I think WNED/WNLO have been off to install new antenna for WBNF TCT 15.

I believe they lease space on WUTV's tower not the WNED/WNLO tower.

PBS and CW down for the 3rd time this week. What are these idiots doing?

Given that the outages have been in the middle of the night on a weekend and not during primetime, I would assume it to be scheduled maintenance of some kind. I guess only idiots do scheduled maintenance.

People who are not idiots just run their gear until it has a catastrophic failure and is forced off the air for a few days. I'm sure you wouldn't be complaining then.

Honestly, I don't have the slightest clue what they're doing, but I'm not sure that calling them "idiots" is terribly constructive or accurate. They've gone off the air in the middle of the night when nobody is watching anyway, as far as I can tell from what I read here, presumably to do some kind of work be it to their equipment or to the tower in general. (Given that they don't appear to be sharing an antenna based on their FCC records, I'm betting it's tower work of some sort and not equipment work.) What, exactly, is idiotic about that? What day and time would be better for doing such work?

Your posting in the wrong thread.;) WNED and CW23 are Buffalo channels.

Here's a Link to the explanation:

Fox 29 out of Buffalo showing as channel 14-3 this morning, with CoolTV showing as 14-4. It's always been on physical 14, but it's the first time I've seen them display in this way, has been 29-1 and 29-2. Anybody know anything?

Are you using a set top box converter?
How strong is the signal?

Sometimes if the signal drops out/in/out repeatedly, your tuner can get confused and lose some channel list detail. Usually it will correct itself when the signal strength is restored.

14RF is the 'real' channel frequency for fox29 & tcn. It should/does remap to virtual channel 29.1 & 29.2. You may have to do a full rescan to fix the tuner's problem.

I thought the same thing when he posted, but checked a couple of minutes after he posted, and PSIP is missing from Fox 29.

You are right!

I was watching 29.1 and all the info was correct, but when I changed channels, it could not find any psip info and it now remaps to 14.3 & 14.4.

Please avoid using hostile terms like "idiots" regarding station staff. We have many, many broadcasting industry insiders as members, from amongst all levels and job descriptions. We welcome them here, and we do not take insults to them as being positive or productive for our site.

Is WQLN still off the air? I have read the posts about the tower repair but I figured it would be done by now. Sure would be nice if they updated their signal status on their website. Shows as "normal" last two times I've checked. ..... Don't think so.

You are right. it's WQLN from Erie. it has 3 subchannels. Its' PBS, CREATE and and another PBS signal. Haven't been able to get it all weekend yet it's usually one of my most reliable channels. Foxx66 from ERIE is still coming in strong. I re -read the post below and the channel repair does refer to WNED. Sorry about that. Still cant get WQLN though.

Yes, WQLN has not been broadcasting for a few days.

Here's amessage posted from WQLN:

TELEVISION: WQLN Television is currently broadcasting only via fiber optic to Time Warner Cable in Erie/Erie County and to Rogers Cable in Canada. Our over-the-air broadcast was interrupted Saturday evening when a severe storm came through Erie causing damage to a breaker. The part was not available until Monday morning in Pittsburgh. As soon as our engineer returns with the part, it will be installed. We are anticipating that the transmitter will be up and running as soon as possible.

If you are an over-the-air viewer (those using an antenna) and are having difficulties receiving our channel you may need to perform a channel scan to restore reception. If you continue having difficulties receiving WQLN TV after a rescan, try manually entering our channel as 50.1 using your remote control. For some digital tuners this will restore the tuner memory and you continue to receive WQLN on channel 54.

WQLN also had a water leak problem back in July that may have contributed to the current failure of the equipment:
WQLN had water from a A/C unit leak on the stations UPS system, Sat afternoon, knocking off TV, 91.3FM and WERG90.5. Electricians were able to bypass this equipment and some of it was back on by 9pm, lots of damage to electric system

Ok idiots was in the heat of the moment.

However, the outages are for whole days at a time on 2 channels. Not at 3am for 20 minutes and it has happened at least 3 times in a week.

This would never happen on cable/sat and if it did there would be hell to pay. On OTA we just have to "take it" as if we are second class viewers.

You may have experienced some strong tropo events to take the channels down for that extended period of time...which has nothing to do with the stations themselves. Last week there was some real strong tropo killing the usual channels...this is just par for the course.

This would never happen on cable/sat and if it did there would be hell to pay.
Your right there would be hell to pay, I would be very upset since I PAY for that product (if I actually had cable). OTA...we don't pay for it, heck, if it was up to the broadcasters, some would just pull the plug on OTA altogether...so be best not to give a reason for them to do just that.

Are you complaining about WNED,WNLO,WQLN problems? These maintenance issues have already been discussed in the Buffalo thread and the signal loss has been explained in detail.

These broadcasters have been quite forthcoming with explanations for signal loses. Some cable/satellite feeds are lost as well as the OTA signal when these stations lose their broadcast antenna due to damages and/or maintenance.
