Thank you. It recorded a blank show yesterday. Was wondering what was going on.

Yes - good news indeed. It seems that the CBC is attempting to provide similar coverage to the old Channel 9 service. Hence much greater power
is needed at UHF (507 KW ERP MAX). I hear that the new UHF antenna may be mounted around the old Channel 9 antenna indeed - possibly giving the new EHAAT (350.8 Meters).

I've been having reception challenges for about a week or so with CKEM. (CityTV) The symptoms were channel dropping/blank screen no audio for a couple of seconds and then coming back. The signal strength went from full to 0 every 15 to 30 seconds at a random interval. I am very close to the transmitter so it was a bit of a head scratcher. I figured something in my gear had gotten wet but was only affecting this one station. Today however everything is back to normal sort of. Audio channel 1 is defaulting to the descriptive video audio feed. Did anyone else experience this? How about the audio did you notice that as well?

Thx.

J

*update* audio is now out of sync too! :(

I've also been having signal drop-out with CKEM-DT Edmonton, and now I also have the descriptive audio feed. I thought the kids had been screwing with the TV!

Ok so its not my gear. Thx for confirming. I know the audio issue has been brought to their engineering team's attention a couple of days ago, but it may not hurt for us to phone them to complain somehow. I have no clue what their number is. I will check their website to see about a phone number.

I found their Edmonton number under the contact us section at the bottom of their website. They are fully aware of the issues and are working on it since Monday. She encouraged to call again though if things don't improve. If someone else does decide to call ask them if they have had many complaints. I am curious as to what they would say.

I watched a couple recorded TV shows off of CityTV yesterday and they did indeed have describe video. It was amusing, actually. ;) I had never seen/heard describe video before.

City TV Edmonton is well aware of the issue with the audio. If you look at the PIDS in the stream, they are simply swapped so when you tune in RF 17, it immediately defaults to descriptive video and you manually have to switch your TV to the next audio PID. Edmonton knows what the problem is but much like Global, the PSIP generation is done in Calgary and piped up to Edmonton. Convincing Calgary there is a problem is what they are working on at the moment.

Everything seems to be back in order now with CKEM. Audio is defaulting properly and drop outs were no longer apparent last night.

CTS-HD Calgary went off the air Saturday evening at around 11.00 pm. I saw no modulation but a pure R.F. signal
from my antenna at normal strength.

All seemed normal at 7.30 am today.

I am hearing that a 22 Kwatt transmitter will be delivered to the CBC's Calgary Bowness site possibly
translating to the newly reported ERP of 507 Kw according to the recent CRTC application.
I wonder if it is an IOT based transmitter?
Thanks to Mike FM for his recent post.

Power increase from 23,500 watts to 507,000 watts maximum ERP.
Height to be raised from 276.3 meters EHAAT to 350.8 meters EHAAT.

6.30 am - I see that this channel is radiating only colour bars this morning.
I guess that it won't be long before the transmitter is de-powered. :(

7.17 am - Colour bars have gone. The screen now contains only background noise so the transmitter
has been powered down or is feeding a dummy load.
CBRFT is no more. :(

Sad news for Calgary. I hope people in the City of Calgary complain and get their MPs involved.

Up here in Edmonton CTV and Global are both not operational ATM. Happened sometime during the early hours of the morning. Lightning perhaps??

*Edit* Oh, just came back on as I posted this.

CityTV Calgary appears to have been off the air since sometime last night. Can anyone else confirm?

FYI I live in the SE (just north of Prestwick) and signal strength is typically 90%+ through my Sony TV.

Thanks,
Visor

Confirmed: off the air in Tuscany. But still showing 100% signal strength.

I just called their main switchboard and they are working on the problem. As the woman I talked to said with a laugh "oh yes, we've been getting calls all morning, they're WELL aware of the problem!" ;)

CityTV Calgary's back up now... women's tennis is on the air. :D
