Talk to your landlord. If there are satellite dishes on the building they set a precedent. There are a number of companies making flat coax with 75 ohm connectors on each end to fit in windows - if you don't want to (or can't) drill through the frame.

As far as the antenna goes, get yours in front of a south facing window if you have one. As far as size goes, the CM 4221HD is only 32" H x 24" W ( twice what your single bay is). You could try at least 2 of the 4221HD hardware hacks on yours: remove the plastic covers (carefully) on the whiskers and replace the whiskers with longer ones (with coat hangers or the like - fold a 19" piece into a 'V' & spread the ends from 2" to 5" apart - testing the reception in each case) if it isn't riveted. I don't think anyone's tried this but these mods/hacks can be reversed. I also don't know if these will work either - just a suggestion. I've never seen the 4220 so I don't know if the balun can be flipped like 4221 or needs to be.

The Zenith Silver Sensor (and clones) could be a good alternative for local stations. If your antenna shop has a good return policy, just get one to try indoors & try it in different places around your apartment - the closer to the ceiling the better. Have you tried moving around the 4220? I don't know how familiar you are with antennas, but you shouldn't hold the antenna in position because the body effects reception. Tie-wrap it to a broom or hockey stick or floor standing lamp or something.... You can hold the stick - just keep the antenna at arms length.

At the end of the day, you may just have to live with fact that CHCH & City Tv will be problem stations.

Cheers!

For the first time in several weeks I have got a good signal from 18.1 and 18.2 and 18.3 PBS.
The signal strength on a sony is only 55 with snr of 15 but there is no disruption of signal. I an in center town.
On a rescan I see that 34 analog has been replaced by 34.1 digital.

@Maple Leaf

Thanks for the feedback.

I asked awhile ago and the property management company does not permit antennas of any sort to be mounted on the building. I asked if I could mount mine on the roof (not visible from the street, which seems to be their primary concern) and they still said no. Perhaps if I pester them a bit more... :)

I tried the ZSS clone and it worked no better than the cheap RCA amplified antenna I bought from Radio Shack. Then again, out of sheer frustration that it wouldn't bring in City TV, I quickly returned it to Radio Shack without experimenting much with it. Perhaps I should have given it a bit more time?

Looks like Global is transmitting a standard definition feed. My TV maps it to 41.2.

Does the same on my Eyetv hybrid, but 6.2 on my TV.

TSReader indeed shows 6.1 CIII-HD main channel with TSID 17196 and 41.2 CIII-SD subchannel with TSID 17321. The TSID and subchannel are obviously from CIII Toronto channel 41. I'll post this in the Global PSIP problems thread.

I just switched my setup from a roof mounted CM4221HD + AP2800 over to a CM4228HD and CM7777 on a tripod 10' above the ground. I am now getting all local channels...except Global.

I am still dealing with a line of sight issue in the Glebe:

Unfortunately moving from one edge to the other edge of my little property doesn't give enough variance in the path to overcome it. Regardless, I am able to now get reception in cold weather.:)

My rescan picked up 41-2, an SD version of Global/CIII....something in the works?

I have a few extra antennas now (HBU22, CM4221HD, SS-2000) if anyone is interested...

Here's a link to the line of sight blockage to Herberts Corners noted above. It is about 5 blocks away from my home:

millergd, neither the 4221hd or 4228hd are very good for channel 6 to start with. Global is within reach if you want to add another antenna and hook it to your setup. 2 examples, 1- an channel 6 cut yagi, an FM yagi or VHF Low antenna outside coupled with your 4228hd using a HLSJ before coming into the UHF/Combined input of the 7777. 2- a VHF Hi/Low coupled with your 4228hd using the VHF + UHF inputs of your 7777 and changing the 7777 to separates inside the unit.

From all these options, the channel 6 cut yagi would give you the best gain for the smallest size (if you can find one). Just a bit smaller but not as good for gain for a similar size would be the FM yagi. Otherwise, both a VHF Low and VHF Low/Hi will be significantly larger because they need to catch channels 2-5 which require longer element.

EDIT: I also forgot that you may want to check if turning off any devices generating Elentromagnetic noise like PCs, subwoofers, amplifiers,... makes your Global reception better. Turning off my subwoofer makes the channel go from marginal to OK. (yes, go figure, the signal is really low here)

My current setup allows me to get all the locals (except global), 6 PBS channels, CBS and fox. All from my attic setup of home made antennas and a silver sensor for CJOH and CBOFT. However, I'm puzzled with the problem my receiver is having with TVO (signal always at 100%): at nights when almost all local signals are at 100%, the receiver reboots everytime is tuned to TVO. Initially I thought signal overload, but I got the same response from the receiver when using much smaller (weaker) antenna without amp. This does not happen all the time, but frequent enough to be really annoying. Any thoughts?

On a rescan with a sony bravia 26 inch I did not pick up global on 41.x or on 6.2 but scanning on a 32 inch Toshiba I picked up 6.2 as well as existing 6.1
Checking tv fool I found no explanation of 41.1 or 6.2
Where is 6.2 situated in frequency allocation ?
It would be nice to avoid a VHF low antenna for the winter months outside.

Virtual channels 6.1, 6.2, and 41.x are actually channel 6 VHF in Ottawa.

mmm somehow 6.x gives me a better picture than 41.x ?

wonder why ? is it filtered thru the cable system and

re-graded in some fashion ?

6.1 is an HD stream.
6.2 or 41.1 is an SD stream.

millergd, someone else can better answer this question. From the looks of it, this other C series looks like a channel cut yagi as well. I wouldn't be surprised if both Wade and Delhi had their own line of channel cut yagi antennas at some point and both companies merged. But i'll let somebody that actually knows, reply.

I checked with Wade and the 5Y6S is unquestionably discontinued, as are all their home use antennas. Their commercial C-51 Yagi is $590, a bit out of reach for OTA applications...:(

That is kind of what I figured since I knew that Wade/Delhi discontinued all of their residential antennas several years back (a real shame as they are a well built Canadian made antenna), but I didn't know anything about the C series of antennas (if they were residential antennas that had also been discontinued or if they were commercial antennas).

Hello,
I live in CFB Uplands (Uplands/Hunt Club, behind Royal Oak) just got an indoor Terk HDTVa Antenna Pro, trying to get tv with a Sony Bravia HDTV but nothing so far. Tried different orientation with multiple rescans. Any idea what the problem(s) could be?
