wm_cheng: I've read there's a known issue with HDMI audio on this box. Have you tried the optical output?

Argh! YES and Yes!

It's all coax (some installer prefer coax for some reason) - but I have an old coax that runs from the basement to the 3rd floor that they re-used which I am suspecting could be the problem.

Can I still use HDMI for video and Optical at the same time for the audio portion - I don't see a menu setting where I can tell it to output audio via optical but video via HDMI. Do I have to use component for video and optical for audio to get around this sound issue?

I ran a HPNA test from the router to the STBs that may indicate a coax problem with one of my STBs (assuming its the upstairs one). It indicates that the per: line of the results needs to equal 0 - one of my boxes don't (don't really know what per: means, but it may indicate a coax wiring problem).

HPNA Test results:
00:26:82:fb:a7:02-->00:25:f1:b4:92:14: pkts: 1000/1000 per: 0.00e+00 snr 39.69db, rate: 112Mbps 16/7 Rx power: -7.77 dBm tx_npkts 1000
and
00:26:82:fb:a7:02-->00:25:f1:b4:8b:89: pkts: 1000/860 per: 1.40e-01 snr 37.88db, rate: 112Mbps 16/7 Rx power: -9.33 dBm tx_npkts 1000

It's the second entry (per: 1.40e-01) that troubles me - its supposed to be 0 - but don't really know what that means.

Looking at pics of the Guide for FibeTV and comparing it to Telus' Optik TV Guide, I much prefer Telus' version, with the channel list on the bottom, and the PiP in the upper left. The colours are also a bit more appealing, and I also like how they show the channel logo in the list, instead of some accronym like "BBCWNS" for BBC World News.

Still, any form of Mediaroom is a massive improvement over Rogers slow, out-dated, and (depending on what colours you select for it) rather visually offensive Guide.

My understanding is that you can run both HDMI for video of optical for audio, without having to change any settings. Let me know if it worked for you, as I feel I will soon have the same issue.

The technician came by last night (afterwork which I was surprised they could arrange) for another 1.5hrs. He replaced the only coax cable that was re-used existing. All is well now. The entire system is Coax (except for the line coming into the VDSL modem). They ran new coax to all the boxes from the modem. Unfortunately I now have a coax wire on the outside of my house from the basement to the 3rd floor and coax wire stapled to my baseboard from the 3rd floor entry point around my bedroom to the opposite wall where the TV is - not the tidiest install that I was hoping for.

Streaming is fine and the PQ for HD is surperb. I still wish there was a way to let SD 480i signals pass through the box to let something else do the upconversion after it. The UI is so much better than Rogers! Also that sound dropping out issue in the basement PVR seems to have gone away for the time being, even though I did nothing - I find it hard to believe that could be solved by a better connection to the other STB. Its still HDMI audio to my receiver only.

Anyways, all is well now and I'll update my review once the TV season starts and I start to spend a little more time with it.

Major failure on Fibe TV in the Beaches today. I called up support and they said they are working on it - seems whatever happened, happened at the source. My VLAN for the video is down. Now just waiting for it to come back up.

It's down in my area as well (montreal). I only have access to very few channels. When I called Bell, there was a recorded message saying they were experiencing technical difficulties.

So far not too impressed :(
My installation was suppose to be today from 5pm - 9pm....
At 8:45pm, still no news from Bell... So i decided to call them... And they can't find the info if the tech will be there or not. The agent even ask me to call back tomorrow during the normal hours to make a follow-up...

Oh well... Just wasted an evening waiting for Bell to prove me wrong.... i thought they change.... i guess not.

Just talked this am with Bell Fibe TV, they seems to have a lot of problem with install and activation yesturday... But like i said to the agent, after receiving 2 emails and 2 voice mail to confirm my installation date, why not a simple call to let me know they wont come....

So just got a call from Bell again, the installation part II is tonight.... We will see :)

Just got my Fibe TV and Fibe 7 installed....
They got here around 5pm and left around 8pm.... They did reinstall the a cable from the pole, the box and all wires inside :) 2 tech for the job :)

they did a great job.... They installed all the PVR HD and also the router.....

My only problem is now.....
My computer on Wifi is working fine... but if i try to connect wifi with my iPad or iPhone, when i go online, i always get the Activation Modem page.... Weird...

So now i guess i have 1 month to get use to it and play with all the channel.

About the TMN on demand or Super Ecran on demand ? Is it all free if you subscribe to TMN or SE ??

The pictures seems to be better than normal HD (like illico)... but yes i did notice the SD channel seems not great.... but SD is SD LOL...

My Internet speed is amazing....

More observations later....

My iPod works fine on my Cellpipe's WiFi router (Alcatel Lucent 7130). Everything else including the HDTV/Wii/BluRay WiFi connects fine to the CellPipe, though I've since installed a gigabit Ethernet switch behind the TV since.

Maybe go to your router's config page at http://192.168.2.1 and doublecheck settings. Be careful about tweaking the Cellpipe modem. Assuming all your WiFi devices are modern, go to the WiFi page at http://192.168.2.1 and use WPA2AES, and choose AES for the key, enter a good long secure password for the preshared key, and viola. Don't use Open or WEP, that's easy for someone off the street to crack. Make sure you're already able to connect to the Cellpipe over Ethernet cable, in case you screw up the WiFi settings.

Hey,

Just wanted to know if they 100% install all the network wires inside the home? Like I have a few computers running on wifi now, If i want them to completly install me new network cables will they do so? Did they run wires around your house?

I will have 3 tvs and each will be on the bell fibe tv. Im getting the same pakage as you.

Also did you provide the wires? routers? hdmi cables? switches? hubs? etc...

Thanks

p.s anything I should i look out for when installation is happening? anything to ask?

@Mark
Thanks for the input.... Everything was fine... i guess Bell just force the activation on their side and ask me to reboot the modem... and VOILA :)

I have to say i'm pretty impress with the customer service when you dial at the Fibe number... NOT the 310-BELL... Even the techs who did the installation told me never call the 310-bell but the Fibe direct line number... And they are right.... :)

So far, i'm pretty happy with it.. but of course this play much with the Fibe TV yet...

More info later tonight i guess :)

@Asifnana
I can't tell you if they would do this or that... But i can tell you what they did for me...
They did install a new cable from the pole (outside) to my appartement. They did install a new box outside.... After they did run a cable from the box to the inside (and and install a new phone jack / box for DSL etc...).
For me, it's was easy.... no phone line (just a dry loop).

They did connect the router and configure my iMac wifi. they also installed the PVR HD with component cables... they don't give you HDMI... I did have one, so we did plug it HDMI.

I know for sure... if you have more than 1 TV, they will use Coax cable for them.

Someone from Bell just called to tell me about the outage on september 21st. She apologized and said Bell is doing whatever they can to make sure it doesn't happen again. In the meantime, she applied a 10$ credit to my account. Sweet!

Really... I though they said they would network it using network cables ?....
