I just tried using a Terk FM antenna as an indoor TV antenna, and it picks up CTV with perfect signal. (???)

I'm just barely getting in CFTO. The signal strength jumps around a lot. And I had to really fiddle with the antenna to find a spot it would even pick up the signal. They really need to turn up their signal strength.

Chengbin,

Something is wonky for you.

Either you have something such as buildings/trees affecting your reception or your antenna has a fault. Your OTA reception has been a challenge since you went OTA several months ago.

That Terk experiment, to me, indicates that there might be a fault with your 4221hd. My 4221hd unamplified outdoors directed at WGRZ still pulls in CFTO CTV Toronto at full strength.

Using 4221HD vertical stack. 9-1 on VHF9 comes in very strong. Needed to rescan for it to come in.

In Brampton with attic install DB8/ CM7777, after
a rescan, getting CFTO at 85% ...I'm really happy
as I was worried about this one. :)

CTV channel 9 is not coming in at all for me.I am about 10 minutes away from their studio, maybe I should go there and watch it. Have a tower, antenna, amplifier and rotator. My samsung has only scan, not scan for additional stations. Will have to wait for better weather rather than lose my Buffalo and Rochester stations.

Original CM 4228 pulling in 9-1 CFTO loud and clear. Also 13-1 CKCO

No problem pulling in RF9 with my existing setup (CS4 and CS2).

My HDHR3 reports 100% strength, 96% quality and 100% symbol.

I don't think anyone cross-posted here from the Ottawa thread, but CJOH-DT (CTV) and CHRO-DT (CTV2) are up and running in Ottawa. CJOH flash cut around midnight and was only down for about 5 minutes. CHRO shut down analog at midnight and was up by 2:30.

Okay, did a rescan and channel 9, CFTO is back. Gettting 25 but now 25-1 is gone. Not that important, but I do watch it occassionally. Thanks for the response.

CKCO is coming in _VERY_ strong for me here in London. Its actually one of my strongest stations!

You'll have to keep re-scanning. Channels will be moving around, turning on/off and fluctuating power throughout the day.

Thanks for the info about rescanning today. Actually pulled in a few more stations from Rochester (42 and 67-1,2,3,4) but sadly still have lost CHCH 11. Seems wrong that I can get all those US staions but not Hamilton.

My Terk HDTVi is receiving CFTO loud and clear. The shutting down of their flame thrower analog signal means I am now getting my first sniff of WGRZ 2 and subchannels. Sadly, not enough to get a good lock on. They're well out of range for the Terk, so really need something a bit more powerful. Still, glad to get CFTO no problem - I was a bit worried about how the digital signal would reach me given all the high rises around here.

What is the ERP of CFTO ? Can anyone confirm ? i thought i read it was going to be in
the neighbourhood of 11kw - 12kw, but i find this hard to believe. I have a UHF antenna
(attic installed DB8/CM7777) and before i was getting 55%-58% when CFTO was truely
on the UHF band. Now, CFTO has moved to RF 9.1 (correct ?) and i'm getting 85% !
...and supposedly at a lower power (is that right?) ...no, i'm not complaining :) CBLT at
100kw (around that ?) also registers at 85%, so how can i be getting CFTO so good ?
... or is it a characteristic of VHF to penatrate into the attic better than UHF ?
I hope it stays at this power and not just for transistion. I wonder if some are not
getting it because it's overloading their tuner ?

Presently surprised I'm receiving CKCO-DT in Stouffville with VHF antenna aimed in that direction, didn't expect that one, unless it could be a tropo thing.

In Brampton with a CM4228 I'm getting a solid 98% on 9.1 CFTO which is great because I get never get the UHF signal on 40.1 for some reason. Also I'm picking up CKVR-DT from the backside at around 54% but it's not stable. I would either need a rotor or a dedicated antenna facing north for proper reception.
