Please note that areas in Southwest Ontario that receive Michigan and Ohio stations (and further) during unusual reception events now have their own DXing thread:

OTA: Southwest Ontario DXing, Tropo, Odd Reception: 2011 (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=139032)

Areas in Eastern Ontario and Quebec (from Trenton/Belleville through Cornwall and across Southern Quebec) also have their own such thread now: OTA: Eastern Ontario & Quebec DXing, Tropo, Odd Reception: 2011 (https://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=139033)

This present thread will focus on areas affected by unusual reception events in and around Lake Ontario involving New York, Pennsylvania (and further) stations.

WNGS was coming coming in here too in Maple. Was good for about an hour and now its faded but still some signal. Was able to get decode from my sbgh r1, mini-state and kross with vhf amp. First time this year.

WQLN PBS Erie PA

Yeah, Erie, PA's WQLN (RF50) was blasting in last night around 2am! I also picked up Erie's WFXP (RF22) very briefly (it struggles due to analog 22 from Oshawa nearby.) It was a great tropo night yesterday!

I also picked up all the Rochester, NY stations (except low powered W42CO). What I'm noticing lately is that WROC on RF45 seems harder to lock and/or weaker in some way. Usually when tropo hits I get the UHF Rochesters first (WXXI, WUHF, WROC) and only then do the VHF ones come in (WHEC & WHAM.) A couple of times in April, including last night, WHAM on RF13 has been surprisingly strong, even lasting to the point when the UHF ones start fading. (I also wonder if maybe it was Hamilton's Sun TV analog on 45 hurting WROC.

The big surprise of the night was getting Watertown, NY's WWTI (RF21) for a few minutes here and there. Whenever it comes in it's almost always the FX Caprara car infomercials. Heh.

Also got very strong signal from WNGS (RF7) for a while. It was interesting to see them showing local Buffalo ads now (last time I saw the station was probably November last year and didn't notice local ad breaks.)

WOW, hard to believe yo got Watertown in Markham. I have never seen it here and i'm much closer. What's your antenna setup? WROC is a tuff one to get reliably here. WHEC is rock solid, always there regardless of weather. Gee I'm stayin ' up tonight!

Watertown has been picked up by me here in Kitchener, and Panamark in London....

I guess Rice Lake must soak up Watertown signals.:) I will have to swing my antenna east more often in hopes of catching this town. I have tried before but no luck.

I just noticed that WHEC was recently denied an application to increase their ERP to 18KW because of CKVR's ch-10 digital allotment .

@ wilspin - My setup is pretty modest...I have a CM4221HD mounted on an old CD tower on top of a table in my sunroom. (And to catch Watertown, it was actually on the floor!) For VHF I use a pair of homemade rabbit ears. Both are connected to a CM7777 Pre-Amp. There should be a pic in the photo gallery in my profile!

It actually is pretty unusual for me to pickup Watertown's WWTI in April. Usually I only see it during the peak of tropo season in the Summer, and then only for brief periods. Though I did catch it as late as last November. (It's a very weak signal at only 25kw!) I actually see Utica's WKTV more often when tropo heats up. (I caught WKTV at least one time in each month from March through November 2010!)

I think the unseasonably cold weather has put a bit of a damper on this year's tropo season. I took it for granted that March was always a big start to tropo based on 2009 and 2010 results. But who knows what will happen later this year? :-)

Tonight I am getting this station on channel 36 analogue. Seen it before, shopping channel of sorts. I never see this on my fool report etc. Can’t seem to locate its’ origin except is seems south. Anyone know where their tower is?

WNGS showed up for the first time this year on the 4228 when the temps outside hit 70+.

Nice to see 67-1 is now 720p.

I had much better reception of WNGS when they were on analog 67.Used to watch it when it was UPN and had enterprise show on before city tv did.

Probably weather related, but we are currently enjoying some nice localized tropo- MyTV and ION are booming- watching Caddy Shack on 51-3, classic stuff.
