: Netflix on PS3
Chumley 2010-09-25, 10:51 PM We discovered "Drop Dead Diva" on Netflix.
What a great series!
First episode <pilot> had great pic quality.
Second episode had fuzzy pic quality and heavy pixelation.
I cautiously reccomend the service. It's hit and miss.
I am grateful for exposure to Drop Dead Dvia, though. I've never seen a series
quite like it. Obscure, sure, but compelling.
Jaygeetee 2010-09-26, 12:25 AM Jayoldschool, I use a Harmony one for my PS3 and programmed in the PS function as 'Power On' to quit Netflix. It appears that's the only way to back out.
Also I have tried several movies but have not found any that display 'Digital' audio...only stereo. Was wondering if anyone has experienced 5.1 audio with Netflix?
Canterbury Tail 2010-09-26, 07:24 AM I also notice that the categories are inconsistent between platforms. The PS3 has the least amount of categories to select from, whereas the PC and iPad/iPhone have the most. For example the category Anime & Animation isn't on the PS3 version. This is leading to it being the trickier platform to navigate through.
dezzpayne 2010-09-26, 08:36 AM There is a button you push to get more categories, including Anime.
I have watched a couple movies on Netflix this weekend. Was pretty impressed with the experience overall. Movie starts up within 5 seconds, never see any dropped frames and I'm using wireless on my PS3.
As someone mentioned in the other thread as far as selection goes you will be disappointed if you go looking for specific shows/movies but if you browse the selection you're bound to find lots of things of interest.
Eluder 2010-09-26, 10:30 AM I came across a 5.1 movie, I just don't recall what it was, I've only watched one move in full and that definitely wasn't the 5.1 movie, the rest I've simply been sampling to see quality.
It's a decent service, works pretty well, but simply does not have sufficient content yet.
dezzpayne 2010-09-26, 02:58 PM I am looking forward to a horror movie day. They have some really nice foreign shows. I glanced at one and it was extremely graphic and disturbing (a must see!)
cptcarter 2010-09-26, 04:20 PM I noticed Netflix just signed an agreement with NBC to air SNL and a bunch of other programming but my question is, will we see it in Canada? I'm thinking no because I know that Global airs SNL in Canada. Any ideas?
Chumley 2010-09-26, 05:25 PM If someone else owns the Canadian distribution rights for a program, you're not likely to see it air on Netflix Canada. That's why their offerngs are so sparse.
j0dest3r 2010-09-26, 06:41 PM I have to say PQ is really decent. Most movies only seem to have 2.0 sound however. If anyone knows a title in 5.1 I'd like to try it out.
Steve604 2010-09-27, 03:38 AM just signed up, not bad quality, but very poor selection,
I'm going to try it for a bit, but if they don't bulk up the selection I'll be cancelling
camilos 2010-09-27, 12:49 PM Tried it yesterday. Selection is not great. But for 8$ a month, its a steal for me. I usually rent 2 obscure movies a month on my xbox or ps3 at 6$ per movie. Now, I can just go through the netflix selection and find something to watch.
Next movies up for me : Fargo and Eight Men Out.
TV Series : Mad Men, Dead Like Me
For 8$ a month, I can't go wrong.
DSgamby 2010-09-27, 04:53 PM There are a lot of good movies if you haven't seen them.
Right now I am watching the PBS series regarding Auschwitz.
If they improve the selection by the end of trial, then I might stay on.
Canterbury Tail 2010-09-27, 07:14 PM I never even noticed they had Fargo. See you latter chaps.
Edit: Oh they don't.

They don't? I was sure I saw it. Sorry about that.
Next movie : Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Netflix needs a favourites/save feature badly.
Carlos J 2010-09-28, 08:03 PM A Man Apart is in 5.1 watching it now!

They do list the movie, but it's not available. They seem to list a lot so they can recommend similar, but the movie is only available if there is a length alongside them and an arrow (in search mode on the PS3.)
jayoldschool 2010-09-28, 10:13 PM They need a personalized favourites list, where I can click on things I want to watch eventually. Scrolling through, I find lots of stuff I want to watch, but I don't want to take that time every single time I want to find an interesting title. Something similar to Zip's and Canflix's request list would work.

Yes very much so. This is so missing. I want to be able to click on something to add to a list of movies I want to watch. The issue with finding things again is the categories aren't the same each time, there doesn't seem to be consistency in what is in them, and they aren't always all inclusive but just selective.
blueroomelectro 2010-09-29, 10:09 AM A bargain at 26c a day. Just got to watch my bandwidth cap.
Watched Ichi the Killer, Dune some Blackadder... Lots of fun.
camilos 2010-09-29, 11:06 AM I was bored so I started watching The Coupling. A British TV series I had never heard of before. It was actually pretty funny. Sort of like friends but actually funny and meant for viewers over 15 years old.
This is what I'm most excited about. Finding little gems like this.
Unfortunately, no IT Crowd :(
