No idea either. Maybe expanding the FM radio band downwards (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=125812) is on the front burner now... ???

I'm not sure that's the point. Random long wires (like those in headphones used for cell phone and MO3 FM radios work fine for to receive high power broadcasts.

You probably couldn't use VHF-Lo for the uplink, though, because the SWR would be too unpredictable.

115kW average ERP for CHCH in London? Wow. I'll be able to receive that here in Kitchener (if the contour favours my direction).

That's a healthy ERP for CHCH in London, even though it will be used on channel 51 (the higher the frequency, the higher the power needed). Nice to see.

Not likely. CHCH London's transmitter is in Alviston, 80 miles from Kitchener.

CHCH-DT on channel 11 directly from Hamilton is only 40 miles away.

That's great news! Another OTA DTV channel for London... with a good ERP level.
Hopefully Londoners can pick up CIII Global from Paris, ON at only ERP 4kW.

I've noticed that CHEK-TV in Victoria, BC is the only local station not currently broadcasting in digital. CHEK says they will be using Channel 49 when they changeover, but are they really going just switch from VHF analog to UHF digital overnight on August 31st?

Woo Hoo - another one for Lethbridge could be on the way!
CJIL-DT to stay on Channel 17, same tower, same antenna, same height.
According to the "list", the station has AP status
Peak power: 8600 watts, Ave power: 2800.

According to Industry Canada's database, Télé-Québec has had digital transmitters approved for Gatineau (channel 30, max ERP 300200W, avg ERP 116800), Rouyn-Noranda (channel 8, max ERP 19000W, avg ERP 9096W), Saguenay (channel 8, max ERP 84900W, avg ERP 35600W) and Val d'Or (channel 12, max ERP 22000W, avg ERP 13880). TQ has applied for a post-transitional DTV transmitter in Trois-Rivières.
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-230.htm
Their technical parameters do not conform with IC plans so they have to go through the full process.
The new post-transition digital transmitter, CIVC-DT, would operate on channel 45 with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 126,600 watts (maximum ERP of 290,000*watts with an effective height of antenna above average terrain of 398.1 metres).
The implementation of this transmitter would increase the potential viewership in the regional service area by 29.3%, from 556,430 persons to 719,555

Edit: There must be some kind of mistake from the CRTC as CIVC-DT is using the channel listed in the IC database and is not using more height or power than specified.

It is because of the following:

Ah, I see. I always that sort of thing was a CRTC issue, not IC. Thanks for pointing that out.

Today the CRTC released a number of decisions related to post-transitional digital transmitters:

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2011/2011-231.htm

CHCH is in the list, with an approval for their Muskoka transmitter (channel 23, 63000 watts, 300m EHAAT). But the attached zip file (https://services.crtc.gc.ca/pub/DocWebBroker/OpenDocument.aspx?AppNo=201016155) also contains their application for Ottawa (channel 22, 25000 watts, 216m EHAAT).

Looks like we are tentatively scheduled for a flash cut on CHCH Hamilton, Alvinston, Muskoka, Ottawa AND Metro14 on August 1. Of course we are at the mercy of transmitter, antenna and other equipment suppliers therefore I would mark this one down in pencil only..........

Thanks for the update Sparky2k. One question though, since CHCH-DT-1 (Ottawa) will be using ch.22 post transition and it is currently being used CBOFT-DT, how will you be flash cutting on August 1?

Will you use your transitional allotment of channel 33 temporarily?
Will CBOFT-DT move to channel 9 early?

Thanks for your help.
