tvlurker 2011-08-05, 05:29 PM All I know is, 36, 38, 40 and 42 are currently licensed to go digital by the FCC.
CISA is still set to go to 36 digital when the new translator is installed. I'm told late summer but this is ONLY if KRTV from Great Falls doesn't interfere with the signal at that height.
We all know that CBC Lethbridge will cease to exist on channel 10 and not transition to digital so who will go on 38 digital on top of Mt. Royal is up in the air come September 1st.
I'll share more info as it comes.
according to TVfool, there is a CBC LPRT near Coutts that comes in only 5 dB worse on the top of Mount Royal than the main channel 10 transmitter does. It's on 4 instead of 10, so might need a new receive antenna, but there is a marginal signal on channel 12 analog available from Etzikom, as well.
Mike FM 2011-08-05, 07:17 PM In response to Tvlurker:
The gentleman who takes care of those translators would rather look at gaining the legal ability to translate something else in digital from Lethbridge.
example: CFCN-5 or CKAL-1
j0dest3r 2011-08-06, 11:58 AM CKEM is down ATM. Last night after being woken up by the thunderstorm I decided to tune in and found it off the air. The analog 51 was still active then, but this morning it is down as well.
j0dest3r 2011-08-07, 11:18 AM Wow off air continues... It's been more than 24hrs now.
Mordak 2011-08-07, 09:41 PM Yup. Kind of brutal that City is still down. I tried phoning their switchboard to see what was up, but they appear to be closed for the weekend..
downbeat 2011-08-07, 10:11 PM I wonder if the outage is scheduled, seeing how OMNI will soon be switching over to the same transmitting facility used by CKEM-DT.
Mordak 2011-08-07, 10:46 PM Could be a scheduled outage, but it seems an odd time to schedule an outage starting in the middle of the night at the start of a weekend - especially with both their digital and analogue signals being out. But who knows? Hopefully things return to normal tomorrow morning. If not, we can always call and ask.
j0dest3r 2011-08-07, 11:19 PM I sent them an e-mail yesterday, no response as of yet. I would think they would want it operational again for the beginning of the week.
Mike FM 2011-08-07, 11:49 PM Yesterday, the DT transmitter on 17 was transmitting open carrier but no data. Today, no carrier, no pilot. It's like the transmitter went into a protection mode.
I will second the notion that they are preparing for the OMNI addition via fibre to the Acheson transmitter site.
j0dest3r 2011-08-08, 08:14 AM CKEM-DT is back up around 11 I noticed and no more analogue
Billsmith 2011-08-08, 09:06 PM CTS - Calgary Channel 32 analog is now off the air. I suspect that this must be due to the CKCS-DT cconversion being in process. CJCO OMNI is very weak here also (noise has appeared on the screen). Perhaps CJCO is on reduced power in readiness for the CJCO-DT to come on air at the Harvard mast.
Billsmith 2011-08-08, 09:15 PM Calgary CKCS analog has gone off the air (noise on vision and sound).
Calgary CJCO analog has gone very weak (noisy picture).
Possibly in preparation for the Digital services???
Billsmith 2011-08-08, 09:21 PM There is no more signal from the Pre-transitional transmitter on Channel 36.
There was a screen advising re-scanning for Channel 29.
teamcaptain 2011-08-08, 09:50 PM It looks like 5-1 (CBC) is off the air, even though the analog one is still there.
j0dest3r 2011-08-08, 11:21 PM Im still getting both.
Billsmith 2011-08-09, 04:15 PM CKCS-DT will be back up on the air on Thursday at the latest on channel 32. CTS report that they have received quite a number of calls. The analog service went off the air yesterday afternoon! Good News for CTS digital and HD viewers! :)
Billsmith 2011-08-09, 04:25 PM CJCO channel 38 is currently is on much reduced power using a temporary transmitter and equipment. The changeover to the Harvard mast is currently in progress! The digital service should begin during the latter part of the next two weeks.
bukester 2011-08-09, 05:12 PM City TV-CKAL may be down. Having trouble getting it this aft. Maybe they are working on the tower for Aug 31?
j0dest3r 2011-08-09, 05:24 PM OMNI for tomorrow is what I understood.
Billsmith 2011-08-09, 05:35 PM CKAL-DT Channel 49 real is currently down according to my Hauppauge tuner. Channel 5 CKAL analog is OK. Possibly due to work going on for CJCO-DT installation and corresponding antenna/combiner connections.
