Ear4Sound 2011-08-31, 10:58 PM Last night I installed my homemade GH6n3 antenna in my attic in preparation for the transition. When I did a scan tonight I picked up these 3 channels briefly.
WWTI 50-1 & 50-2 (rf 21) Watertown, NY.
CKWS 30-1 (rf 30) Kingston, On.
They are both at the other end of Lake Ontario for me.
PrinceLH 2011-08-31, 10:59 PM Pretty funny, when you think that outside of the Kingston area, they're getting a 1080i HD signal and in Kingston, they're stuck with analog 480i. Really is surreal.
JJMoney 2011-08-31, 11:06 PM Add WQHS Univision Cleveland real 34 virtual 61
Looks like since the analog channels shut down I can get a world more of HD and tropo! I am located in Oshawa..Getting all of Rochester except FOX, all Buffalo, all Toronto-Hamilton, WQLN from Erie, PA, and all of Cleveland..

Goldielover 2011-09-01, 08:48 AM In addition to the Cleveland stations I posted above, last night I was getting WXXI from Rochester, WQLN and WJET from Erie. Not bad for a little indoor Terk in Toronto. First thing this morning I was still getting WQLN, but it was beginning to drop out and is now gone. However, I am getting ION and its subchannels. Not getting too many of the Buffalo channels this morning, though, nor am I getting even a hint of CBC CBLT. Was getting that loud and clear on 20.1 last night, too.
scarboroughota 2011-09-01, 09:11 AM Were the skies open? Did the wind blow the right way?
I rescanned my channels last night tocatch stations that have moved channles recently (city tv, etc) and low and behold....my system scans says 17 new channels found.
To my amazment I picked up every Rochester OTA station perfectly, I woke up this morning knowing it was too good to be true....and yes.....those stations are no more. I wonder if I put my antenna up higher on a mast would I catch those stations on a regular basis, they are nothing special in terms on content.. (mostly the same primetime stuff as buffalo but....why not have MORE)
Location: Scarborough Golf Club/Lawrence in Scarborough
Antenna: Chimney mounted Phillips antenna
:)
magnum 2011-09-01, 09:29 AM I agree. Tropo conditions were wild last night. Pulled in 40+ channels but they all disappeared this morning.
I am just a little east from your location with a 4221 about 30ft above ground.
Just happy to be receiving CTV and CHCH without any additional equipment.
obe67 2011-09-01, 09:36 AM I had the Rochester channels as well last night. It was good Tropo. They will come and go during the summer. I don't know if it is possible to get them in the winter and I don't know if a higher antenna would help. The transmitters are not only across the lake but I believe quite a bit inland. If anyone in the GTA can get Rochester consistently please post your setup and location.
cheers
Goldielover 2011-09-01, 10:01 AM Wild tropo last night. Was getting six Cleveland stations with my indoor Terk from mid-Toronto. Also a couple of Rochester and Erie stations. All gone now.
robman50 2011-09-01, 10:05 AM RF30 CKWS is repeater in Brighton.
Thanks for the report.... I was wondering how far that could make it.
It was 80% strong by the lake and 60% up the escarpment. :)
beachlover 2011-09-01, 11:14 AM all three of wxxi was so clear but today they are all gone
robman50 2011-09-01, 11:14 AM I also got 26-1 TVO, 21-1 to 21-3 WXXI and 51-1 ION to 51-3, 3-1 CKVR only came in the morning.
gizmo3141 2011-09-01, 11:18 AM 4 bay antenna 100' in the air facing SE here, and I can tell you the rochester/syracuse stations seem to be mostly a summer thing. In fact they can totally obliterate some of the weaker local channels like 10-1 CKVR from Barrie.
21-1 WXXI is a nice substitute for 17-1 from Buffalo when I can't get it, and so is WUHF for WUTV, but only on the right occasion...
Humbar 2011-09-01, 07:00 PM Getting WSTM and 2 sub-channels now that CBLFT has vacated CH24. WSYR also beaming in tonight too.
robman50 2011-09-01, 07:41 PM Most of Lake Ontario and Erie are in the light green area for the tropo forecast. What does that mean to me if I'm in that area? TV should be really good in the next few days?
Tropo ducting forecast for Friday, September 2 at 12AM (http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tr_map/fcst/eam012.jpg)
Humbar 2011-09-01, 08:43 PM I think some weird kind of reverse tropo was happening today. I noticed a lot of my Buff signals weaker. I was getting WBBZ this morning then everything deteriorated after that. Seems back to normal now.
skipper 2011-09-01, 09:30 PM Oddly I pointed my antenna towards the CN Tower this evening and am picking up 21-1, 21-2, and 21-3 clearly, even better than Buffalo channels.
Also, scanned once and got 8-1 (WROC) and 8-2 (a channel called Bounce) but the signal was weak and the picture never came up.
On the other hand I usually get 4-1, 7-1, 17-1 to 17-3, 23-1, and 49-1 + 49-2 consistently but tonight i'm only getting 4-1 and 7-1, with weak signal.
robman50 2011-09-02, 10:31 AM I am also getting 21-1, 22-2, 22-3 very strong and I got 31-1 WUHF and 31-2 CoolTV. Also I got 8-1 WROC and 8-2 Bounce. What is Bounce anyway? I turned it on last night and it was one of those colorful screens with the tone sound. I found 12AM last night was very good I got 34 channels. :)
