: CTV & CTV2 DTV Transition Status (closed)
Jase88 2011-01-24, 07:10 PM I'll likely have to put my "beast" back up (16' Delhi VIP307SR VHF) to catch CFPL out of London.
The VIP307SR can pick up CKVR on channel 3 from Barrie here at my QTH in Kitchener. However, it looks like they're (CKVR Barrie) going with a directional antenna for channel 10, and their radiation pattern won't favour Kitchener's direction. Which, all things considered, is likely good. This way I won't have as much London and Barrie co-channeling.
rob50312 2011-01-24, 07:49 PM I made a submission on CTVs application in regards to proposed low power and reduced coverage. Not expecting anything to come of it.
ScaryBob 2011-01-24, 08:12 PM [Channel 10 London's] radiation pattern won't favour Kitchener's direction.
Judging by the antenna contour map I've seen, the strongest lobe will be in Kitchener's direction. The coverage pattern trails off before it reaches Kitchener though. Much the same thing happens with 13/Kitchener and 6/Paris in London. Terrain plays a big role.
I also wonder if CFPL will get any interference from WOIO on the shore of Lake Erie.

My post wasn't clear: I was referring to CKVR Barrie, and not London CFPL. I agree that London will likely come into Kitchener better than Barrie.
PanaMark 2011-01-25, 07:09 AM I also wonder if CFPL will get any interference from WOIO on the shore of Lake Erie.
It is more like WOIO is affected currently by CFPL. Many people on the shores of Ohio are dealing with it.
ScaryBob 2011-01-25, 10:03 AM CFPL's ERP is being chopped from 325,000w analog to 10,000 watts digital in the direction of Lake Erie. (ERP is maximum 45,000w in other directions.) That will alleviate the problem of interference for the south shore. The north shore will likely lose reception in places, especially in Port Stanley which is in a river valley and has a large hill to the north.
BTW, the coverage map looks like it is for a non-directional antenna. The post transitional approval is for a directional antenna and has a different contour.
stampeder 2011-01-26, 01:28 PM The following thread is for discussing your ideas, wishes, frustrations, etc. about /A\ stations, including possibilities of sub-channels, etc.
Future of the /A\ stations (https://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=121912)
At this point we need to get back to the purpose of this thread, which is about keeping updated on the technical status of the DTV transition of CTV and the /A\ networks and stations as it occurs.
Kraven 2011-01-26, 05:43 PM Any news on the CTV (CFCF-12) status in the Montreal area? Last I read they were approved to broadcast early in time for Superbowl 45 on Feb 6th. Also, anyone think a sub station would be included?
Cheers, K!

I don't think a sub-channel would be included (unless it's just an SD copy of the HD channel), since the application was approved by the CRTC on an "expedited basis". (That's why we see it in the Industry Canada database before anything has been published on the CRTC website.) A new sub-channel would probably warrant a CRTC public process.

I don't see the need for an SD copy of the HD channel since they already have an analog broadcast. As for other programming, I don't know what they would be allowed to put on it even if they had time for a public process. Regardless of the reason, AFAIK no Canadian stations are currently using sub-channels.
wilspin 2011-01-28, 07:38 PM Good news on CTV Peterborough 35. When would i expect it to be live?

I think they were applying for different contours (correct me if I'm wrong) so they will come out in a call for comments?
Emerald_Boar 2011-02-02, 07:04 PM Hi cm023,
you just have a few days to comment on CFPL proposal.
Supposely from what I read. A copy of the 'proposal' can be found at the TV station. Or you can wait until the 'proposal' is posted on the crtc website. It may be wise to call CFPL to find out how long you have to comment on the DTV conversion (Or a copy can be viewed there?)

stampeder 2011-02-10, 02:33 AM The status of CFPL-DT 10 London changed from AP (approved by the CRTC) to AU (authorized by IC) today.
Jase88 2011-02-14, 12:31 PM I heard from CKCO today. They confirmed that they will indeed be broadcasting in 1080i. The transition to digital may occur prior to August 31, but no date has been set as yet. Further, there are no plans to utilize sub-channels for this station.
downbeat 2011-02-14, 05:00 PM Several off-topic posts on DTV subchannels moved to the following thread:

CKY HD (Winnipeg) is currently offered through MTS Ultimate TV. Is there a confirmed date when CKY HD will launch OTA?
