Perfect, thanks.

I have an MS-1000 that's doing a great job with VHF, and an okay job with UHF. I was thinking of complementing it with a bowtie for the UHF channels, but due to the physical design of the MS-1000 it has to remain at the top of the mast.

I'm getting the faintest bit of a signal on RF44 this morning which I deduce to be coming from CF since I only get it aiming directly at CF and zip otherwise. Confirmed by #OttawaOTA. I wonder what it could be? only about 20% and does not lock. Definitely 8VSB carrier detected by TV.

I'm getting the faintest bit of a signal on RF44 this morningCould be TVO from Cloyne?

Maybe the RF44 signal was WNYS-TV from Syracuse

4.1 (25) strength 74 - solid
9.1 (22) strength 64 - inconsistent
13.1 (13) strength 64 - poor (very choppy)
14.1 (20) strength 68 - solid
24.1 (24) strength 74 - solid
42.1 (42) strength 82 - solid
43.1 (43) strength 74 - somewhat choppy (don't understand - at this strength it should be solid)
60.1 (27) strength 74 - solid
65.1 (17) strength 67 - fairly choppy

This is in Centretown with a Radio Shack omni antenna sitting on the TV stand on the ground floor.

I have a DBGH antenna in attic with CM7778, near Island Park/Westboro,

At 10am today, the signals on my TV are:

4.1 100%
6-1 83%
9.1 95%
13-1 100%
14-1 70% (OMNI)
24-1 100%
42-1 69% but seems pretty good.
43-1 60% (had pixelization/cut outs every 5 min or so...) could be better.
46-1 92%
65-1 66%

66-1 and 27-1 are black.

I wish I could get 43-1 better.... and all the herberts corners, but not bad for a home made antenna in the attic.

We'll see tomorrow...
Thanks!

I'm getting a terrible to non-existent signal for 13.1 with my Silver Sensor. I'm surprised because my reception of 6.1 is usually good. I was expecting VHF-HI would be superior to VHF-LOW with this antenna and CTV would be stronger than Global.

I get good reception of both these VHF channels when I connect a ribbon antenna I made from twin lead. The ribbon is 125 cm long which I believe I selected at the time for FM. Reception with the ribbon is much stronger when perpendicular to the signal.

The Silver Sensor has been pulling in the Camp Fortune UHF channels for years but is in a bad location for Herbert's Corners.

Over to the antenna design forum to look for something to combine these two antennas. As I expected the cable splitter I tried didn't work as a combiner.

Location: vicinity 416/417 junction

I wonder if CJOH 13 is at full power yet? I noticed when TVO 24 first came on, i had a bad signal for a couple days, but after that the signal improved considerably and has stayed that way.

my TVO signal never changed
has been between 70-79 since it launched

CTV is comming in at 99% and im in orleans
I dont think it will get better
make sure you have a vhf antenna

I'm getting a terrible to non-existent signal for 13.1 with my Silver Sensor.

I find that my unamplified Terk Sliver Sensor clone with rabbit ears does a pretty poor job on VHF. 6, 9, and 13 all come in better on an FM ribbon antenna than on the Terk's rabbit ears. (6 barely comes in at all on the Terk, and only in an impossible position at a 45 degree angle in the middle of the room!)

At 8 am wednesday 13.1 was coming in very clear.
the antenna is a CM 4221 HD UHF only which has been good on 13 analogue.
It is tempoarily mounted inside until things settle down.
The TV is a sony 32" and signal strength with a very poor picture at noon is
76 and SNR (db) is 16 while IF-agc% is 76 what ever that is.
errors are in the thousands now.
can anyone comment on those figures as to what levels are required etc.
Jim

You need a bit more than 15 dB of signal to noise ratio to decode an ATSC digital signal. At an SNR or 16, you're just on the edge.
The 76% AGC gain ifs the amount of total gain the Automatic Gain control is applying to the tuner's first amplifier. The 76 number is probably related to the proportion of good datapackets the tuner is seeing.

I would try an FM ribbon antenna or even rabbit ears and see if you have better luck indoor. Outdoors, the 4221 may be fine, if you have a good view of Camp Fortune.

Do you think it's even likely that I'll be able to pick up the HC stations from where I live with an indoor antenna?
You may have a chance at CHCH-DT on channel 22. Try it on Sept 1. According to your TVFool, it should be about 10 times more powerful at your location than the other HC stations.

tvlurker: Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm outta' luck with the other ones using an indoor antenna, eh?

OttawaGuy999, what floor are you on? I don't get great reception of HC stations with my Silver Sensor on the ground floor.

tvlurker: I'm located on the first floor but not at ground level. My antenna is placed on a speaker (bad place?) near a window, facing south-west, about 20 feet AGL.

jimlum, your signal levels don't mean much when compared to other tuners. Signals get better at night, so in your case you're right on the digital cliff where you don't quite have enough signal coming in to get a stable picture all day. The CTV signal is coming from CF, so if your 4221 is pointed at HC, I would suggest trying rabbit ears pointed at HC and merging both with a UVSJ. See if the rabbit ears get you better reception. Of course you can go bigger like the vip302sr but this is a cheap fix.

If the SNR reading of 16 is accurate, he is indeed right on the cliff.

Yes I am on the cliff edge with SNR at 16/17 and a heavily pixilated picture.
On the other hand Dr Phil is on so no loss. 13.1
Yes when I put a pair of RS rabit ears on the TV inside the SNR goes to 19/20 and thats without positioning th antenna for CF tower.
channel 6.1 is also back.
Its odd that 13 was ok (not good) with analogue last night and 13.1 was ok
at 8 am but by noon the CM 4221 HD was not up yo the job.
Thanks guys I had no idea what the SNR was for reception.
what model of device do I use to mix a pair of rabbit ears inside and a UHF antenna simultaneously ? (I dont want to guess)
I thought 13.1 had dropped its power level.
The antenna goes outside next week after the dust settles.

Interesting, I didn't know about the SNR either. I get 17 for global but don't get it, at night it was coming in very pixelated, so you probably really need 19 to be stable.
