downbeat 2010-06-09, 02:59 PM Same here in Hillhurst/West Hillhurst. Usually a consistent signal from CICT in the middle of my signal meter but I get sudden dropouts from time to time, lasting from seconds to minutes. Probably local interference or intermittent multipath caused by neighbours and vehicles, but I can't tell for sure.
In any case, can't wait for their Harvard facility to come online — perhaps that will take care of these signal dropouts.
Mike FM 2010-06-10, 10:43 AM The third client up at Harvard will be Omni but not in the near future.
Rogers CITY CKAL-DT is all setup and ready to go, all they need is the paperwork. They are in possession of a 5k Rhode and Schwartz transmitter.
CICT-DT full power is coming soon...
Billsmith 2010-06-12, 12:29 AM Mike FM - Great news! Anyone have any idea what Channel Omni may opt to use? Also any word on Access Alberta?
stampeder 2010-06-12, 01:14 AM OMNI is alloted channel 29 for the transition, but look at the tower coordinates:
AB Calgary AL 29 CJCO-DT 510300 1140504 300.0 15000 560.00
AB Calgary AL 38 CJCO-PT 510354 1141255 325.1 84000 614.00

Access is alloted 51 for the transition:

Billsmith 2010-06-12, 03:12 PM Stampeder - I thought that the Omni Calgary transmitter was going to take up residence at the Harvard mast as suggested by Mike FM. But the posted tower data doesn´t match up with this! Since CityTV is there, it is logical that Omni will be there also. Their new channel may be 29 but based on CityTV´s new allocation of 49 instead of 52 I have doubts over future assignments including those of the CBC/SRC. Hence I also have similar questions about Access! ;)
stampeder 2010-06-12, 07:58 PM Yep, as always I offer my standard caveat about taking the IC database too literally.
Billsmith 2010-06-12, 08:53 PM Stampeder - Thanks for your well intentionned help anyhow! I do refer to the http://www.user.dccnet.com/jonleblan...a_TV_Stations/ website for quick references. It is very useful - much faster than ploughing through the IC database maize!
downbeat 2010-06-16, 03:15 AM @Mike FM: Have you heard any news on CICT-DT at the Harvard tower site? We're creeping past the middle of June and I'm anxious to get a stable, reliable signal from Global. My buddy in the deep northwest, who's unable to get Global DTV at all at the moment, would be quite pleased with the change, too. :)
downbeat 2010-06-18, 01:03 PM Well, that took no time at all. The CRTC has approved CFCN's application to move to Channel 29 with a max ERP of 220 kW @ 206 metres.
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2010/2010-390.htm
Billsmith 2010-06-19, 01:00 AM There was one intervention! I wonder by whom?
stampeder 2010-06-19, 10:38 AM If that intervention is not online yet it will be at some point. Interventions aren't necessarily negative, and apparently this one was not considered directly applicable to the issue at hand.
Mike FM 2010-06-20, 02:57 AM Hello Hello everyone.
As for Omni in Calgary, there already is infrastructure up at the Harvard site ready and waiting. They have a Rohde & Schwarz transmitter for CKAL-DT, then 3 racks for equipment and enough space for the second transmitter (Omni) to go on the right side of those racks.
It truly is a beautiful install.
I believe the work done by the fellow from Rogers (I won't give his name out because I don't know him personally) is a bar that has been set very high.
As for Global Calgary... it's coming... more sooner than later, that's all I can say.
downbeat 2010-06-20, 03:42 AM I've noticed bright, new marker lights flashing on the Harvard tower since Thursday, I think.
I hope that's a sign of good things to come. :)
roger1818 2010-06-23, 10:19 AM Well, that took no time at all. The CRTC has approved CFCN's application to move to Channel 29 with a max ERP of 220 kW @ 206 metres.

I find the last paragraph very interesting:
6. The transmitter must be operational at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 31 August 2011, unless otherwise authorized by the Commission.
CTVgm applied for a post-transition amendment, but it looks like the CRTC wants them to make the changes sooner than that.
downbeat 2010-06-23, 12:56 PM That's just boilerplate CRTC-speak.
And besides, there is no reason for CFCN to take an exceptionally long time for this.
They've already got a UHF aerial at the top of their mast. All they need to do is swap out their transitional, low-power transmitter for the high-power one and they're all set to go.
(They might even have had one on order already, although I can't say for sure.)
I'm patiently standing by, ready to re-tune from 36 to 29. :)
P.S. Global (CICT) and Citytv (CKAL) will quite likely be using their final DTV technical parameters far ahead of the transition deadline.
Billsmith 2010-06-23, 02:09 PM CTV - CFCN-DT - still waiting to hear of the changeover dates - I've not heard anything so far. But I imagine that they may keep both transmitters and use the low power one (100 Watts) as a standby retuned for channel 29. Then it's a case of simply changing from one to the other via the combiner. AFAIK they have a 10Kwatt unit on order but I don't know the brand yet? CICT-DT switch-on is very soon now! CityTV are still awaiting CRTC approval but are all setup with their post-transitional arrangement with their 5Kw Rohde & Schwarz transmitter. Anyone heard about CBC/SRC??
Billsmith 2010-06-28, 12:33 PM Has anyone been looking for the CICT-DT at full power yet. It was supposed to be turned on any time towards the end of this month? :)
Still in the Gulf of Mexico stuck without transport! :(
downbeat 2010-06-28, 01:10 PM No apparent change on CICT-DT 41 for me at this point …

Mackerel 2010-06-28, 10:44 PM No change here at about 28 km away
