Why are the thieves stealing Hummers ?? They are quite conspicuous ,and not exactly fun to drive. Is it for their parts ??

Or are they being shipped overseas ?

All of the vehicles on these lists are also the easiest to steal. I've made a career of repairing recovered stolen cars / trucks working at a GM dealer. Fixed numerous Chev / GMC trucks, some Hondas, Neons / Caravans (similar steering column) and Jeeps (older Saginaw-GM column or newer Chrysler column). All of these vehicles steering columns were easy to break and had no anti-theft system or the older design that simply relied on lock cylinder rotation. (no transponder embedded in key). High end trucks like the Escalade and Hummers are rarely recovered. While on vacation in Jamaica I saw a Chevy Avalanche with no door lock cylinder and a broken ignition cylinder ! (personally, I could steal a 2006 or older GM truck in less than a minute with only a screwdriver and a cordless drill !).

GM vehicles have always been easy to steal (despite claims by GM.) Locks in GM's 1960s era vehicles were so bad that they could often be stolen by using another vehicle's key. Just going to a parking lot with a GM key would provide several easily stolen cars. IIRC, that led to US government regulations regarding locking systems in cars.

I had a GM car that could be driven away by opening the hood (it just opened from the front), putting a jumper across the ignition terminals on the fuse block (which were labeled so they were easy to find) and pressing a button on the starter (conveniently provided by GM.) There was no mechanical steering wheel lock. It was never stolen but I doubt anyone wanted it either.

The GM SUV's are high on the list primarily for the parts, the rims/tires, navigation/dvd hud are all in high demand on ebay and other sites. Here's a nice video of a couple thieves in action, they don't even start the vehicle. gm-suvs-targets-for-thieves (http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/local_news/investigations/security-flaw-renders-cadillac-escalade,-other-ritzy-gm-suvs-targets-for-thieves)

I had a cop tell me once (off the record) that if your car is high end like that Caddy Escalade and its stolen in Ottawa area or the Eastern Townships, that there is a 80% chance it will be on a boat to the Middle East via the port of Montreal within 2 or 3 days. They can get 100's of thousands of dollars for it.( in many of the emirates for instance.)

I had my beloved (but errrr..not exactly high end..lol) 94 Dodge Shadow broken into 3 times and stolen once (recovered in Toronto). So easy to steal a child could do it. Chrysler products were popular to steal just because it was too easy. I put a homemade device on the front wheel and a club and found the homemade device through my windshield one morning...lol..somebody had no sense of humour, I guess and they slashed my tires as well. All this in a nice neighbourhood. Cops were zero help. Insurance company less so. Owning a car is hazadous and I have to have one for various reasons.

I feel sorry for people who have their car stolen. It's a violation and in many cases, a big expense to put it right.
