Thanks to WGRZ for the perfect signal last night.
It was even stronger than WIVB.

was good during the game.

im wondering if there was some tropo or something around 2-3 that caused the glitch. was giving me a heat attack as i was having people over! would not of enjoyed the game as much on ctv without those great commercials.

Saw a commercial for the WIVB Channel 4 newscast this evening.
Says their newscast is HD now. I haven't watched CH 4 news yet this week, but will have to make a point of it now:)

I have noticed since mid- Jan that both WIVB and WNLO seem much less reliable than before. Specifically either can be very good than at any moment one or both can go blank only to return later on then go off again. If it were WIVB alone I could somewhat understand but for the few years I have been OTA, WNLO has rarely been difficult to receive. Could it be that their transition to HD broadcasts for their combined local news caused this? I have never seen this pattern before on the other Buffalo stations. Either I get them or I don't but not both so erratically in such a short time span. Anyone else in the GTA noticed this peculiarity?

I haven't noticed any drop in reception from them. Do you think maybe you're dealing with overload? WNLO is a very strong station.

Every once in a while I fire up the HDHomerun GUI to see if I can get WBBZ.

No luck yet, but I am confused by something. Lately it's been showing 100% signal strength for VHF7 but Signal Quality and Symbol Quality are both at 0.

What exactly do those two represent and why would they be at 0 when the Signal Strength's at 100?

Signal strength >50 and no lock typically means one f three things
- analog channel
- severe interference (or massively over amplified so a weak stations seems quite strong - remember, snr is the important part - super strong input level doesn't mean much if it's junk)
- PSIP errors

Signal strength: the tuner is receiving something at that frequency. % corresponds to the magnitude of the input.
Signal quality: the important one - tells you how much of that input is good vs bad (snr)
If analog, this will stay 0.
Symbol quality: of the decoded atsc stream, how many errors are there? Typically this is all or nothing. 0 or 100. If it dips down to say, 90, it means there was an error, but it wasn't severe and it could be compensated for. Dropping to 0 you will for sure see as breakups on screen.

I've noticed decent strength on wbbz, but no lock. Its in the 55% range for me, same as wpxj (barely locks)

WBGT has put out a notice that they have fired up their digital signal and stopped their analog signal.

^^^^ This is interesting. On the link provided, there is the statement: "We will now be available on digital channel 46"...

Not sure if they mean physical 46 or virtual 46....

If we get an opening from here to Rochester, which does happen a lot during the spring/summer/fall, anything from Toronto on physical 40 (assuming 40 is their physical channel, above link notwithstanding, could mean interference from anything on 40 physical from Toronto... Or wherever 40 is used in this general area.

It's RF 46. WBGT is a low-power Class A station, which explains why they have only recently switched to digital. Rabbitears' prediction of coverage is here (http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1400790&map=Y).

I wonder why I can't get WBGT RF46.

I know it is a weak signal, but according to the FCC TV Query page it is running at 15KW@192M HAAT compared to W42CO-D RF42 with only 8KW@109M.

I can get RF42 very well much of the time.

Yes I tried for it a minute ago, 42 but no 46. I heard 40 switched to DTV and loooked up the contours of both on bunny, sure looks good.

Finally got WBGT RF46. Weak signal, but locked in at 10%.

Wivb seems to be at lower power these last view days.Signal is weaker with all 3 antennae but reception still solid.I guess they are using their back up transmitter.

I agree. Right now WIVB is at 24 dB, WGRZ 27 dB and WKBW over 30 dB.

Usually WIVB is higher than WGRZ and less than WKBW - at my location.

I have noticed several times in the past few days that WGRZ 2.2 has 100% signal with a WGRZ logo at the top left but no programs. Has AntennaTV been dropped or have they just been having intermitant problems with the programming feed?

OTA_Canuck,
I haven't noticed any such issue. Playing fine here.
Maybe rescan?

Yeah I noticed it during the overnight hours the other night during the storm. The OTA signal was strong but under the WGRZ logo it said "no signal" in blue. It was intermittent happening on and off. I assumed it was due to the storm and that they lost the satellite signal temporarily. Haven't been monitoring it since to see if it was still happening.

The Buffalo area got heavy wet snow...the kind of stuff that wreaks havoc on satellite dishes.

I left it on 2.2 today for a while and a few times it appeared that they lost their feed. Must be either maintenance or possibly intermittant feed failures. Being that they add a logo at the top of the screen [which seems premeditated to have the logo come up],.. it was most likely maintenance on the feed sources.
