jrmclean, Glad to hear you are happy with your antenna. It should ensure reliable reception post transition. I will be curious to see how well different antennas work on 6 post transition.

That all depends on how reliable you think some online simulations of the relative frequency response of these two models are. If I recall correctly, Ken Nist's HDTV primer website shows a 2 or 3 dB advantage at channel 25 for the 4228 over the 3671. Of course, an ultra low-noise amp may help more than 2 or 3 dB. But I've seen other websites that give different relative numbers for different models of antenna, so your mileage may vary.

Also, you'll need the 3671 for your VHF stations on 2, 5, 9, and 13 (and eventually, 8, when 2 (probably) switches to 8 within 5 years).

Thanks, tvlurker. I take your point about the lower channels.

This chart shows the WG 8800 as one of the best. And it's available from Amazon.ca. So it the their preamp.

I'll be interested to know how you merge the signal for your various setups with the channel 6 antennas...

In our bulk order of 5Y6S antennas we also ordered some Channel 6 Join-Tennas (CM0576) from the Channel Master store. This will pass all channels except channel 6 through one port and only channel 6 on the other. Since I am a belt and braces kind of guy, I also plan to put an HLSJ on the "other" antenna input to filter out all VHF-LO (and FM).

flavoie, like roger1818 mentioned, I'm using the join-tenna #6....so my setup goes something like this:

Channel 6 antenna into the CH6 input on join-tenna
YA-1713 antenna into the "all other channels" input on the join-tenna;

The output of the join-tenna (marked TV) goes to the VHF input on the CM7777 pre-amp where I'm combining the VHF signals with the UHF signals from my 3rd antenna.

Everything works fine. I still have to optimize my UHF antenna aiming. As soon as that's done, I'll post an updated reception report from Bridlewood/Kanata. Gotta wait for better weather before I go climbing again...

here's my updated list of channels I'm receiving...I do have to rotate the antenna towards Watertown if I want to get those ones...otherwise, I leave the antenna pointed towards the South Colton tower.

9.1 CBOFT CBC
16.1 WPBS
16.2 WPBS

24 CICO TVO
43 CHRO A channel

OK, now here are some very strange things I've seen scanned in on the tuner.
Strange Channels - some have strong signal but no picture; some just enough signal for the tuner to detect...

7.2 (RF7) WWNY-SD (only seen during tropo)
21.3 (RF21)
21.4 (RF21)

Lucky you! In Beaverbrook there's no way I can get the US stations. My best one on tvfool is CBS which is -21dB NM.

I posted this in the main Ottawa forum, should probably have been posted here instead:

I'm in Kanata (Beaverbrook) with a Winegard MS-1000 mounted on the chimney and a CM7778 pre-amp.

I get 6.1 at about 61% strength with 97% quality.

By comparison, I get 4.1, 9.1 and 20.1 at around 82% and 100% quality;
I get 17.1 at around 58% strength with varying quality (usually 100% but sometimes gets pixellated and drops);
I get 27.1 at around 43% strength with 97%-100% quality

Overall I have to say I'm pretty pleased to be getting Global, with all the stuff I've read on here today. The MS-1000 is a surprisingly good VHF antenna; I might keep it for VHF and upgrade to a bowtie antenna for the UHF channels. I'm waiting to see how the transition shakes down first, since I've got both towers at 110 degrees from each other (and so would have to catch CF from the back).

TVO's coming in strong this morning, 82% signal strength (same as CBOT, SBOFT and Sun) and looks beautiful. Great job TVO!

@jrmclean now that you've got the same channels as me, time for you to send a request to Tivo to update the guide so mine will be updated too ;) They keep ignoring my requests

Odd reception at my place. I receive Global DT on my Hauppauge capture card with rabbit ears & WinTV displays it as: 1462 - 4.1 CIII-DT, but on my TV (ancient Sony rear projection) with CM D2A tuner & CM 4228HD I can't tune it in. I did a rescan & tuned in TVO-DT but no Global. Could this be down to Global's low power output & the sensitivity of the D2A tuner?

Maple Leaf, it is because the 4228hd is not good for channel 6. Rabbit ears are actually better at these VHF frequencies.

I'll be in touch with Tivo soon...figure I may wait till end of the month and get them to update as much as possible in one support call.

Just walked over to my neighbour which I helped with a setup (see post #312) and he is picking both global 6.1 and TVO 24.1 with his new flat screen. :D Considering the antenna is pointing just south of HC I was kind of surprised that he gets 6.1.

I'm in Bridlewood with my CM 4221 pointing at HC and Global is coming in fine...

FYI, I live in northern Kanata and I have an analog TV on the first floor, with standard rabbit ears antenna beside the TV, a digital to analog converter box, and with the antenna placed just right (facing about north east) and the ears at 90 degrees to each other (with one at horizontal). I can get 4.1, 9.1, 17.1, 20.1 and 24.1. I have a digital TV in the basement with its own antenna on the first floor facing a similar, but not same, direction as the other antenna, and the ears at about 135 degrees to each other (with one near horizontal), and antenna has about 20 feet of coax to the TV with the coaxial cable not tight (else I lose signal), and am able to get channels, 4.1, 6.1, 9.1, 20.1, and 24.1. So on one TV I can get 17.1 but not 6.1 and vice versa for the other TV. The placement of the antennas is very very sensitive in order to get either of 6.1 or 17.1, but not sensitive at all for the other digital stations. Hope this info helps others in their setup.

Okay so I did a channel scan today, I'm in carp and get 4.1, 9.1, 17.1, 20.1 and whatever the omni is. Anyways, I get 24.1 now but my TV is just a black screen at full signal. My mythtv says the channel is encrypted???

My TV cannot get 6.1 but mythtv gets a partial lock so maybe I need a booster or less splits as I do split the cable 3 times.

TVO changed the Video and Audio ID. It is messed up right now, see the Ottawa station status thread.
