I had a couple stations show up last night that were new for me. WTAE-TV 4-1 was from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. WNEO/WEAO from somewhere in OHIO and I finally got a sniff from Cleavland for the first time this year which maps to Channel 3 on my converter. I find it very interesting watching the news and events from that area of the country. Too bad it only happens on rare occasions.

CHCH is the strongest I've ever seen it - 77% by my HDHR

It's normally in the 30's and below the cliff.
Normal tropo brings it to the 50's and borderline.

was kind of funny this morning i was up early feeding my newborns @ 6am and i thought maybe i'll look and see if the new WBBZ is up and running i haven't been able to get it for a few weeks, and sure enough it came in watched ME-TV for the first time looks good just wished it was stronger so it wasn't just a tropo channel... they said in there press release they have a new tower but from what i've read it appears there talking about there new old tower? Oh well was nice to get it.... Oh ya by the way saturday night from here in brantford i was getting 55 digital channels! toronto-hamilton, buffalo, rodcester, erie, and cleveland. was one of the best nights ever for me. Can't wait for sept. 1st

I was having fun with tropo last night at Yonge & Eg with my indoor Terk, north-east facing 14th floor antenna catching bounces off a nearby building. Even with my conditions, I was getting Syracuse, Uttica and Erie PA. Completely nuts.

Anyway, the massive Minto condos are nearby. Just curious: if I won the lottery and bought the south tower's 38th floor penthouse...with both south and east facing balconies about 380 feet up...what cities do you think I'd be getting on a constant non-tropo basis? I mean, a couple of balcony antennas 380 feet up...that's a heckuva antenna tower! :p

Point it 30 degrees upwards for the Martian hottie channel! Oh, this is gonna be deleted soon.

That Terk is a great antenna, I got the amplified version for a family member & it's excellent. For kicks I compared it to a GH6 with an RC preamp (indoors) & it did very well.

A few good pickups, during the last three days.

WTEN, RF26, Albany, NY. I get this one, from time to time.

WFXV, RF27, Utica, NY. This one is a difficult pull, here in Belleville, because we are within 25 miles from the Global repeater, near Brighton. It's only the 2nd time I've seen this channel in this area.

WENY, RF36, Elmira, NY. This is the third time that I've seen this channel and is a difficult pull, being close to the Pennsylvania border.

Currently receiving every station from Rochester, Buffalo, Toronto and Hamilton.

.. except for WBBZ :(
It's close, though. JUST below level needed for a lock.

Also just "went through the dial" on my HDHR - pulling in RF42 going above/below the cliff
Looks to be Binghamton.

Last night I did a scan on my TV's digital tuner and it gave me 31 stations. Normally I can catch 22 channels.
I don't know if it was something about the environment but the moon was full, the sky was clear and full of stars, also not sure if this would do it but the Perseid Meteor Shower was at the peak for this week. Any idea on what this 16-1 plus sub channels would be? On my TV I went to check the siginal strength of those stations and it was only from 1-9%.
Some Rochester stations did come in nice last night and I could watch them with out the drop outs happening. They where WXXI, WROC, and WUHF. I wonder from Beamsville, could I get the stations from Erie, Pennsylvania?

Funny you should mention that oddity.:p

I checked my old CRT/cm7000 setup last night. [an extra TV setup in my den] On the channel list I found all my usuals plus a batch from 20.1 plus a bunch of sub-channels with CBC 5.1's content on 20.1 and then there was a string of 20.2 to 20.99

All of the extra 20.x's showed 100% signal strengths but no sound or picture.

I rarely check that TV, so I don't know when that happened.

wxxi is on uhf ch 16. sometimes when stations are on the fringe of reception, they don't remap properly, and default to their rf-program #, instead of their proper virtual channel. Pretty sure their last two program #'s are -8 and -9 just like WNED in Buffalo.

Wow, interesting tropo this morning. I'm getting WBBZ here in mid-Caledon (Hwy 10 and Olde Baseline Rd) at 16 SNR on a HVR-2250. I'm using a 24" Loop antenna that sits behind a DBGH!!! I would have thought the DBGH would have blocked all signal???

This morning on both my TV's after I did an update scan for TVO on 28, I've been getting an analog Global broadcast on RF29. I've never seen this one before, and not sure where it is broadcasting from. It's pretty funny when I'm flipping the channel and seeing CH29 - Global, CH29.1 - WUTV(FOX), CH29.2 - TCN.

Where's that Global station from? I'm sure someone here knows.

*EDIT*
Found out it is either from Fauquier, or Harris Township.

Global channel 29 is from Oil Springs near Sarnia.
I was getting that this morning as well.

Ooopppsss  me bad, I was thinking CICA call letters and not CIII. Thanks for the correction.

Still, pretty interesting pickup considering I must be picking it up on a side lobe of my TO facing SBGH.

Hi folks,

Well after getting the CS 5 antenna (by the way purchased from the sponsor's of this forum so I did my little part in supporting it :) )

I pulled in a whole 5 channels this morning, WHAM (VHF), WHEC all Rochester. Both with sub channels. I know that this is tropo but it sure is nice having almost 50 channels :)

cheers

On the night of the 17th, I optimized my cheap Phillips indoor antenna for the TVO analog signal, hoping to see the analog turn off and figuring it was a pretty good bet to be in position to pick up the digital signal when it turned on.

To make a long story short, I was not able to rescan until last evening after work. I watched the progress bar and right around the point I expected it to pick up the one new digital channel, it picked up two, which surprised me because I hadn't heard any word of TVO carrying a subchannel.

It turns out, I was picking up WSYR, physical channel 17 from Syracuse. I also got a sniff of WUHF out of Rochester for my first time, and my first OTA taste of WUTV.

I would have watched the football game, but I was so distracted by not being able to pick up TVO that I found myself trying to reposition the antenna all night. I managed to get as high as 82% signal on it, but it kept fluctuating between 82 and 17% before finally settling at about 70, which on my Sony Bravia is about 5% short of being able to lock it in.
