WBBZ is coming in well the last few days but no other hard to get stations are. Anyone else notice this?

New station for me this past weekend:

- WSPX (RF 15) Syracuse

And one I haven't seen in a long time:

- WKTV (RF 29) Utica

Various other Rochester and Syracuse stations coming in at different times.

A surprisingly good weekend considering the time of year.

Was getting a few Rochester and Erie channels myself on Saturday night. First time in awhile there's been much tropo. None of the real long distance channels, though, which for me would be Cleveland to the southwest or Utica to the southeast. Probably won't see much of them until next summer. I don't think I've seen WSPX before either. Wonder if that is because Sun is no longer on RF 15.

Hey everybody!

Around 4am I noticed all the UHF Rochester stations were coming in (WXXI, WROC, WUHF, W42CO) and a little later they were joined by Syracuse, NY's WSTM (RF24.) Was glad to see them! (Never thought Syracuse would be popping up this late in the tropo season. Looking back on 2009/2010, late season tropo generally favoured the opposite direction with Ohio and Michigan stations.)

I also had one VERY unusual result yesterday (Late Monday night.) I was flipping through channels and everything seemed relatively normal. Then I went to RF10 and my jaw dropped when it showed up as CFPL from London, ON!!! At first I wondered if CKVR just flipped on the wrong PSIP, but then I saw a commercial with "CTVLondon.ca" advertised! What made it really odd is that the other London area stations I got earlier this year weren't present. (I saw slight "blinks" of signal on RF31 [CITY Woodstock] and RF48 [OMNI London]...but neither decoded.) And usually if London is coming in, there'd be Erie, Cleveland or Detroit. But none of those showed up either! So CFPL was a very neat, but odd tropo result! (I did pick up CKCO as well....VHF propogation seemed stronger.)

This morning was still very good tropo coming from the east.

Could get all Rochester stations, plus WSTM and WYSR from Syracuse. All coming in very strong.

Also WKTV from Utica.

Got signal from what I assume is WWTI (RF 21) from Watertown but it never locked on. That would be a new one for me.

Too bad I had to leave for work.

Wow got my first glimpse last night of CTV2 from what I though was 10 in Barrie but call letters say no. Lasted only a few minutes. Also WBBZ was coming in.

Interesting tropo last night! I caught "glimpses" of a few unique channels. In the early evening I was getting Batavia, NY's ION (RF23)....which I count as tropo :) Also got Kitchener's CKCO (RF13). But late night is when it got really interesting! I picked up:

London, ON's CFPL (RF10)
Akron, OH's WNEO (RF45) [for only a few seconds, though]
Erie, PA's WQLN (RF50)
Clearfield, PA's WPSU (RF15) [off and on but for a few solid minutes]
Johnstown, PA's WJAC (RF34) [very brief, seconds at a time]

I noticed in the other DX thread that Jase88 also picked up those last two! Was very intermittent, but nice! Here's hoping for some more hot DX these next couple of days!

Nov 26, 2011 - Saturday Afternoon between 3 and 5 PM.

Amazing strange reception from Kingston. Best I have seen ever.

Syracuse, Rochester, and a few others South of me all coming in
very strong and stable for a few hours.

Syracuse stations in the 90% range. NBC 3.1 included. WCNY PBS 24.1 too.
Rochester coming in too - antenna not even pointed at it.

Watched some awsome music videos on COOL TV.
Rolling Stones, Peter Frampton etc.
(Cool TV coming in on a couple of different channels / sub channels)

On another station, watched the last part of movie Hannibal (Lector) - Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, Ray Liotta

For fun did a RE-SCAN / ADD - to see if anything new would come in.

Got WXXI - new, never received that station before.
( I'll check later what channel WXXI is / where it is from).
[ note: found out later - WXXI is PBS out of Rochester ch 21.1 rf 16]

[ Setup is: Winegard 9032 UHF high gain yagi on 40 ft tower, with Research Communications UHF only low noise pre-amp. No rotor yet. Pointed straight south at Syracuse. ]

Picking up a couple of new stations for me this morning.

WJAC - RF34 - Johnstown/Altoona, PA
WATM - RF24 - Johnstown/Altoona, PA

WATM coming in at almost full strength.

Hints of others but nothing else decoding yet.

Nice to see some tropo in December!

I agree with bwiz2k3 that it's cool to see December tropo! I also picked up Johnstown's WJAC (RF34) and saw parts of "Whacked Out Sports" and WJAC's MeTV subchannel with cartoon Christmas specials.

I have never picked up WATM though! Heh...I know a few Digital Home users have gotten that one, so it's on my list of tropo "goals" to catch!

Left my digital box on RF15 when I went to bed around 7am (it was blinking but not decoding.) When I woke up, the PSIP of Clearfield, PA's WPSU were stored.

Hmphh - haven't seen anything really interesting in ages. Have been scanning, too. Most I got was WGRZ Buffalo yesterday, which is usually a hard station for my little Terk to get. I was hoping it was going to be a regular one, as the TV and antenna have been moved over a couple of feet to accommodate the Christmas tree, but no such luck. Gone again now.

Congrats on that tropo Goldielover!!! I wasn't quite as lucky, but I did get a few seconds of Rochester, NY's WXXI (RF16) which I thought was cool, especially for December! I also saw RF50 blinking, so I left my digital box on and Erie's WQLN decoded sometime after I went to bed (which was around 6:30am). Neat stuff!

I was scanning at about 8:30 a.m. when that lot came in. WKYC and WQHS were a little shaky, although still watchable, but the others were fine with no pixelation at all. Don't know how long they were around for - had to leave to get some stuff done. Haven't seen any Rochester or Syracuse stations for awhile, though.

I'm noticing some strong signal on CKVR. I'm actually getting partial decode on my KROSS antenna for that channel which has never happened before. It's usually stuck at around 15 to 20% on the meter for that one. It may be just the weather. Anyways if anyone has tried before and not had much luck getting it, maybe you might want to give it a shot now. It seems to come in for a bit then fades but then seems to come back. Not sure if this is the right thread for this but couldn't think of a better one.

Most likely some tropo conditions. I had an unusually strong signal from RF6, which for me is in the same general direction as CKVR last night/early morning.
