Hello, I've been playing around with a GE Futura antenna for the past few weeks in Pointe-Claire (Lakeshore Hospital region). It's mounted indoors by clamping on to the top of a bookshelf in my second floor den. Once I found a sweet spot I was able to get all the Montreal analogs and the following digitals consistently:

3.1 3.2 / 5.1 5.2 / 12.1 / 17.1 / 33.1 33.2 33.3 33.4 / 44.1 44.2 / 57.1 57.2 57.3

By far the least reliable is 57, the other American stations are at about 3-4 bars. I get 12 and 17 at around 7-8 bars

Honestly, not bad for an antenna the size of a double DVD case...

Truly amazing results from an indoor antenna. The reasoned you get weaker reception on 57 is that the transmitter is not located on Mount Mansfield. If you would optimize the reception of US channels 57 would also come in at about 8 bars but you would loose Montreal stations.
How is the reception of Montreal analogs a specially 2, 6, 35, 46?

If you want to learn more about that antenna here's a thread in the Antenna Research & Development forum: GE Futura Digital HDTV Antenna (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=117594&highlight=futura)

They often get returned to the store, but in your case they seem to work well.

Hi ogorek,

the analogs do come in but not very well ... I find 46 (Global) comes in the clearest. CBC 6 is pretty hazy to watch. Overall, I found it was not a good antenna for the Montreal analog signals which could explain Stampeder's comment about the high return rate. Shouldn't be an issue once the DTV transition is done and then hopefully ABC will come in too.

ONE NOTE: The antenna is VERY finicky to orient. The slightest adjustment can mean a drop of 3-4 bars. This may be another reason why some people return it ... so patience is required to find a good setup for your particular situation. Once I found my orientation it's been reliable ever since without tweaking.

My setup: antenna is mounted horizontally, the face of the paddle is facing the US, the base towards Mount Royal. I found my reception improved when I gave the antenna a slight 30 degree rotation (twist) but honestly it could vary from location to location... The antenna base is mounted on a wood board and clamped to a tall bookcase, it is almost touching the ceiling of my second floor TV room.

Once the snow and ice are gone I will try it outside and maybe in NDG as well

I do live in Pointe-Claire, close to the LakeShore Hospital, Hymus x Stillview.

I'm on the 9th floor of a building facing southest, I can see the Montroyal, Lake St Louis and the Olympic Stadium tower from my Window.

I have 4 bay Antenna Facing south, I can get all US HD channels except Abc

I already tried the GE canadian tire amplier, but didn't changed anything.

I'm moving to Vaudreuil in July, I hope that I can still get all channels...

nice UHF antenna, BTW, that's why you don't catch ABC, which is on channel 13 VHF
How is channels 7-9-and 11 from Sherbrooke ? snowy ?

Marcelo in Vaudreuil you will pickup same channels, but you will need two antennas, one pointing to US and one to Montreal. Now your picking up all the channels from one antenna from 9th floor, here the tallest building has two to three floors. Even with a mast it will not go up to 9th floor. For best results you will need two antennas. By the time you move we might have all digital channels from Montreal. Maybe for a second antenna it would be wise to get VHF/UHF antenna and pointed to US to also get ABC.

Hi Marcelo, what signal strengths are you getting on the US and two digital Mount Royal channels?

I lost 17.1 telequebec a couple of day ago
Now it comes back with fox44.
I cannot understand the reason.
I live in pincourt.
So far I get 22.1(abc) quite stable.

Northbear how did you manage to get WVNY. Are you using CM7777 amp and do you see big difference with it? With antenna pointing only to US what is your signal with tele-quebec and ctv?

ogorek:

I have CM7777, yet I don't think it will inpove your receiving result. A good antenna is more important than that of pre-amplifer.
Before I bought cm7777, I can get WVNY also, but it not stable. \
After I bought it, I tried to adjust the direction of antenna for CTV, but I cannot get it, fortuntely I get relatively good to WVNY.
I regert to buy CM7777.
I use 2 bay antenna, one bay towards US and other toward my neighbor's house. I get WVNY but telequebec become unstable.
This morning I get Telequebec but I lost WVNY, tonight I lost telequebec and get WVNY.

Good, strong reception (80%+) of SRC 2.1 and CBC 6.1 digital stations with an indoor antenna here in Pointe-Claire. The program info and guide is still a bit empty on 6.1, but 2.1 seems to have their house in order.

I think though there may be a problem with the transmitter as when I was watching game 7 last night my TV showed the Bruins winning instead of the Habs? Anyone else have this problem?

Receiving Tele-Quebec, SRC, CBC and CTV in Ile Perrot using a Sony Bravia and a 4$ dollar store indoor antenna.

Signal is solid for all 4 channels... anywhere from 70 to 92 signal strength.

I know it was posted here that Global should be going live in August .. is it the same for TVA and V ?

I am not getting those channels so I assume they are not live yet.

Panache70,

TVA are waiting September 1st to go digital so be patient.

For V they are transmiting since a while in digital but their antenna is on Sherbrooke street next to Lafontaine Park and they want to keep it there. The Mont-Royal is between you and their antenna so you can't catch them like lot of viewer in the west side of Montreal.

GH10n3. Built with what you have around (copper wire 10AWG is ok). Plus add a UHF/VHF signal booster. I used a GE distribution amp (20$ at Canadian tire.) It's not the best, but if you find out that it doesn't enhance your situation, you can always return it to the store.

I live in Rigaud and I have slightly less power on most of the station. You won't get TQS and might have to wait until sept 1st before getting SRC. For CFCF I can't say.
