Well so far so bad. I lost CTV and CHCH but I wonder if it's pre amp related. I have a Channel master 7775 and 4228 antenna but get nil for a signal. I do get the CTV2 but it causes one of the tuners on my computer to crash when I try to tune it in (weird). If I have to climb that tower again to make an equipment change I think I'll have a heart attack.

I'm 20 km away from the CN tower and I'm picking up 9.1 with a good, steady signal with a CM4221 pointed at Buffalo. It's a very pleasant surprise for me as I was expecting to lose this channel with my current set up. BTW, I tried the "Stealth Hawk" antenna too and it pulls in the channel with a shockingly strong signal without any amplification. It appears that the SH works as advertised for hi-VHF!

CTV-2 (CKVR) also surprisingly came in this morning. I'm receiving it through the 4221 which is facing pretty much 180 degrees from Barrie. The signal has been steady, albeit weak. It may only be a Tropo situation although it's entirely possible that Tropo may hurt the reception of this channel more than it helps with a Rochester 10.1 being available as well.

I hope they aren't at full power yet. As mentioned, I had better signal when they were testing on the 23rd for both CFTO and CKCO, which leads me to believe that they aren't at full power yet (though I'm at work right now so I can verify if the levels have increased).

The good thing about CKCO though is that I have the option of DIY'ing a proper channel cut Yagi, which in theory should reliably lock that channel (since I'm just on the cuff using my Scatter Forager antenna).

You'll have to keep re-scanning. Channels will be moving around, turning on/off and fluctuating power throughout the day.

I noticed this morning that usually reliable channels would come in and out so the timing of your rescan might get different results

Once I have done a complete rescan on my older tuner, then it will accept a manual addition as it seems to clear any previous memory of that channel.

After the rescan for 9-1 this morning, I was missing 19-1 and 29-1/2. About 5 minutes later, once the signals came back, the tuner accepted a manual addition of these channels.

CFTO 9.1 coming in very clear in Waterdown before 09:00 this morning. Signal strength was 100% and quality 75-80%. I did have to drop the bunny ears horizontal on my indoor Terk to get good reception on this one.

The kids have the cable switched back on (we're on our 30 day countdown to disconnect Cogeco) so can't see what it's doing right now.

With my CM 4221 (UHF!) no CFTO - I have done several rescans this morning but no luck. Used to be a nice stable digital signal on Channel 40 (virtual 9.1). Guess I will be watching the US signal for most shows now! How about those ad revenues?

Also lost CHCH when they transitioned to VHF. Any technical reasons those stations switched to VHF AFTER large parts of the GTHA OTA community bought UHF only antennas?

P. S. No sign of Barrie's CTV 2 either

Update 1:44: After a complete rescan (rather than add digital channels on my SONY) CFTO is now up and running - on physcial channel 9 on teh CM 4221!

Surprisingly, CTV is coming in on my 4 bay bowtie @ 100%, but now I'm getting data errors that are showing up as blocks on the image and interuptions in the audio stream as well. Probably 'cause I'm on the 10th floor facing east, and I'm relying on a reflection from a building to the east of me to get the weaker signals from the CN Tower.

Very, very surprised to be getting CTV at all!

No CKVR though, even with the antenna pointing north.

I'm in east Scarborough, on the verge of Pickering...:o

I don't know if it's the weather but I get CTV2 perfectly.

JohnMcKeynes,

Consider a pre-amp. Channel Master 7778.
Antenna height and aim. Possibly change/add antenna

These frequency changes have always been part of the plan. This forum has been an active forum for years partially thanks to tonnes of speculation about how the return of these channels to vhf would impact people that bought uhf-only antennas.

no signal aggh

That doesn't help anyone out. What do you mean no signal...on which channel, what's your setup, did you get a signal, or is this the first time tuning in without rescanning your TV.

People, please give more info in your posts...not only for us to help, but if any CTV engineers are monitoring this forum, then they can get an idea of what areas are being affected and what they may have to do to tweak their system.

To whomever lost signal please be sure to answer these questions.

Did you have signal on RF 9 Analog prior to Aug 31 2011?
How did the picture look? If quality was bad then your setup needs to be fixed or a proper antenna needs to be purchased.

The purpose of this transition isn't to add coverage but to replace the analog station. RF40 was only temporary and was known for ages it would be switched to VHF-Hi

Well had ctv 2, formally Access, for two whole days in Edmonton area. No digital transition for us. Not liking the snow. Too bad. Never did like the fact that CTV took over access tv.

CTV2 Edmonton

According to the newly revamped Alberta Prime Time website it is still available. http://www.albertaprimetime.com/

Too bad we know better.

Those among us who live in Alberta and who have lost OTA access to CTV Two can politely let station management know that we'd like to see it back on the air. Otherwise, they'll think they can get away with just turning off the signal without warning.

That would be a good idea and my next question is do they have any subsim rights?

I was thinking till the last moment CTV would change its mind and keep the station transmitter going. CRTC gave an extention to CBC French here in Calgary, I bet they would have done the same for CTV2 (Access)

I think they tried, but I am shocked to hear CBC French to still be OTA analogue in Calgary. I sent my contact at CTV that information in case he can use it to get permission to turn the transmitter back on.
