The Blu-ray version of David Lean's classic war drama based on the Pierre Boulle novel is now up for pre-order on Amazon!

In an early announcement to retailers, Sony has revealed 'The Bridge on the River Kwai,' starring William Holden and Alec Guinness, is headed for a Blu-ray release in the near future. Slightly off-topic, but does anyone else think it's weird that the same author who wrote Planet of the Apes also wrote this? I find it hard to think of two other so disimilar books by the same author.

Actually, the screenplay was written by Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson, but they were blacklisted at the time. So Boulle accepted the Oscar for Best Screenplay even though he didn't speak -- much less write -- English.

Foreman and Wilson's names were added to the Oscar in 1984.

Yes, but the original book was written by Boulle, five years before the film. Same as in Planet of the Apes, where he wrote the book, and it was later turned in a film - he didn't write the screenplay there either.
