Wilspin:

LOL, yes with your setup, you could probably easily snag such a signal.

Some of us in the city receive our signals with attic installations (since it's feasible), but that makes most channels below 0NM serious long shots.

If HWP sometimes loses WBBZ with his setup at his location, I'm probably wasting my time with my attic CS5 at Yonge/Finch.

Ah Shmerpy I wish it was that easy. I can see and lock it on with TSreder but not on the TV/STB. Sometimes it's just off the edge of the cliff. I guess you cant just add a preamp with all the local stations around I just have a few.

Tropo again tonight - first night in a week or so. All over the place, too.

3.1 WKYC Cleveland
3.2 WNPLUS Cleveland
8.1 WROC Rochester
8.2 Bounce Rochester
51.1 ION Batavia
51.2 qubo Batavia
51.3 IONLIFE Batavia
54.1 WQLN-HD Erie
54.2 WQLN-S1 Erie
54.3 WQLN-S2 Erie
55.1 WBNX-HD Cleveland
55.2 WBNX-SD Cleveland
61.1 WQHS-DT Cleveland

Some have stayed all evening, some have been in and out. Not quite as many as I was getting when it was a bit warmer, but not that bad, either.

I haven't checked in the last few days, but tonight I had a look at WBBZ and it was coming "good" according to my TV. Strong, solid signal.

I was getting an analogue CTV on channel 11.
Does anyone know where that one is from?

I think you were looking at CKNY-TV-11 (Analog), near Huntsville
Max ERP: 357.5 KW
Coordinates: 45.328889, -78.965278

Interesting catch as channel 11 has only ever given me CKWS during tropo.

Awesome, I've never got any station from that area before.
Usually CKWS owns channel 11 in my area, occasionally I get CHCH.

I got some wicked tropo last night, WSEE from Erie PA was locked in and my antennas were not even aimed that way. My stack usually stays aimed east toward BUF, while Erie would be a south aim. ION and WNYO were booming as well.

I was getting ION from Batavia and PBS from Erie again last night, too. No Cleveland, though, not like the night before. Buffalo was being a bit flaky, WIVB and WKBN were at about half their usual strength, while WUTV was almost completely unwatchable. Haven't tried anything tonight - probably nothing much unusual about due to the weather.

I live in a ravine location near the junction of highway 401 and 404 in Toronto. I have difficult reception conditions due to terrain features. I recently adjusted my UHF antenna (aimed at Buffalo) and rescanned. To my surprise, I receive a very poor analog signal on channel 27 carrying Global network that can only be coming from the Cloyne repeater. The signal is consistently available but poor quality (unwatchable but listenable audio).

Until the US transition was completed, 27 was occupied by the transitional DTV for WNYB. Prior to the Canadian transition, SRC had channel 25 operating at high power from the CN Tower as well as 24 as the DTV transition channel. With this reduction of RF power around channel 27, the distant signal has become receivable.

Is anyone else receiving this station in the Toronto area? The reason I ask is that the Cloyne location also has SRC on channel 44 - co-channel with CityTv. It could explain some of the reception issues with City.

Analog 27 is very snowy but watchable hear.Only analog channel left.It has been receivable for the last 2 years since TCT moved back to channel 26.East of GTA will have co-channel problems on 44.

Are you sure your not receiving the analog Global signal, from just north of Cobourg? If your in Toronto, your probably only 65 miles from that repeater.

PrineLH,
You are correct as the IC database shows the 'City' as Peterborough. The Global station is 2.535 megawatts vs. SRC with 111 kilowatts so the interference level to City will be much lower than I originally expected. The situation will improve when City moves to the CN Tower in late October. If they do not have good reception throughout their planned coverage area, City could request a reduction in SRC's transmitter power as the analog station is non-compliant with the regulations.

Did CKVR in Barrie change something?

I have been struggling for weeks to pull this in stably and after putting up my third antenna attempt yesterday, I awoke this morning to 95% signal strength?

Yesterday I had 70-72%, which was 3 or 4 % higher than I had before the latest antenna build.

I am hoping they increased power and it is not just tropo ...

Ya CKVR is much stronger this morning .Its at 90% .I think its tropo. Its changes everyday for me.Somedays its down to 20% and dropouts constantly.

Some abnormal reception in Kingston Ontario, East end of Lake Ontario.

On Evening of Tuesday Sept 27, 2011 at approx 10 PM.

Did a re-scan "ADD" and some new far off stations appeared.
Never received these ones before - ever.

2-1 rf 33 - WGRZ NBC Buffalo NY 40% signal.
2-2

Picture, Sound and all for a short time. Getting Buffalo direct OTA from Kingston? Never before for me.

also:

4-1 rf 39 WIVB-HD - No picture or sound seen, but the Digital convertor box grabbed the station channel numbers and Call letters and added them the channel list. Web research shows that it's CBS out of Buffalo NY.

A web site shows Buffalo NY to Kingston Ontario straight line distance as 245 Km / 152 miles. Diagonally across Lake Ontario.

Weather conditions were strange last night in Kingston. Still no rain in Kingston, but humid in Kingston, and approaching weather fronts from the west and south with rain forcast for the next few days. A strange, abnormal south to north wind - not usual.

Definitely some weird weather conditions were causing this reception from Buffalo, from the other end of Lake Ontario.

The DX map shows current activity right over the GTA right now, so its probably why everyone is now seeing improvements...
