GeoStar 2011-04-16, 04:10 PM I can't belive it but , I found the problems I had with my antenna this winter and replaced it with a modded cm4228 . This was coupled to a kitztek kv-100 1 db amp and a 8 port distribution philips amp .
WelI I was really happy to have a full 4 bars on all the local channels in digital including 17, 20, and 66 .
Now this morning in my basement I installed my kitztek vt-200 with .4 db noise , yah yah I thought no big deal eh?
Well Iplayed with the rotator on the roof and aimed it south , k I have all the local channels minus 6 , the hd4228 don't do 6 so I need a new tenna .
Then I put the channel selector on 18 -- and got 18-1 18-2 and 18-3 full color full sound 3 bars in the middle of a rain storm .
Next I pointed the selector at 57/38 and got 57-1 57-2 57-3
alll the pbs channels !! I can't belive it ! 6 new channels all pbs with a bunch more to be tested in good weather!! I'm extactic with my chimnney mounted antenna --yes
A single hd4228 modded with steren baluns and a kitztec-200 amp gives me a total of 12 channels in digital in Ottawa  or is it only tropo ?

flavoie 2011-04-18, 10:58 AM GeoStar, could you repost your TVFool report ?
Better yet, set it as your Home Page under your profile.
If you wondering what's next, it would be Global from CF and WNYF (CBS/Fox) but this would all depend on your TVFool to see if it's even worth trying.
stampeder 2011-04-25, 02:45 PM xilbus's roof installation in Aylmer is posted here for the benefit of all our members: OTA Mounts, Towers, Rigging Hardware (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=29559)
We'll watch for his reception results posted here in this thread though. :)

roger1818 2011-04-25, 03:15 PM xilbus, surprising you receive global on 2 and 6 but not CBC analog on 4. I am also surprised you receive 60, 65 and 66.1 as the antenna you have is designed to only work up to 698 MHz and should absolutely kill anything above channel 52.
What is 61 BTW? I have never heard of it and your TVFool report doesn't show it.
xilbus 2011-04-25, 03:34 PM 61 is too scrambled i do see at the top right a few letters but maybe later tonight ill be able to figure it out
60 is cfmt and 65 my tv says city but at the bottom right it says ABC
please see picture here

jrmclean 2011-04-25, 03:54 PM xilbus, I for one am very interested in hearing how that "HD Stacker" does. I've read Denny's test results comparing to some of the big combo antennas and don't know what to make of it.
xilbus 2011-04-25, 03:56 PM OHHHHH turned the antenna towards pbs

xilbus 2011-04-25, 04:06 PM jrmclean i was going to order the huge CH 15 foot antenna but i fell on Dennys website and saw that his was twice the size. and he told me that he worked really hard on it with some computer software and he has Winegard cut the antennas to his request.
Up till now im getting 3 pbs channels that everyone told me including Denny that it would be impossible. So im totally satisfied with the results up till now hopefully ill be able to dx with this.
jrmclean 2011-04-25, 04:13 PM that's great xilbus! It is very satisfying to see good results...
I tried to find your tvfool report but didn't see it anywhere....could you post the link again?
roger1818 2011-04-25, 04:58 PM xilbus, those are all sub-channels of WNPI and I am not too surprised you are able to receive them. Impressive would be reliable reception of WWNY or WNYF from your location.
I am still quite skeptical about the HD Stacker as it seems to me like the two antennas are too close together.
As for the comparisons with with big combo antennas, most of the bulk of the those antennas are for VHF-LO (channels 2-6) which he readily admits this antenna isn't designed to receive. This is not the only antenna designed to receive VHF-HI and UHF so it is an apples and oranges comparison.
It is true he does also get a bit of performance gain on UHF by tuning it for channels 14-51, but the gain on 52-69 will be pathetic. Fortunately that won't be a problem come September.
roger1818 2011-04-25, 05:05 PM Up till now im getting 3 pbs channels that everyone told me including Denny that it would be impossible.
Who told you they would be impossible to receive? Looking at your TVFool report (http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d8d174265d317f4) WNPI (18.1, 18.2 and 18.3 are all sub-channels of it) has a NM of -5.8 dB which isn't too difficult to receive with a good UHF antenna. You should also be able to receive WCFE if you point your antenna towards it.
xilbus 2011-04-25, 05:14 PM Hi roger1818,
ill try after dinner to to get WWNY or WNYF. Denny was telling me that i may not get pbs and the store owner of OTA Canada in Ottawa , he was saying that once you cross the river into quebec that pbs is really hard to get. I saw a while back a coverage map of pbs and the signall does drop right before the river on the ottawa side.
roger1818 2011-04-25, 05:40 PM xilbus, the thing about rules of thumbs is there are exceptions. That is why I much prefer using TVFool than rules of thumb.
There is nothing magical about the Ottawa river that prevents signals from traveling across it. Those close to the river often have poor elevation. Those further from the river have good elevation but are that much further from the transmitter. If you have good elevation yet not too far away from the transmitter then you are in a much better situation.
I am glad you are happy with your results, I just don't think there is anything truly amazing about the HD Stacker and probably wouldn't recommend it as my first pick.
xilbus 2011-04-25, 08:47 PM Hey Roger,
i got WWNY or WNYF 28.1 and 28.2
28.1 is fox and 28.2 is abc :-))))))
i had to turn the antenna from the pbs stations , still trying to figure out the rotor. I lost temporarely the remote so the buttons on the control units goes up by 2 or 3
stampeder 2011-04-26, 02:25 AM Up till now im getting 3 pbs channels that everyone told me including Denny that it would be impossibleThe only place to get proper advice about OTA in Canada is here at this site.
roger1818 2011-04-26, 10:02 AM i got WWNY or WNYF 28.1 and 28.2
28.1 is fox and 28.2 is abc :-))))))
Glad to hear you received WNYF. The next question is if this is something you receive reliably or just when the conditions are right.
28.2 should be CBS not ABC though.
xilbus 2011-04-26, 05:14 PM Hey Roger,
all 3 pbs channels are comming in strong right now with rain in aylmer but i cant seem to get the fox or cbs channel at this time. And i had to go and install the antenna right before a full week of overcast and rain lol.
are you picking up Fox even with rain ?
roger1818 2011-04-27, 10:53 AM My current antenna was bought before I knew any better and isn't capable of receiving any American broadcasts. I hope to upgrade it but am struggling with the WAF (Wife Approval Factor) since she is happy with the status quo. ;)
xilbus 2011-04-29, 11:28 PM hey guys,
my antenna is pointing to watertown and im picking up ckws from kingston.
