still good such as 2-1, 4-1, 7-1, and 17-1.
Marbles_00 2012-06-18, 01:25 PM ^^^^^^
Since this has always been one of my troubled stations...I'd say you're being bit by an extreme "Tropo" bug. You may have to tweak your antenna aim in order to get it.
dheian 2012-06-19, 09:39 AM @majortom,
I've noticed that ION is extremely grainy too.
Majortom,
At times, I notice the same thing with ION 51.1. Usually it is fine. But it has happened enough times that I recognized what you're describing.
Brightonian 2012-08-23, 10:20 PM WROC has announced their news is going HD soon.... I'm excited!!!

That would be good, if their RF45 was not so directional, into Canada. I have issues with it, here in Belleville. You need a good tropo push, to get the best results. Also, have you noticed a slight dip in ERP from the two VHF's out of Rochester lately? They used to be very consistent, here in Belleville, but they are now only an 80% receivable commodity. Just one last thing, are you getting WWNY, down Brighton way, since they boosted their ERP?
Brightonian 2012-08-27, 10:19 AM The 10 O'clock news on FOX 31 will also be in HD.
It is unfortunate that RF45 has such a strong null to the north,
though it comes in most of the time here albeit weaker than the
other Rochester channels.
RF10 and RF13 still seem normal to me... quite reliable and strong.
WWNY comes in often during good reception days, but is not reliable.
Are we sure they have increased their power yet?
I thought is was going to be in the Fall sometime.
Note: I just use a CM4228 for VHF-HI which serves well for 10 & 13, but
not so good for 7.
goforit 2012-08-31, 10:49 PM Cool TV 49.2 has been MIA today.
Phil81 2012-09-01, 02:23 AM Just read that CoolTV is no more on Sinclair owned stations. Just picked up WNYO here 217mi away and wondered why 49-2 was black.
dheian 2012-09-01, 02:51 AM Any word if WNYO's going to replace The Cool TV?
ota_canuck 2012-09-01, 06:40 PM Just read that CoolTV is no more on Sinclair owned stations.
Where did you read this? License agreement expired? Was anything mentioned about the future of 49.2?
Honestly it was just a low budget compilation of old, live at milly's bar & grill type videos, few were recent and some of the unknown band videos appeared to be homemade or shot using a cheap cellphone. I don't think the viewership of coolTV was very successful because of the mediocre content.
I can't find any info online about MyTV subchannel status or any announcements about changes to a new subchannel affilliation.
CMT on fox 29.2 may be facing the same demise due to their boring repeat daily set-lists. I noticed when googling Fox that some other Fox subchannels have changed from CMT to Bounce TV.
