Northbear,
where are you located, and did WVNY return yet, i observed the same phenom that after our transition to digital, WVNY in particular is weaker, previously one of my most stable channels
northbear 2011-09-01, 04:44 PM balm: i live pincourt, 8bay+cm7777. when the bad weather (cold, rain), i get good result in wvny. In nice weather, clear or hot, i miss it. I think it's related to the density of air.
northbear, you mentioned since digital transition, wvny is gone, do i understand correctly
johnvan 2011-09-01, 06:57 PM I just started picking WNVY with a 4221HD. It's far from stable but it's there.
Maybe I'll buy a VHF antenna. I'm in Kirkland.
northbear 2011-09-01, 07:43 PM balm: WNVY(22-1) is working for me now. in the morning, i missed it. In recently, it often miss on-air (signal=0). Since more analog signals gone, the receiving condition change for me, it becomes unstable.
There are 2 analog channels alive.
channel 8, cfcf (ctv?).
channel 29 (french).
2.1 is still not stable! Oh, Canada.
downbeat 2011-09-01, 07:52 PM Channel 8 is a CJOH translator in Cornwall, not related to CFCF.
musifo 2011-09-01, 08:51 PM Since todayn with the digital transition,, I do receive tva, ctv, cbc, tq and the american digital channel but - do not reiceive radio-canada at all. I do not understand why I am getting all the others. Do they have their transmitter on top of mont royal. I was receiving their analog channel 2 very well. Can you help. thanks..

northbear 2011-09-02, 08:05 AM last night 5-6pm, WVNY was effected by sunset (I think the density of air or F-layer changes quickly, it cause the signal is reflected.). There are some broken picture or sound lost.
after 7pm, WVNY (22.1) works fine (I watch pre-season of NFL), signal strength reaches 75/100, no broken pixel happened.
So far, it recover like before.
All other US stations are quite good, 3.1, 5.1, 33.1, 44.1, 57.1 over 85/100.
Canadian stations 2.1 68/100(no watchable), 6.1 82/100, 12.1 82/100, 17.1 72/100. I wonder we live in canada, why we pickup us signals much more better than that of canada?!
I still cannot get global 15.1. someone has news about it?
Panache70 2011-09-02, 09:18 AM So far, I would call this initiative a major fail.
From Ile Perrot, I cannot get TVA, CTV and V as it stands now.
I used to get CTV perfectly all summer, and now nothing.
There are stories in the news that many senior citizen homes are riddled with complaints because certain channels like TVA and CTV are not coming in strong enough to get a signal.
Also, it would seem that stores are running out of digital decoders...
Is there any hope for CTV, TVA and V to boost their signal soon or change the location of their transmitter to a higher (better) location?
dorthensensens 2011-09-02, 10:55 AM @panache70, do you have an antenna that can pick up VHF 12 signals as cfcf had moved to that frequency for digital?
I'm getting wvny much better than before where as I would always get pixelated video and now I get much better video with only occasional pixelization.
I don't get 35.1 from Pierrefonds which is too bad but I am able to get civm 17.1 without issue. I m hoping that RC 2.1 will come in as strongly as cbc 6.1 hen it moves to the main tower.

Typical VHF Nightmare. Unfortunate that IC/CRTC and urban Canadian broadcasters didn't learn from all the complaints received by WHDH Boston, WABC New York, WLS Chicago, and most importantly WPVI Philadelphia with regards to indoor reception of VHF channels, even with the right antenna.
Do you have a link for the story about seniors' homes and CFTM/CFCF?

@dorthensensens: I was picking up CFCF perfect 90%-95% last week with cheap 2$ antenna from dollar store. Than a few days ago... nothing. So you are saying I need to swap indoor antenna that handles VHF 12 signals? Any suggestions (make/model)?
Too bad, I was very happy that I was able to get SRC, CBC, TELEQUEBEC, GLOBAL and CTV for only 2$. But now, with no CTV this is a dealbreaker.
Is it the same issue for TVA 10 ? VHF?
dorthensensens 2011-09-02, 11:50 AM @panache70, last week cfcf was broadcasting from the temporary frequency of UHF 51. That's probably why it worked. Its now on VHF 12 and TVA is VHF 10. Stupid, I know, as my understanding was that all digital channels were supposed to be on UHF.
Some large UHF antenna can pick up VHF albeit poorly. I don;t have any suggestions for make and model as I made my own roof mounted antenna using the instructions provided in these forums (DBGH) and made it so that it also gets VHF channels with good reception.

downbeat 2011-09-02, 01:22 PM No, there are DTV allocations all across the TV spectrum.
It's just UHF tends to be preferred for urban settings.
vasiler 2011-09-02, 03:00 PM Panache70, in order to get your OTA channels you'll have to invest a little bit more in your antenna than a dollar store one.
I am in notre dame and the only ones I'm not getting are V 35.1 and Metro14 49.1
The rest are crystal clear, Canadian and US channels alike (21 Channels in total).
Martinus 2011-09-02, 06:22 PM Hi there,
After having read a lot of posts on this thread, I decided to go to Motrak and purchase a CM4221HD today.
I installed it in the attic, pointing straight at Mt. Mansfield.
I get : CBS, NBC, NBC Weather, CBC, TVA, CTV, GLobal and Télé-Québec really great. I mean even better than Videotron.
My question is, why don't I get PBS, FOX and the likes from Mt. Mansfield if I can get CBS AND NBC?
On that topic, why can't I get a signal from SRC if I get one from CBC? And what about V?
I currently don't have a preamp and my cable isn't split; however I'm running about 50 feet of it between antenna and TV.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Martin
@Martinus
Make sure you have your CM4221HD aimed squarely at Mount-Mansfield, use your HDTV's signal meter that you are catching 3.1 and 5.1 at its best possible signal strength and then do a rescan to see if can see any PSID for 44.1 even though you might not get a signal lock, if that is the case you will need a drop amp.
Martinus 2011-09-02, 07:16 PM My antenna might be a few degrees off (east) of Mount Mansfield.
What I don't understand is why I get NBC and CBS, but not PBS and FOX. I take for granted that ABC will be a crap shoot anyway.
An amp is not the answer to my reception issue where I get CBC, but not SRC.
Sorry to come out as a noob, but what is a "drop" amp vs. a pre-amp or straight and simple amp?
ogorek 2011-09-02, 11:14 PM Here in Vaudreuil my post transition results are:
Radio Canada 2.1 - 0%
CBC 6.1 - 40%
TVA 10.1 - 0%
CTV 12.1 - 30%
Global 15.1- 30%
Tele Quebec 17.1 - 100%
V 35.1 - 0%
Metro 49 - 0%
All American channels are coming in between 30 - 80% with 0% for WVNY.
Radio Canada 2.1 used to come and go at 1 bar (10%) but post transition it is 0% all the time.
The post transition results of Montreal stations are very disappointing. Even if antenna is only for UHF, having it 25 feet above ground and being so close to Montreal should give very strong signal for CTV, TVA, and V, as it did in analog.
Why invest so much money in equipment and antenna redesign and at the end not be able to serve the same viewers as before the transition. Hopefully advertisers will take note, because there ads are reaching much smaller market.
