Just out of curiosity, your main pole (the green part) is it metallic ? It looks like a green fence pole, which could be a good idea.

And for WVNY, you could try a small VHF 13 antenna installed on top (or on the side of the mast) with a Uhf-Vhf-Splitter-Joiner (UVSJ), or connect your PR-8800 to the UHF port of the CM-7777 and the VHF antenna to the VHF port, insuring that you've set the internal switch of the pre-amp to split instead of combine for the signal.

It is metallic, although not sure if it's a fence pole, just an old painted steel pole I think. It's in the ground to answer Panache's question, which does provide some grounding, but the installer added a seperate grounding rod two feet into the ground coupled to the pole for extra safety.

As for WVNY, I've got my eyes on the C5, but can't justify spending the cash just to get ABC. On the other hand I could go with a Yagi, but personally I don't like the idea a some 10 foot corner reflector popping out of my house - aesthetically speaking. I sometimes think about swapping out the winegard with a cm4228 and see how much of a difference it makes, but still weighing my options.

VHF yagis don't use corner reflectors -- just a straight single element reflector.
UHF yagis have corner reflectors.

I'm probably getting my terms mixed up then, but was referring to the antennacraft Y10-7-13. Great price, just too damn big for me! :)

Vasiler, wow all channels from the attic?

I would love to see that set-up.

Any pics?

I live at about the same level as you in ND Ile Perrot... just the other side of the park and daycare at the end of Virginie Roy (Rivelaine Area).

If you get it all, should be the same for me...

I love the fact that your set-up is inside.

May I ask where you purchased your equipment?

Panache70,

I've got all my gear from the Motrak store on Grand boulevard.

I started actually with a Lava 2605 antenna, which is installed on top of my house. The only problem with this antenna is that you cannot get ABC.
When I got the cm4228HD, I tried it first on my deck. I was eager to see how it works when I got home from the store. Without any amplif, I got all the US channels. I was impressed. And I was thinking, if it works from my deck, I should try it first from the attic. I had to work a little bit to find the good position, but it works great now. There is nothing special with the setup. I used a short pole that I had in the backyard and some plastic ties to secure it in the attic.
Because of the orientation to get the US channels, the analog Canadian channels are not working very well. And for them I'm using the Lava. And I have a switch right next to the TV to switch inputs.

With the CM from the attic I'm getting Tele-Quebec, too, so I'm thinking that after the digital switch in 2011 I won't need the lava from the house and I'll remove it then.

Nice.

I just read that the CM 4228 HD is 4 feet by 3 feet... How the hell did you get it in your attic? Do the panels fold? I don't think the opening to my attic is 3 feet wide...

So you installed the CM 4228 HD in your attic on a short mast that is bolted to one of the beams? I guess I could use an old satellite dish mast... That's if I can get the CM 4228 HD into my attic in the first place.

Does this guy on Grand Boulevard give you some type of delay to return the antenna and get a refund? I would hate to get it to find out it does not work... allthough your experience gives me hope.

It fits trough the opening, barely, but it fits. At least in my house.
I don’t know their return policy, I decided to risk and I was lucky, I didn’t have to return it.
Anyway, the reviews were good for the antenna so I took my chance. Fortunately, it worked for me.
This is the story with OTA. There is a chance to waste some money. But it’s better than wasting money on Bell or Videotron.

I suggest that you try a cardboard of the approximate size (4' x 3' x 10") which could give you an idea of the size of the beast and if it fits.

Hi Panache70

I’m getting all the US channels, including ABC, with a CM 4228HD installed in the attic and a GE amplifier in the house. The antenna was 100CAD , the amplify. 20CAD.

Is ABC stable for you, or does it cut out sometimes?
What strength are you getting it at?

If it's that good maybe I really should swap my winegard for the cm.

Also meant to ask, are you using the 4228 or 4228HD, and if the 4228HD did you perform the hardware hack?

ABC is stable. My LG has only poor, normal and strong for signal, and the signal is at normal for ABC and FOX, strong for CBS, NBC, PBS , VPT and TQS.

It's 4228HD, no need for the hack in my case.

Hey all, been itching to get WVNY as my Winegard HD8800 just won't grab it.

I was considering maybe switching it out for a CM4228HD, but not sure if that's the best route to take.
Ideally I'd love to get the C5, but it's a bit pricey.

So question is, would the Y5-7-13 be strong enough from my location?
I'm really not interrested in the longer Y10-7-13 so hoping the Y5-7-13 is enough.

Here's my tvfool:

The Y5-7-13 might be fgood enough, as channel 12 is at bout 70-80 degrees away from WVNY, so you should be able to gget a good null on it, as well as on channel 13 from Trois Rivieres. If you do get one, play around with the exact direction. The nulls on these antennas tend to be much sharper than the peak main lobe -- by aiming the antenna a few degrees away from the exact direction for WVNY, you may only lose a dB or 2 of gain, but you could get 10 or 20 dB more of null towards CFCF and CKTM, which will help you a lot more than losing 2 dB of gain (since you already have 20 dB more than you need.)

Ok thanks tvlurker. Still contemplating which route I want to take.

Guess I'll see in the coming weeks.

Just installed a new winegard AP8275 pre amp to my DBGH antenna. Whow... What a difference. I now get ALL the Mt.Mansfield channels, CBS,NBC,FOX,PBS, and ABC. All clear. ABC comes in just enough, only occasional pixilation. Even get PBS 57. Since installing the pre filter, I was able to remove all my distribution amps. I had a 2nd small antenna pointing at Mt.Royal, but it was interfering with ABC. Threw out the 2nd antenna and all the USA signals went up. And as added bonus, all the analogue signals from Mt.Royal come in even better than before. The DBGH acts like a omnidirectional antenna for analogue signals.
I am in DDO, so there is hope for those who want to watch ABC in the West Island.

keychaine. I don't have a photo. I will wait until it stops raining and then take a few snapshots and attach the images. I made the antenna using the designs from this site. Made it out of 1/2" PVC, copper wire and chicken wire screening. Cost about $50 total supplies. The winegard preamp cost more than the antenna. Regards.

Hi all,

I've just bought a 8-bay UHF antenna and have it mounted ~25ft high, trying like mad to pull in CBMT from Montreal. According to the WIKI for that CBC station, they're tower is on Mt-Royal, but then I see that people are still posting about people being "out-of-luck 'til 2011" in the west island/off-island areas.

I can't get the slightest signal from them. Can someone confirm wether or not the move to Mt-Royal is done, or is still on hold 'til next year?

Thanks, and Go Habs Go! :D

The Mt-Royal move has not happened yet. You can read about it and discuss it in this thread:

Since you're in St-Lazare, swing your antenna towards Ottawa. You might be able to pick up CBOT-DT 4.1 (UHF 25)
