tanker - Agreed - low level and distorted sound on CBRFT-DT. Yes - probably a local issue. Have you tried the local CBC studios here in Calgary (403) 521-6000 or Edmonton (780) 468 7500 ? You may be transferred to audience relations in Toronto at some point. I believe that only the security guard will be available outside normal business hours. Good Luck!

I contacted the CBC Calgary studios and the receptionist, after telling me to call my cable company - Hmmmmmm, then claimed that the sound problems on Channel 16 CBRFT are due to the CBC converting to digital signals. When I questionned her further, she claimed that ALL signals will be switched to digital including CBRFT Channel 16???? At this point, there was no reason to believe anything that she had said!

Ask to be transferred to the Head of Engineering instead.

Billsmith -- just did the same an hour ago (dialed the Calgary phone # you provided). My wife did the talking [in French] and after the call was ended, she told me the gentleman said that we needed a converter box and otherwise it would be like this until end of August.

This was such a non-sensical answer that I called back; got the same guy who then gave me a CBC toll-free # 1-866-306-4636 (their digital conversion sub-contractor ?). They were much more knowledgeable and took down the information; said they were doing work converting to digital, and would look into the audio malfunction. They're supposed to get back to me.

I can't believe my wife and I are the only two persons watching CBRFT 16 on a regular basis, out of a Calgary francophone population of 10,000+. Doesn't bode well for French digital access on Sept 1, or ever

Got a call 15 minutes ago from a technician at the CBC tower location (85th St. & Old Banff Coach Rd.); asked us to check channel 16; now all-OK. He didn't describe what corrective action he took, but did say that they do depend on listeners/watchers(?) to advise them when problems occur.

Thanks for the tips.

Thanks guys. I was about to call CBC/Radio-Canada about this but you guys beat me to it.
Audio levels seem normal here, too.
So that makes a minimum of a half dozen of us who watch CBRFT over the air :)

Nope - I believe that there are really many more viewers but they are much to polite to complain. The problem is that if no-one complains the SRC/CBC will think that there are indeed 6 viewers at least watching channel 16 in Calgary!!

Truly sad that the French CBC stations in Calgary and Lethbridge are going off air Aug 31st 2011. :(

Well, I am still on cable so don't really watch analog OTA as the signal are not what I would expect. Otherwise, we would have been 7 :D
Just waiting for one more DTV to drop cable. Anything we can do to convince them to go DTV at Radio Canada ? Other than satellite, there are no HDTV French channel in Calgary.

Downbeat -- we spoke too soon; 6_1/2 hours later and the sound is dropping off and the distortion is back on the high notes. Maybe you guys can talk tech with those responsible.

As of now, CBRFT-TV audio problems seem to have been fixed.

Anyone know what the status of OMNI is? I would have thought they would have switched by now considering CKEM-DT has been baked for quite a long time already.

Shaw's website today announced that CBC Toronto will be replaced by CBC Calgary HD on cable on April 1. I wonder if that means their digital transmitter will be up and running by then.

snap01 - By all accounts the CBRT-DT transmitter should be powering it's antenna this week!

j0dest3r - I heard that OMNI will be performing a flash cut! I am not sure how big of a "flash" or when will be the "cut".

Still no sign of CBRT-DT at my location. Been checking daily, all week. Any news on progress/delays at their transmitter site?

Same here with CBXT-DT been scanning every day still no signs of life. Although I don't think anyone stated it would be coming on-line this week, but April 1st is still fast approaching.

Can't get in touch with Sherwood Park but I remember them saying the microwave link was the last step. If anything, I hope they're still able to launch on the first.
Spectrum analyzer is still showing a flat line from 638-644 MHz.

Would have been nice for them to go live in time for the battle of Alberta tonight. ;-) Oh well I guess I need some patience lol...
