lima20, keep in mind that if you turn off that embedded FM trap in your CM7777 you may end up seeing something similar to backpackster which looks like preamp overload due to strong FM signals.

I am just going to leave things as they are for now

I'm in Blackburn Hamlet, North-West of backpackster and just West of lima20. I, too get WNPI pretty much all the time. I also get WCFE most of the time (what's up with 57-3?!?)

I have given up on WWNY and WWTI, as they show up a few days a year. I had better luck when WWNY was on channel 35. I once got WCAX on channel 53, but now with all the channel conflicts between Ottawa and Mount Mansfield transmitters, we likely won't see much coming from there.

I'm keeping an eye for WNYF. It would be nice to get WPTZ next year. We might see WETK too.

Hi gmd ..... I thought you were moving to higher ground

I must be in a sweet spot or I am higher in Navan. Last night, for example, I was getting 19 digital channels

All Locals plus
PBS's 16.1,16.2,16.3,18.1,18.2,18.3,57.1,57.2,57.3
CBS,FOX 7.1, 7.2
ABC,CW 50.1,50.2

Only thing I didn't get was 28.1. I only get it once a month.

Don't care about the 16's as it is an exact copy of the 18's and harder to receive. Not sure what the deal is with 57.3 but it has potential.. I guess...

I am wondering reception will be like after tropo season...

I must be somewhere between you two. I'm around Navan Rd and Orleans blvd, and drooling at your reception results. I really should buy an outdoor antenna soon...

Just checking in from K4B. Hooked a small Phillips indoor antenna to my Bell 9242, and am getting CBC French and English HD, and City HD!

Wouldn't it be great if the Bell boxes had the guide?

Definitely. Really, the only thing that I need it for is watching Senators games in HD. You know, those nights when CBC MTL has the habs, and CBC TOR has the Laughs, and the Sens gets shoved to 208. Hopefully, some of those games get produced in HD...

The antenna is pointing somewhere between S-E and S-S-E. About an hour ago, I got a glimpse of WWNY, but also WKTV... Wow! We could have an NBC! No more signal from those two, but I see a weak signal for WWTI and WPBS. I would need to climb to help things out... not going to happen!

Speaking of signal, I did see a signal on 35-1 (Watertown) earlier, and now 47-1, 19-1 and 44-1 (Syracuse). Too bad the antenna's pointing towards WCFE... Will CBOFT-DT, CJOH and OMNI-TV get turned off tonight? :)

Edit: WWTI is coming in (11:33), I see a signal on 29 again (WKTV Utica) and WWNY is back (11:38)

Yup Good tropo night.

In addition to Watertown 7 & 50

I am also getting

2.1 (real 29) WKTV-HD Utica NBC
2.2 (real 29) WKTVDT2 CW
43.1 (real 44) WNYS-DT Syracuse MyTV

My antenna is always pointed towards Watertown. I think I will install a rotor in a couple of weeks.

WHEC 10.1 (real 10) is also trying to appear, just cant lock it in.
I also see Syracuse fox 19.1 is on the edge. gmd did it lock in for you?

No other station locked. I would have had to turn it to point South.

At 7:00 this morning, only WWNY was coming in.

Last night I was also getting the feeds on 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3

Nice to see something new. Somehow I think that these feeds will come in like 50.1, etc...about 50% of the time for me (including last night).

I will check it again today.

So my tower install guy came back again today to finish up my dish install for 97W on the 33" dish, we manage to get a strength of 91% and quality of 78%

We also realized that my antenna on a channel master rotor is not turning, which will explain why I haven't been able to lock onto other stations. He is going to come back with a new motor to try it out

Hi,

Is Winegard HD7698P a good antenna for Ottawa area. if yes, where i can buy one of them.

The problem with the Winegard HD7698P is that it won't receive VHF-LO (2-6) and Global is currently scheduled to remain on channel 6. It also may be overkill for the locals, but may help receiving the American stations. Where in Ottawa are you?

As for where you can buy one, check out the OTA: Ontario Parts, Sales, Service, Installers (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=1140509#post1140509) thread.

I was pondering a similar question. What is the best simple general antenna solution for the Ottawa area after the transition?

It depends where Global really ends up, but if it stays on 6, we are stuck requiring VHF-lo (Global), VHF-hi (CTV) and UHF (the rest). Since OMNI is moving down we will probably require from a 2-51 solution.

Not everyone wants 4 antennas on their roof like me. Do you think the best low price options for local reception would be something like a CM3018 or CM3020?

A two antenna solution (pairing a vhf antenna like an antennacraft CS600 or Antennas Direct V15, with a CM4221) may be a better bet. VHF pointed to camp fortune, UHF on rotor or midway between manotick and CF. However this may complicate some.

Just curious what people think.

It depends where Global really ends up,

That really is the million dollar question.

but if it stays on 6, we are stuck requiring VHF-lo (Global), VHF-hi (CTV) and UHF (the rest).

Don't forget CBOFT. It will likely end up reverting to channel 9, so it will also need VHF-HI.

Since OMNI is moving down we will probably require from a 2-51 solution.

That is a given. No one will be allowed to use channels 52-69 post transition.

Do you think the best low price options for local reception would be something like a CM3018 or CM3020?

Those would likely be overkill for central Ottawa, as there likely isn't any hope of receiving American stations (except maybe most parts of Orleans, but they should really have their own thread). If Global stays on 6, I think a CM3014 or CM3016 would be good enough as a single antenna solution, though a rotor would likely be necessary.

A two antenna solution (pairing a vhf antenna like an antennacraft CS600 or Antennas Direct V15, with a CM4221) may be a better bet. VHF pointed to camp fortune, UHF on rotor or midway between manotick and CF. However this may complicate some.

I agree a two antenna solution would be much a better option, though, as you say, it might be a bit too complicated (or bulky) for some. The choice of UHF antenna really depends on your exact location. For many a reflectorless antenna would be best, but a CM4221 is a good start.

Thanks for the reply and hyperlink (OTA: Ontario Parts, Sales, Service, Installers thread).
Where in Ottawa? AltaVista / Elmvale Acres.
What do you mean by '….but may help receiving the American stations…' ? I was hoping I will get them.
Right now, I do have an outdoor antenna (4 bay) and I am able to get 6 HD channels. The others (non HD) channels (except couple of them) are not clear. I thought by using Winegard HD7698P, I will solve both problems, 1) I will get more HD channels (American stations), 2) and will get better quality local/non-local VHF/UHF channels.
