Is the Delhi VIP-302SR considered good all around VHF antenna for attic mount? I ask as I wish to have something that covers Global as well as those that may arise in the future.
I have a 302 which was attic mounted but I decided to roof mount it to get 7.1, 7.2 and I get Global on the back side at 90%. Wish I would of left it in the attic until after Global went live to see if it would get a lock on it

Charettepa, I don't think I will have an issue as my CM will pull in 6.1 if I re-direct it toward CF instead of directing it to HC.

The backside of my CM is pulling 6.1 however its pixel hell.

Yroc based on your report the 302 will help a lot.
Pointed at CF of course

It looks too big to fit in the attic hole.

302 folds like an umbrella...

Reminder: vip302sr doesn't come with a balun, so get one if it's not provided separately.

Man I thought I bought the last VIP302SR back a year ago. According to my sources it was on the back shelf in storage @ the factory in Delhi. Upon arrival I had to scrap off the inches of dust (not kidding, like a clue in a murder mystery).
I was thinking, "man this thing must be crap". Boy I was wrong. My first VHF purchase will always be my baby. If you get the chance to get one, consider yourself lucky. Small but powerful

And thanks to your picture album, Panamark, I was able to see what it looked like before buying !

In doing my experimentation still trying to get Global DTV, I've noted that my TV wants to try and pick up 27-2, stays black but then switches to 27-1 OMNI TV instead. Does anyone know what 27-2 would be? is it a 480i version of OMNI? I remember I used to get 20-1 and 20-2 for SunTV and that was the difference.

Being in an apartment where I can't really have an exterior antenna is proving to make my Global DTV experiments rather discouraging too. All the rest of my DTV signals are very strong and even my analog ones are as well (except for kinda squiggly CJOH, but at least it's consistent). Gonna try some more mods but unless Global cranks their power, I don't see how a signal is gonna make it through the concrete and brick walls of my apartment building.

renegade73: I'll keep my fingers crossed. I tried 2 new antennas this weekend and none of them could bring in any of the HC stations.

I read that Omni 1, Omni 2 and CITY will all stay at 15 kW after the analog shutoff so I think my chances of ever receiving these stations are next to nil. I'm hoping I'll be at least able to receive CHCH and CTV Two once they switch to digital.

I wonder if an external tuner might help...

Purchased the VIP302sr today and installed it in the attic. Although I am getting a clear 6.1, it was very finicky.

When I mounted to 302 to the rafters, I lost the signal. After trying for 2 hours, I simply ended up having to leave it lay in the insulation. Among other things, during that 2 hours, I tried pointing it at CF thinking the front of the unit was the smaller part (no success). I could only get a signal with the large part pointing toward CF.

Note: Changing the direction of this unit once its in the attic is a huge pita.

In addition, when I tried changing the coax from a 3 foot length to a 10 foot length to reach my CM7777, I lost the signal. I also found that I would get signals when I loosened the coax from tight to semi tight.

Hope this info can help others (i.e Flavoie).

Would the 302 fit through a 2'x3' attic door?

Yes, although you need a bit of room to open it up once you get it in.

Mike the 302 may or may not work for you in an attic. Yroc has the 4228 in the attic and gets 6 when pointed at CF. Based on this alone it was easier to figure out the 302 would work better.

You don't have the same point of reference since I think your 4228 is on the roof.

Would I think a 302 on the roof is sufficient when fed in your 7777 ? Yes. In the attic ? I don't know. It sure does not work for me at the moment.

Yroc, you're making me requestion my setup. I do have the vip-302sr with the small end pointing to CF. But this setup was getting me a LOT better CTV than with my 4228hd on the roof, and a fair to good analog Global which was pretty inexistant with the 4288hd. Did you test how the analogs are coming in now vs what you had with the 4228hd ?

I have a universal swivel base mount screwed into one of the top trusses. From there, a mast comes down and my 302sr attaches using a u-bolt which I can then turn around, that is of course if i'm not stopped by any wood trusses in the way.

Panamark, if you're still around, could you confirm the 302sr antenna orientation ?

I was thinking of placing the 302 in the attic and running the feed to the cm7777 at the base of my cm4228 mast on the roof. The shortest line would be about 20' from there.

Worth a try?
