David T....THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I am having the same issues with Buffalo channels this evening, too. It's a comfort that it's happening to someone else!

Rochester coming in well for me tonight too. Getting WROC and Bounce on 8.1 and 82, also WQLN on 54.1, 2 & 4. It is the Buffalo channels I am having a hard time with tonight - with the exception of 26.1,2,3 & 4 (very flaky) they are all missing in action.

Jeremy Ion is just beyond the line of sight for most of the GTA and thus a slight amount of skip extends its range in warmer weather.I have been having the same issue with WPXJ for the last 15 years first with their analog ,now their digital signal.

Your experiencing the dark side of tropo. You lose the closer, but if you scan, you may get something further away. I've had WETM, RF18, from Elmira, NY, five miles from the Pennsylvania border all day today. I've also had Vermont in, quite a bit today, as well as Albany, NY. Happy hunting and keep trying out there.

Your lucky to be far enough away from our new 480i TVO and can see WTEN out of Albany. Ever since that TVO migrated to RF26, it's been dead on arrival, here in Belleville.

First time I've had that one.

i went from a personal record of receiving 43 dtv stations at 7pm to 13 in a matter of 1 hour.was receiving all Buffalo,Rochester,Syracuse,and Toronto stations.then an hour later,gone.

Tell me about it. This morning I had WSYR Syracuse take out CFTO on 9.1.

Am getting WSTM, WSTQ and CNY on 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 from Syracuse. I had a first for me with WKTV on 2.1 and 2.2 from Utica. Also had ION, QUBO and IONLIFE briefly.

Lost the Rochester and Erie stations I was getting last night, though.

This is on my indoor unamplified Terk. Wonder what I'd get with a more powerful antenna......

I lost almost all my Buffalo stations last evening, too. I got ION and 8.1 out of Rochester for about 5 minutes, then lost them too. Did a rescan this morning and all my regulars are back.

Holy guacamole! The 'evil tropo' was over the top last night!!!

As expected, WUTV-DT was nowhere to be seen here in the west GTA, but even WIVB-DT was dropping out at 9pm for about 10 minutes... it usually takes insanely hot weather for that to happen. :eek:

Clearly the cooler weather earlier in the week had a significant effect on the lake-to-land temp differential when warm air returned yesterday. :rolleyes:

Yeah it was pretty terrible. All my Buffalo channels were up and down all evening, going from perfect (80%) to nil in only a couple of seconds.

At least I had my Shaw Direct as backup.

Tropo from the west this evening. Picking up 61.1 WQHS Cleveland again tonight, as well as 54.1 WQLN Erie and 10.1 CFPL London. Not quite as many channels coming through from Cleveland this time - last time I got Cleveland I picked up six of them, and two Erie channels for good measure. Still, not bad for a little indoor antenna. Buffalo a bit flaky again tonight, too.

Some Tropo from the east earlier tonight. With my indoor UHF loop antenna(taped to 2nd floor window), received 3.1 WSTM(+subs) Syracuse, 8.1 WROC & 21.1 WXXI(+subs) from Rochester. Eash of these came in one at a time and then disappeared...did not get them all at once.

I'm getting TVO and SRC, but no CBC. Is some kind of weird Tropo going on?

CBC has been really hit and miss since the 31st. Never seen the other two here. CFTO is solid all the time with the antenna in VHF mode.

That's definitely weird, given that CBC and TVO are the same antenna :p
another channel 20 must be interfering for you that doesn't reach us.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. TVO was a little glitchy, so maybe CBC was just that much weaker that it wouldn't decode. The closet Full-power channel 20's are WFMJ in Youngstown, OH and WNYI in Ithaca, NY. Both are pretty far. Hmmm.

As of this post, TVO and SRC are gone. Weird.

Tropo is very strong out of the east tonight. Full slate of Ottawa locals plus WCAX out of Vermont. WPTZ out of Plattsburgh is also coming in strongly. Also see some strong signals out of Utica tonight. My close in signals are experiencing dropouts. Still attempting to nail some far off stuff, but nothing so far......scanning............

I saw CKWS from Kingston for my first time OTA last night, and CJOH-TV-6 visited for the first time in a long time.

But what seems really weird is later on in the evening FM 88.5 The Jewel along with some other foreign language station were both coming in on channel 6. I thought channel 6 was roughly 87.7 so would 88.5 be in range? I know the old analogue TV is on its way to a slow death.

Omni 2 out of London, Ontario is on channel 20, that could be the culprit.

Yesterday,the skies opening up big time!

I had 8.x,21.x,31.x,Rochester,NY in,then did a scan and got 2.x,4.1 Buffalo,then after another scan 7.1,23.1,HSN ch. 36,49.x

By afternoon,they were STILL there.

Later in the evening,did a scan and although my Tv locked 17.1 and 29,1,couldn't pull them in.

Then things got really wild!16.x -WPBS,Watertown,NY,14.1 OMNI2(briefly),Ottawa,43.1 CHRO,Ottawa(locked,but not there)....

Today,they're all gone,but it was nice to see OTA uncompressed HDTV!
