sack2003 2007-09-27, 12:26 PM Hi..
I live in Laval West and I want to receive the HD locals (NBC, CBS, Fox, ABC) from Plattsburgh and Burlington using my DirecTV HD tuner. Which off air antenna will do the best job? Any help or info is much appreciated.

Get a Channel Master 4221 and combine it with Wade 5Y13S.
You could get a cm-4228 but I don't think you need it.
sack2003 2007-09-29, 04:30 AM Hi Kro,
Would the CM 4221 and Wade 5Y13S work in the attic from Laval west?
Thanks.

I think CM 4221 will do great and the 5Y13S will be OK expect a signal of 70% for ABC (VHF 13) and around 80-100% for all the other's, if you also have the following:
RG6 Cable
Good connector/Connection (I've redone all mine it made a good difference.)
A good Pre-amp. (I have a CM-778 Don't get one to powerfull because of Tele Quebec UHF 17 is to strong)
And finnaly a good Tuner.
Take a look in your attic, is there alluminum? Is the outside of the house cover with alluminum?
sack2003 2007-10-01, 04:31 PM Hi Kro,
My house outside is in stone (i.e no aluminum). My cable is RG-6 that will connect the antenna. I will use the DirecTV HD receiver tuner. Do I really need the preamp (i.e CM778)?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you will have good result without a pre-amp.
DirecTV HD receiver
Is this the HR10-250 HD/DVR?
WatchmaN 2007-10-02, 05:21 AM I'm I the only one able to get a lock(4 to 5 bars on 10) on ABC these day's?:D I'm asking people who never got it before like me I wonder if the boosted the power oof the transmitter.

Hi Kro,
Is this the HR10-250 HD/DVR?
I have an H20-600 DirecTV receiver.
Which is the best direction or best signal I should point the antenna to catch the US locals?

I think the tropo is helping...I'm not sure since I've change my antenna for a 10Y13s and I get about 90% signal since then (Is it the antenna or the tropo or both?).

Use google earth and the file you can download from tvfool.com. But basically it's south south east. Play a round with it. If you have a pre-amp you will most likely have to put it almost south (Because Tele quebec). You can also tilt it slightly. (Have someone check the signal meter on fox DT when you have the best result then that's probably the best location.).
hemmi 2007-10-05, 09:11 PM Hello all
Originally I was going for a Winegard Square Shooter and at the last moment, following suggestions in the forum, I purchased a DB4 from TigerDirect. I received the antenna yesterday...and here are my comments.
Live in Laval, Fabreville, between the 13 and 15. I have a Westi with integrated tuner.
I started by placing the antenna in my living room a few feet above the TV on top of my wall unit. It was pointing south but was quite straight
-SRC,CBC and a few local analog channels clear
-WCAX and WPTZ scanned but with a lot of pixelization
-WFFF scanned but no signal
-no PBS
I then placed the antenna in one of our bedrooms, which faces south, and I set it on a book case facing out towards the window, with a slight angle towards the sky...results
-SRC,CBC,WCAX,WPTZ,PBS,WFFF all scanned and with great quality.
-TQS,TeleQuebec,Global very acceptable
-TVA,CTV slightly less acceptable but viewable if necessary
-ABC snowy, but normal i assume since they broadcast in the high VHF
Hope this info helps anyone undecided. Tonight I will try the antenna in my attic, before putting it outside on a J-mount
Thank you all for all your posts...that guided me in my choice

hemmi 2007-10-07, 08:03 PM As promised an update on the DB4 in the attic.
I'm getting the same channels as before when the antenna wa sin the bedroom facing towards the window. At occasion I lose the signal but it comes back. I don't know if this is happening because of the attic or simply my distance from the US.
Correct me if I'm wrong but an amplifier will not make a difference?
stampeder 2007-10-07, 10:32 PM A preamp might make a difference, so hopefully if it doesn't you can return it.
mr_raider 2007-10-07, 10:34 PM How big is that thing? Does it actually fit in the bedroom?
WVNY-DT shouldn't be be snowy. Are you referring to the analog or digital station?
stampeder 2007-10-07, 10:47 PM The Terrestrial Digital DB4 is roughly the same size as the Delhi 4BT-1483 and Channel Master 4221, or one side of a CM4228.
hemmi 2007-10-08, 02:12 PM It's 29"high by 19" wide.
As far as WVNY, I'm referring to the analog channel, I have never scanned the DT channel.
Correct me if I'm wrong but an amplifier will not make a difference?
From my own experience (CM-4221 in the attic) a Pre-amp does a difference, but get one that has no to much gain on UHF. CM-7778 or AP8700.
hemmi 2007-10-10, 08:41 AM Thank Kro,
Is there any place in particular that you would purchase either of the pre-amp's
Thank you again

I bought mine online at Sensuz (It's canadian). But now with the strong canadian $ I would try in to find it in the US if you can find someone to ship using USPS.
hemmi 2007-10-13, 09:12 PM Thank you again for your reply,
I checked out the Sensuz site, I will probably be ordering the Pre-Amp from them in the coming days...however due to some logistics issues with my DB4 antenna in the attic, I installed it this morning outside on the side of my house. I'm having a hard time locking WFFF....What should be my alignment, complete S or S-E and should I give it an upper incline or keep it straight?
Thanks
