roger1818 2011-01-07, 04:15 PM I have a strange problem. When I watch CBS or FOX I experiment drops of signal when a car passes my house. My antenna is not even pointing to the street. It is more or less pointing parallel to the street.
What type of antenna do you have and what is its elevation?

WCAX and WPTZ both perfectly clear as usual with my setup here in the Laurentians.

Smog...How's your Fox 44?
flawless.
the only thing missing is 57.x but the 4228 is too directional to get ABC22 (VHF13) AND PBS57 at the same time without rotor.
edit : even the kid's TV using a non-amplified CM4221 (1980 vintage) pick fox44 without problem.
P.S I don't care if the signal is 50 or 99 as long as I get a reliable channel.
poncho@home 2011-01-24, 06:58 PM I guess I am very fortunate because i receive all digital channels in the area including ABC.
My setup CM 4221 and yagi 10y13 with a CM 7777 preamp
in fact I get everything except pbs57 unless I point the CM4228 to it. then again, I don't care much as I have PBS33
for my situation, MtMansfield is in straight line behind and higher than MtRoyal :)
Gordono911 2011-01-24, 08:30 PM Hey guys,
Been doing OTA for over 25 years now, same old amps and ants except for a 15 dB pre-amp added on VHF ant to get a better ABC. Get all USA channels at 100% except for ABC (50 to 60 %)which I sometimes losse in afternoon in the summer time. As for MTL channels, reception varies but good lock in winter. Strange thing is CBC usualy better than SRC which is higher powered than CBC.
flawless.

I climbed up the tower to move the CM4228 straight to PBS57. (60 feet tower with 16 feet unsupported over the roof ridge)
I still have all channels (including ABC22) but as reported by other members, I got a very low signal on Fox44. pbs57 was there but not strong enough to leave the antenna pointed to it and risk loosing FOX44 during the good shows. (I could live without ABC now that LOST is gone to heaven and they keep thinking we want to watch reality shows but can't afford to let FOX44 fade away.)
Yuprules 2011-02-01, 11:11 AM The new CTV HD channel is on 51, shouldn't interfere with Fox odd!
I also am having trouble getting Fox, so much for U.S. super bowl commercials. Guess I'll have to watch it in hd on CTV with the lame Canadian commercials.
toy187 2011-04-16, 09:25 PM I don't really get it. Might not help that I'm a newbie and just started reading/learning about this OTA stuff a few weeks ago though. I'm getting CBFT-DT flawlessly with 50% signal strength and > 90% signal quality while CBMT-DT is at 70 % signal strength but signal quality is around 6% and am not getting a picture at all. Picture on CBMT-DT was fine this afternoon though.
tvlurker 2011-04-17, 12:34 AM I don't really get it.
You're getting the temporary transmitters for CBFT and CBMT that were set up on the roof of Mason du Radio Canada years ago. People on the other side of the Mountain cannot get them. They're waiting for the new transmitters on Mount Royal to go in service.
downbeat 2011-04-17, 02:10 AM @toy187: Could you please provide us with a TV Fool report? You can find instruction in point #7 in the following post:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=125161
That way, we can get a better idea of the geographical lay of the land where you live.
Additionally, what sort of TV/tuner are you using? Signal strength and quality indicators are generally brand- or device-specific.
toy187 2011-04-17, 09:19 AM Thank you all for your help.
Here is my tvfool report:

am
As for equipment, I'm using a winegard hd 8800, with an Eagle Star pro 53-6200 tuner and a Winegard AP 8700 preamp.
For now the antennae is mounted in my attic, but I am hesitating whether to leave it there or put it up on the roof.
Yuprules 2011-04-18, 09:33 AM @toy187
If you put it on the roof, don't forget to ground it or static will build on it and fry your TV tuner.
CheeseHelmet 2011-06-05, 09:51 PM Here is my TV Fool report (http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d21933c5b6b0535).
At the moment I've got a Winegaurd HD-9032 antenna on a mast above a two story house. I've also got a HDP 269 pre-amp but it's not installed right now.
Reception isn't that great tonight, the only US channel I'm getting is 57, I'm missing 3, 5, 33, and 44...
@CheeseHelmet
Looks like your antenna is pointing point blank at Lyons Mountain to get 57, you should be able to catch 3, 5, 33 and maybe 44 if you move your antenna several degrees to the center between Mount-Mansfield and Lyons Mountain.
CheeseHelmet 2011-06-06, 02:01 PM I'm pretty sure I'm pointing it in the proper direction, if I move the antenna more south 57 comes in even better.
It should be pointing right about 163 degrees from magnetic north, I went out last night with a compass and had someone else rotate the antenna :)
The weird thing is that the signal came back around 22h20 at about 60%. Before that the signal was very unstable and never reached more than 40%. I'm wondering if it would be worth it to go hook-up that pre-amp...
Damn my fear of heights.
Lavalwest 2011-06-16, 01:05 PM I am using an interior Philips SDV6122/27 antenna upstairs and I am getting almost all the US digital channels (CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS33 and PBS57) except ABC13. Strangely, the local Canadian channels are less consistent with channels 2 and 6 much better than 12 and 17.
I used to have a hard time getting Fox44 but for some reason it comes in very well in the last week. Before that, I found Fox's signal better at night and in the morning, but it tended to fade during the day. I am going to set up an outside antenna for downstairs and the basement, and I certainly hope it works as well as my cheap ($13) Philips inside antenna.
gabwey 2011-08-05, 05:16 PM Hi,
First good job Stampeder and the others the forum is awesome!
I am a rookie, I had cable television only for a couple of years about 10 years ago. I was perfectly satisfied with my cheap rabbit ears and my 27" CRT until the CRTC decided to remove the analog channels. Anyways, I did not want to pay for a decoder alone so I opted to upgrade my TV. I now have a LCD TV and I wish to upgrade my reception, since the reception with my rabbit ears is really bad. I mainly want to have the main montreal channels, but if I can get the US channel for not much money I would be happy.
I read the forum and I just want to double check if I got everything right.
My choice would be a CM 4228HD (since it seems that pretty much everybody has this antenna) mounted on a satellite dish on the roof of my house. The last owner left it there so I will salvage the cable and the mount. I was wondering if the other antenna proposed in the antenna chart would do a better job than the CM 4228HD. I have also seen a couple of people having two antennas (the second one being 10Y13 or something like that). Would I need two antennas also?
Also, how do I know if I will need the preamplifier CM 7777?
I am also intrigued by how you managed to obtain % for each channel. Would I be able to have these on my TV or do I need a special tuner?
Here is my TVfool (http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d3e4755d57bd713) report for my location (center of laval, vimont).
Thanks for your help!
ota2335 2011-08-06, 11:36 AM Hi gabwey
I live in ste-rose, Laval and I have a 20 feets tower with a 10 feets mast on which I have a CM4228HD plus a CM7777 and I get all locals stations plus USA all Vermont and Plattsburg stations except ABC 22.1 So I recommand you this type of equipment.
About how to obtain % for each channel on your LCD TV you don't need a special tuner because normally every Digital TV tuner have a feature like that; go on the menu and try to find setting about signal power or recption and you'll have it.
Sorry for my english because I'm a french canadian.
