I'd like to know about Paris, Ontario (CIII)

The Shaw website only indicates "after August 31, 2011". As this station will be using the same channel post-transition, I surmise they'll wait until the transition date to avoid disruption of service to current analog viewers.

In discussion here on DH, a technician involved in configuring the transmitters for Global indicated that the Paris station will be able to be remotely cut over. Thus I imagine a remote tech somewhere will throw a switch on the transition date.

Not wanting to disturb analog viewers doesn't explain Ottawa, where they are also using the same channel post-transition, but plan to cut over "Mid-August (Date TBC)."

If Ottawa is launched earlier, it could be that staff are required onsite to effect the switchover. Of course we'll find out in approximately a month, won't we? ;-)

Same thing for CKMI-TV-2 - a small repeater for Sherbrooke. The plan is to do it in "Mid-August" as well. It's on ch 11, and comes in okay with rabbit ears at my cottage (and my neighbor, with a 4221 pointed towards the states direction, gets it better than my 4228 pointed in the same direction).

Given this, I don't think you can say they won't be "disrupting analog viewers" by going early. Myself, I've seen a total of 0.5 PSAs.

By the way, does anybody know of any revised dates for stations that are "TBC"?

I at least appreciate the fact that they are getting it done sooner than later; waiting for everyone else on Sept. 1 is going to be agonizing.

Forgive me if it has already been mentioned previously in this thread, but I just scanned my channels yesterday and now get Global 22.1 in HD. Great picture! Strong signal. I really hope this is a sign of things to come for the rest of the Canadian stations in HD!

Yep, CIII-DT's transmitter on 22.1 in Stevenson, ON is being discussed in the following thread:

Global Regina (CFRE) will flash-cut to digital Wednesday morning August 10th, per this story:

Why does the story ask viewers to direct questions to their cable provider? Seems odd.

It could be that Access isn't ready to deliver CFRE in HD right off the bat. I know SaskTel Max says the local stations' HD feeds should be available in the fall.

Expect CTV to follow suit ASAP. I was on both sides of that rivalry. Hope it all goes well for them.

CFRE-TV (Global Regina) flash-cut to 11-1 1080i HD and 11-2 SD digital broadcasting yesterday. They didn't warn the local cable provider or SaskTel so both providers are having issues getting the new HD signal on their services. I understand some small rural cable systems were getting Global over the air and they will be without until ATSC tuners can be installed in those locations. Oh well.

On the plus side, my attic antenna, despite pointing in the wrong direction, seems to get nearly noise-free reception of the new signal and I suspect some upgrading of old 1970s RG59 cable will solve that problem. (The long run is new RG-6.)

According to the Leader-Post the cable providers are negotiating to carry the signal. I don't know how much warning they needed; they should have known this would happen within the next three weeks. I know SaskTel Max already has channels set aside for the local HD channels.

Nobody expected Global Regina to flash-cut to digital on August 10. I think they were expecting it to be at the end of August, and with a few days' notice.

Neither SaskTel nor Access yet has a digital feed with the new signal from Global. I suspect they'll have to get it OTA via ATSC for now. And some rural parts of Saskatchewan got their cable feed of Global via a capture of the analog broadcast, so that means there will be some outages of Global on rural cable systems in southern Saskatchewan until ATSC receivers are fully deployed.

Everyone expected this, just not yet. This is one of the earlier flash-cuts that has happened. Most of the other deployments in advance of the date (like Saskatoon) have been on a different channel so that the analog signal has continued.

CIII-HD 22.1 CIII now on the air, shows up at 1080i but no guide info as yet. In east Windsor I need directional heading to pick her up.

mkenney, what does "directional heading" mean? I'm in the West end, and can't pick it up with a Terk 55...

Likewise,.. what does "West end" mean?

Just making a point about directional comments:

It is pointless to post on a forum that pretty well covers most of north america if your location is unknown. Please add your location to your signature line, so your post will then make directional sense.

cheers! ;)
