yeah I wasn't sure about the channel allocations. I did try to get an answer from the CRTC about the double channelling, but all I got back was the standard "Things happen Aug 31st, you may need new tv or cable/sat subscription, blah blah blah"
So nobody read anything as far as I can tell.

Typical canned response eh!

FYI: CFPL in London began their DTV antenna installation yesterday... there's a pic in today's London Free Press.

It's great to see work getting done for the August 31 DTV transitional deadline.

Why do they need a new antenna? They are staying on CH-10

There digital license is for a directional signal away the U.S. thus they now need a directional antenna

I still wonder if CTV/Bell will really and truly change to digital anytime soon here in the Ottawa area. I can't recall the website, but all of the channels were slated for conversion by August 31st except for CTV and "A" here in this region. It still shows TBD for those channels.

Is their a nearby CH10 in use in the U.S.?

Yes. The purpose of the directional antenna is to permit higher power toward Kitchener/Waterloo without causing interference to existing US stations on channel 10.

WOIO in Cleveland uses RF channel 10.

Oh they'll switch by the deadline. No way CTV would risk it's sim sub rights on Ottawa cable.

Now that's interesting. So if the stations don't all go digital OTA they'll lose their sim-sub rights?

They have to have some sort of OTA Delivery in place for the region where they impose a sim sub. Since analog must shut off in Ottawa by Aug 31, either CJOH-DT and CHRO-DT must start by then, otherwise Rogers has no legal requirement to honor their sim sub requests.

That's pretty smart for a change. The government did something right. Thanks for that info James039.

CFPL-TV is Off-Air tonight. New Antenna install must be underway.

CFPL-FM 95.9 is Off-Air as well, must be to allow work on the new antenna. CHST-FM on the tower as well is On-Air.

First time FM96 has been off air this long in recent memory, allowing me to listen to 96.1 WHNN from Michigan clear and in Stereo tonight.

Thanks for the info CM023, and thanks for putting your location in your profile. It really helps to know where people are from with this stuff. :-)

Today I got a response from CTV:

CTV Ottawa will be switching to a new digital transmitter for September
1st.

The new transmitter will be on Channel 13 so you will be able to watch
programming over ATSC for September.

I've heard talk of CTV TWO from Toronto beginning August 29th. I can't find any info about CTV TWO Toronto being available OTA.

Is there a CTV TWO channel allocation for OTA? or is it going to be 9.2?

CTV 2 for Toronto is CKVR Barrie. They'll be up on CH-10 off air on Sept 1.

I thought CTV Two was /A\ from Barrie.

The Toronto area will be served by CKVR Barrie in HD initially (channel 10). An application is pending by CTV2 for rebroadcast transmitters in Hamilton and near Niagara, likely going into operation next year.
